2 INTRODUCTION IF YOU WANT TO ESTABLISH A SUCCESSFUL business, run a major corporation, create your own fashion design firm, be a sports and entertainment executive, or create the next big thing in animation or gaming, the School of Business and Management is where you start your journey. Through its six academies, the award-winning School of Business and Management offers students a jump start to their dreams through career-oriented preparatory courses, dual-credit classes, Advance Placement courses, and networking and internship opportunities with industry partners in the Dallas area. SBM Offers n Advanced Placement courses as early as ninth grade n Certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist in ninth grade n Dual-credit courses starting in 10th grade (most students earn at least 18 hours by 12th grade) n One of the largest dual-credit programs in Dallas ISD magnet schools n Unique courses and networking opportunities n Off-campus college courses in Animation, Video Game Development, and Mobile Devices n On-site internet radio station n IC3 certifications n Quickbooks certification n Educational partnerships with companies such as Wells Fargo, Hunt Oil, PwC, and Wade College n Fashion modeling opportunities

3 THE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center serves an ethnically, culturally and linguistically diverse population of about 500 students. Its academically competitive environment offers a pre-collegiate education that prepares students for college and the workforce through innovative and progressive programs 95 percent of seniors enroll in colleges and universities upon graduation. Awards The School of Business and Management has received several awards and recognitions: n Blue Ribbon Award n Texas Business and Education Coalition Award n NCEA ACT Award n U.S. News & World Report top 500 schools in the nation n Newsweek Top 500 schools in the nation. 4 MARKETING Fashion Marketing If you picture yourself as a fashion designer, head of a design firm or a fashion entrepreneur, this is the academy for you. Students in the Fashion Marketing academy have direct access to fashion industry experts as mentors and trainers, including new and existing fashion entrepreneurs designers and retailers as well as college-level programs and organizations. The dual-credit program focuses on the business of fashion and provides an overview of: Fashion trends Global marketing Fashion concepts/ history Textiles Economic influences Fashion apparel design Trade associations Merchandising displays Retailing industry Fashion Marketing students have the opportunity to network with industry leaders by volunteering during the market season at the Dallas World Trade Center and at a national level. Students also have the opportunity to be part of Future Fashion Leaders of America, a pre-collegiate and industry-training organization that provides practical experiences for students. The extra-curricular program which is offered only at SBM in Dallas ISD functions as an incubator for students interested in the fashion industry.

5 Sports and Entertainment Marketing Do you want to be part of an exciting, progressive, and creative field of sports and entertainment marketing by producing advertisements, hosting internet radio shows, or working directly with professionals in the sports and entertainment fields? This academy will teach you the ins and outs of script writing, voice talent, production, advertising, public relations and management. This is a new program at the School of Businesses and Management that is uniquely designed for students interested in this field. It provides students with knowledge and skills in the areas of: Marketing Advertising sales Finance Communications Operations management Legal issues Public relations Media production Advertising production Emerging technologies MARKETING Research- and project-based instruction gives students handson experience that is enhanced by regular presentations from industry executives, agents, corporate managers, and other key members of the sports and entertainment arena.

6 BUSINESS Business Management and Administration Want to build a pathway to becoming the CEO of a major corporation, an effective entrepreneur or a star executive? This academy will prepare you for these challenges through courses that will help you develop business savvy and leadership skills: Management theory Administrative systems management Human resources management Small business operations Students can earn as many as 18 dual credit hours through such courses as: Principles of Management Small Business Operations and Management Human Resources Management Organizational Behavior When participating in this academy, students plan and manage all School of Business and Management senior events and learn how to be effective leaders even when not in formal leadership positions. The senior year capstone project involves small business development in an urban setting.

7 Accounting and Finance Are you good at numbers and figuring out budgets and financial plans? Then this academy is for you. No business can function without knowledgeable and accurate accounting practices. In this academy, you will learn to become a professional in the fields of accounting and finance. Students learn about personal finance and can earn dual credit in Money and Financial Markets and Principles of Accounting. Thanks to a partnership with Wells Fargo, students in this academy can get hands-on experience in banking through the school s onsite Wells Fargo branch, where any Townview Center student can establish a checking account with as little as $100 and a savings account with a minimum of $25. Banking students work with Wells Fargo mentors as account executives, tellers and other positions in the onsite branch. BUSINESS

8 TECHNOLOGY Digital Animation and Gaming Is your goal to work for Pixar Animation Studios or start your own animation studio? Do you want to create the next big video game? Learn how you can accomplish your goals in this uniquely designed academy in which students learn to use the latest tools and technology in the industry as well as fundamental principles of game and animation development all aligned with academic and workplace standards. During their junior and senior years, students in this new academy will be able to take free animation and gaming development courses at El Centro College. Students will become proficient in animation, game design, multimedia productions, and publishing. The senior capstone project includes game and animation conceptualization, design, development, production and implementation.

9 Information Technology Do you want to work in technology, Web design, PC maintenance, and other computer-related fields? Through a hands-on approach, the IT academy will prepare you to excel in the technologically advanced workplace. This academy offers: IC3 certification A+ certification Network+ certification Adobe CS6 ACA certification These industry certificates offer the students a better opportunity of finding a well-paying position in the IT industry either after graduation or while attending high school. They are also recognized by colleges. Our students can earn up to 24 dual-credit hours that can be applied to colleges. Our IT students are actively involved in SkillsUSA, a co-curricular organization in which they can compete nationally to test the skills and knowledge they have gained in the classroom. TECHNOLOGY

10 ABOUT School of Business and Management at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center Established in 1975 as a magnet school, the School of Business and Management is accredited by the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and holds membership in the College Board and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Student organizations available at the school include DECA, Skills USA, Business Professionals of America, Future Fashion Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and League of United Latin American Citizens. The school is organized in a rotating block schedule, where students take three 90-minute block classes and one 95-minute class every day. Block classes are either one semester or one year long.
