1 County Connections MAY Candy Fontz Proudly serving the communities of Brooklyn Park, Ferndale, Glen Burnie, Hanover, Harundale, Linthicum, Pumphrey and Severn Districts 1 & 2 HOW TO BUILD COMMUNITY Community and Constituent Services CFontz@aacounty.org Connect with County Executive Laura Neuman Like her on Facebook Follow her on While muddling around online a few years ago, I came across the picture shown above and it just clicked for me. It literally made me pause and read each item, providing me with a clear picture of what is needed to help us create and maintain the communities that we want. It s simple it takes action! I m not suggesting that each person don a super-hero cape or anything else too adventurous; simply get involved in one way or another. As warm weather fights to gain a foothold in our area, many community associations are finalizing plans for Community Yard Sales, Clean-Up Days and Community Appreciation Days. I encourage each of you to participate, when possible and get involved! Typically, these events are planned by a few volunteers but require participation from many in order to have an impact and to be successful. If you don t have the time or ability to help with the planning portion, do your best to participate in some way. These events help to promote a true sense of community. This is your opportunity to get to know your neighbors better and discuss items of mutual interest. You ve heard it before, this is the only world we have. Of course we might not be able to fix everything but we can certainly make improvements in our small portion of the world. What s stopping you? Let s work on this together!

The FY15 proposed budget focuses on continued improvement in the County s business practices, processes and services during the upcoming fiscal year. This is a fiscally conservative budget that represents my priorities to save taxpayers money, invest in public safety, maximize our reserve funds, put an end to years of structural debt, plan for our future, and improve service delivery and efficiencies throughout the County, said County Executive Neuman. It focuses on the progress we have made during the past 14 months and the work we still have ahead of us to modernize our government and improve the public s access to our services. 8 Lifeline 100 Century Ride and Community Health Fair at Kinder Farm Park (Sunday, October 19, 2014) Heritage Crest Senior Community Unveiled On a beautiful Saturday morning in April, a number of Anne Arundel County agencies and local non-profit leaders announced the first ever Anne Arundel Lifeline 100 Century Ride. In addition to the ride, the County will host the Making Health Happen Community Health Fair at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville on October 19. Both events are made possible through a partnership between the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation & Parks, nonprofit Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County ( BikeAAA ) and the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition. Anne Arundel County is proud to host the Lifeline 100 Century Ride. This first of its kind initiative emphasizes the health and economic benefits of safe bicycling in the County," stated County Executive Neuman. I would like to thank the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Department of Recreation & Parks and BikeAAA for partnering to make these events possible. It is through their dedication and cooperation we are making Anne Arundel County a better place to live and play in every day. Bike routes will wind throughout scenic Anne Arundel County including downtown Annapolis, the Severn River, southern Anne Arundel County, BWI/Marshall airport and the B&A Trail. Heritage Crest, a project of the Housing Commission of Anne Arundel County (HCAAC) and Pennrose Properties, officially opened on Thursday, April 24 at a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by state and local officials, residents, and representatives from the development team. The original Burwood Garden apartment complex was built in 1974 to help house Anne Arundel County s growing elderly population. Under the just-finished Phase I contract, four apartment buildings were torn down and replaced with the new energy-efficient fourstory wood frame building. It includes one- and twobedroom apartments, common spaces, and amenities that include a salon, fitness center, computer room, and library. Jon Korin, founding president of BikeAAA ( ), a new all-volunteer 501c3 dedicated to promoting safe cycling for recreation and transportation, provided details about the ride which includes north, south, east and west portions of the County. The ride will offer food/drink rest stops for cyclists. Proceeds from the ride will be donated to County non-profit organizations. The community is also invited to participate in a free allday Make Health Happen Community Health Fair at Kinder Farm Park with representatives from the Healthy Anne Arundel Coalition, local hospitals and public agencies.
