3 PMT Assembly EMI 9356KB PMT mounted to back plate, easily inserted into / removed from Fe shield. Upper two PMT rings secure the tube via spring-loaded rods. Lower ring for structural support to base. LED base socket spring rods HV in PMT dome extends into mirror box. PMT may be retracted into Fe shield by adjusting lower rod length. LED fixed to PMT ring for monitoring. HV: A capacitive splitter box is mounted externally to pick off AC signal. AC pile-up issues due to +HV operation not seen on test bench. HV grounded at supply. 3

4 Mechanical IIT production of PMT mounting parts well underway and scheduled for June completion (page 3). Heavy steel light boxes form part of magnetic shield (quad triplet nearby). PMT shields + light box sides do not shadow the PMT dome. but quad field map from Kevin T B << 1 PMTs so not a problem Box production under way at U of Iowa. Some small inaccuracies noticed in water-jet cuts on first steel shipment; decision made to proceed with box 1 nevertheless. Steel for box 2 will arrive next week. Aerogel compartments soon to be completed in UM shop (page 2). Decision made to produce flat 3-mm-thick back covers - small design change which also leaves a bit more room in the box for mirror adjustment and also third layer of aerogel if necessary. 4

5 Conical Mirrors Conical Mirror Design Change To expedite conical mirror production, each quadrant mirror was slumped in 2 pieces. With small lead time a 2nd iteration was not possible. front Mounting or fixture Mirror coating at Fermilab in June. Mirrors will be glued to a mounting ring and solidly attached to the PMT box sides independently on mount fixtures. 5

6 Mirror Assembly Assembled mirror array shows mistakes in the slumping mold: intersection of 4 cones not perfect mea culpa! (LMC) Overall dimensions are within tolerances. PMT ports have good shape. Gaps to be filled with reflector. Gaps to be filled with reflector. 6

10 Summary Aerogel: Aerogel has arrived in the US. Work on aerogel compartments and mirrors on schedule. Mechanical: Mechanical production proceeding well. 2nd-light-box schedule may slip due to steel delivery. Mirrors: Slumping of conical mirrors has gone well. Some deficiencies in the form have introduced mirror gaps, but recoverable. Coating should begin at Fermilab next week. Electronics: PMTs ready to ship (Trieste). Bases being tested should be ready in July. Support Stand: Support-stand design near completion. 10
