3 P r e fac e Ladies and Gentlemen, Our social, economic and political life is more complex, interdisciplinary and more interconnected than ever before. Rapid technical progress, global economic activity, transnational political units such as the European Union and transnational civic movements are both expression and catalyst of this trend. Professor Peter Voß is president of Quadriga University of Applied Sciences Berlin. He is a journalist, author and hosts his own tv programme on The key to manage complexity successfully is communication. Quadriga University of Applied Sciences Berlin has set itself the goal to educate executives in the field of communication. By setting this objective, Quadriga creates on one hand the standard for successfully managing complexity and on the other complies with the demand for greater transparency which today s discerning public requires from companies, associations and public bodies. Communication must at all times be considered a top management task. Today s executives must be able to translate corporate strategies into communicative actions. A mutual dialogue is indispensable for reconciling the interests of companies, associations and public authorities with their stakeholders interests and for entering into cooperation with one another. In addition to having an in-depth understanding of classic communication and public relations techniques, decision-makers need to be able to effortlessly utilise management competences and entrepreneurial know-how on an international level. The MBA Communication & Leadership programme enables communication managers to make well-founded decisions as head of communication departments. The programme s campus sites are situated in Berlin (Germany), London (UK), Brussels (Belgium) and Istanbul (Turkey). These settings underline the international focus of the programme. Internationally recognised degree The MBA Communication & Leadership is an economics degree programme with a specialisation in communication management. At its core are basic economics and management skills as well as planning, organisation and control of communication measures in all fields of communication management. Work and study All programmes at Quadriga University of Applied Sciences Berlin are offered on a part-time basis. The programme consists of lectures taught by renowned international lecturers as well as self-study, which plays a major role in the programme. The programme is primarily aimed at professionals who have already embarked on a career within communication departments but have mainly been involved in practical, operational functions and generally not yet in management functions or in an area requiring strategic coordination. The programme is aimed at applicants who want to boost their career and intend to take on a management function in communications, as well as individuals who intend to appropriately supplement their qualifications in the communication sector on the basis of their educational background. They receive an important evaluation of their skills, new perspectives, professional advice and knowledge. More than 50 mentors draw on their wealth of experience in their respective fields, and mentees are able to see how their mentor operates in his or her senior position. In order to support the success of their organisations, decision-makers need to possess competencies in public relations strategies and tactics, along with a broad range of management skills and knowledge of economic, social, and organisational processes. Quadriga s international MBA degree courses adhere to the European Guidelines for MBA courses as proposed by the European Quality Link (EQUAL), the association of national accreditation institutions. The content of the international MBA degree course follows the EQUAL criteria, which provides a strong focus on business topics, including macro-economic principles, finance, marketing and strategic foundations regarding business policy and strategy. The part-time study programme consists of teaching seminars and guided self-study periods. In alternation, they provide a basis to prepare, teach, revise and consolidate. Modules and thematic blocks are therefore often spread over several phases. Studying part-time requires a greater deal of personal effort than doing a full-time equivalent. The concept of guided self-study takes this into account: course materials such as text reader, set exercises, evaluated case studies and other documents provide strong support. The modules take place during different periods which are spread over 18 months. There is, however, ample time between the each module to prepare for the course, consolidate and revise.
