4 Healthcare Informatics Health informatics (also called health care informatics, healthcare informatics, medical informatics or biomedical informatics) is a discipline at the intersection of information science, computer science, and health care. It deals with the resources, devices, and methods required to optimize the acquisition, storage, retrieval, and use of information in health and biomedicine. Health informatics tools include not only computers but also clinical guidelines, formal medical terminologies, and information and communication systems. This support is accomplished through the use of information structures, information processes, and information technology.

6 HIT Learning Community of Practice A learning community of practice is designed to support the professional growth and learning needs of the HIT professional, across their career lifespan.

8 Right Profession, Right Time According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health information technicians and medical records professionals held 172,500 jobs in 2008 with 39 percent in hospitals; by 2018, a 20 percent growth is expected resulting in 207,600 jobs. Source: 8
