1 JOB OPPORTUNITY JOB TITLE: DEPARTMENT: POSITION DESCRIPTION: SALARY RANGE: QUALIFICATIONS: Fire Lieutenant Full-Time Fire Department Under general direction of the Fire Captain or Deputy Fire Chief, supervises the day-to-day activities of one or more Fire/EMS companies and participates in the planning, direction and coordination of fire company and/or program activities for Washington Township. Starting base salary is $73,875, with the ability to progress to $76,830, plus paramedic and education bonus. (Effective with the 7/1/15 contract). At the time of application, the applicant must have an Associate s Degree in Fire Science or related (or must complete this Associate s Degree in Fire Science or related field within two years from the time of appointment), and must have five years or more of full-time experience in fire suppression and emergency medical services. Applicant must possess and provide copies of the following required current certifications: (1) Firefighter II State of Ohio, (2) EMT- Paramedic State of Ohio, (3) Fire Safety Inspector Ohio, (4) Hazardous Materials Operation, (5) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider, (6) Valid American Heart CPR Healthcare Provider Card, and (7) NIMS IS-100, IS-200 and IS-700 training certificates. The position of Fire Lieutenant must have or obtain (within two months of appointment) a current standing order certificate under Montgomery County, Ohio protocols. This position is required to become a qualified Squad Leader and Driver/Operator with Washington Township Fire Department within the first six months of employment and an Ohio Fire or EMS Instructor within one year of hire date. Must have a certificate from CPAT or Kettering Sports Medicine dated 10/1/14 or newer and must be received by the second interview. Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver s license and remain insurable under the Township s vehicle insurance plan. Measure Candidate s vertical/overhead reach height to the inch from floor to heel of hand and weigh candidate, weight in lbs prior to application of weighted vest and air pack. 2. Enter measurements on Lift test form at indicated areas as well as lift requirement for shoulder to overhead lift indicated per reach height from Lift Force chart 35 Foot Extension Ladder. 3. Perform Non-material handling and Material handling testing with candidates wearing 29 lb. vest (simulating weight of turn out gear) with 25 lb. air pack for total added weight of 54 lbs. 4. Perform Frequent Material handling testing (No weighted vest or air pack worn due to specific standardized test requirements). 5. Test to maximum lift level but do not exceed test requirement settings greater than smallest weight increments allowed by test equipment used, (This does not include outcomes for resistance related tasks performed with momentum influence). 6. Activity tolerance / Endurance level: Rated during test activity performance by monitoring heart rate throughout testing. There are standardized tests that include criteria for pass/fail for American Medical Association standards for age related ratings of 85 percent heart rate, (max allowance). Comments: (i.e., problem solving, ability to follow directions, motor skills) are documented on test form which is sent to the above named (#7 and /or #8) individuals. Pass/ Fail: Candidate must pay the full $ prior to testing and pass all criteria requirements of test for test to be considered a Pass. If candidate is not able to pass all criteria, then test is considered a Failed test, (There is no reimbursement for failed test). Candidate can opt out of test at any time after any part of criteria is not met, or evaluator can decide to stop testing if evaluator determines that it is not safe for candidate to continue. If candidate does not opt out and evaluator determines it is safe to continue with test, candidate can choose the option of attempting to complete testing to determine areas that candidate will need to work on, if decision is made for re-test, per Washington Township Fire Department criteria (candidate must generally wait three months before attempting to retest). Ability to climb to the top of an aerial ladder and back down. Bends, crouches, stoops, crawls, stretches and otherwise maneuvers as necessary around numerous obstacles and tight spaces, as may be found in burning buildings or accident and emergency scenes, as well as training activities. Demonstrates the ability to off-load and maneuver 200 feet of 2 inch or 1 ¾ inch fire hose. Demonstrates the ability to maneuver, with assistance, 2 ½, 3 and 5 inch hose, as necessary. Raises a 24-foot extension ladder with help of one other person. Demonstrates the ability to drag 150 pounds while outfitted in full firefighting gear. Demonstrates the ability to carry, with assistance, a minimum of 150 pounds over a flat surface as wells as up or down an incline. Walks, runs, and jumps as needed to respond to emergency situations. Dresses in full firefighting gear within a designated time frame. Demonstrates the flexibility necessary to vertically step into a Fire, EMS or Rescue Vehicle while dressed full firefighting gear. Possess sufficient dexterity to successfully perform all standard and recognized paramedic functions. Possess sufficient visual acuity in order to function optimally in dense smoke and darkness. Hears instructions and commands while wearing protective head gear at fire and emergency scenes and trainings. Follows a fire hose back to its source by relying on sense of touch. Detects body movement, temperature and deformity through sense of touch. Balances on many surfaces as may be encountered in the course of Firefighting/EMS rescue operations and fire safety inspections. Performs any and all firefighting and/or EMS activities, including standing, in full firefighting gear, in all types of extreme weather conditions. Remains physically and mentally alert during prolonged periods of intense, sustained physical activity in difficult environments.
