2 FIDM by Night Evening Degree Programs FIDM has established an Evening Program in addition to the regular daytime schedule. This enables working students to earn FIDM degrees. > The Los Angeles campus offers degrees in Fashion Design, Interior Design, and Apparel Manufacturing Management. > The San Francisco campus also offers evening programs and degrees in Fashion Design. Each major can be completed in 2 1/2 years by following the schedule outlined by the Education Department. The evening curriculum has been designed to accommodate the time requirements of working students. Associate of Arts and Professional Designation degrees are offered. Evening Programs start twice a year at the Los Angeles and San Francisco campuses (spring and fall quarter). All services for students are available within evening hours with some also available on Saturdays. Career Development & Placement Center Financial Services Student Advisement Research & Resource Center Computer Labs Workrooms Student Lounge All evening classes are taught by industry professionals. Course curriculum is the same as the traditional day program. A Special Programs Administrator and Coordinator are available to assist students in the evening hours on the Los Angeles and San Francisco campus. Various student activities and guest speakers are scheduled during evening hours. 33

3 Exchange Programs Creapole, Ecole De Creation Management Fashion Design and Interior Design students who are fluent in French may apply for an exchange program at this school in Paris. Istituto Marangoni Fashion Design students who are fluent in Italian may apply for specialized study programs conducted in Milan, Italy. Accademia KOEFIA Fashion Design students who are fluent in Italian may apply for to study at this small school in Rome, Italy. London College of Printing Visual Communications and Graphic Design students may apply for a specialized programs in London, England. London College Of Fashion Fashion Design, Product Development and Merchandise Marketing students may apply for to attend this college in London, England. Istituto Europeo di Design Fashion, Interior and Graphic Design students who are fluent in Italian or Spanish may apply for specialized study programs at their locations in Milan, Rome or Turin, Italy, or Madrid, Spain. 4 Study Tours FIDM offers several study tours designed to complement the specialized education provided in the classroom. Each tour explores major centers of fashion, retail, and interior design. Students tour each city, visit historical sites and museums. In addition, appointments are scheduled with representatives of the industries of importance to FIDM students. FIDM instructors and administrators lead each program. Students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be in good financial standing to enroll. The cost for each tour is in addition to regular tuition charges. Students may earn general studies academic credit for study tours by completing directed studies under faculty supervision. Students requesting academic credit for the study tour must see their Academic Counselor to make the necessary arrangements. The European Study Tour This tour has visited London, Paris, Milan, Venice, Florence, and Rome. Students have the opportunity to meet professionals in the fields they are studying. Appointments are scheduled to reflect the interests of each group of participants. The New York Study Tour In the fall quarter students have the opportunity to spend one week in New York. The focus of the appointments on this tour is FIDM alumni working in New York. The visits during this tour enable students to more fully understand the vast network of fashion and its related industries in the United States. The Paris Summer Institute This program takes place between spring and summer quarter each year. While in Paris students visit museums, design and retail businesses as well as participating in special programs that change annually. The Summer Institute provide students with the opportunity to experience first-hand the excitement of living in Paris. Knowledge of the French language is helpful but not mandatory. 35

Our curriculum has been developed, and is continually updated, to reflect the needs of each industry served by our majors. Associate of Arts Degree Programs Associate of Arts Programs are designed for high school graduates or applicants who meet the institution s Ability to Benefit (ATB) criteria. 8 Associate of Arts Professional Designation Degree Programs Professional Designation Programs are concentrated programs for individuals who have substantial academic and professional experience in a discipline and who wish to add a new field of specialization. These are 9-month or 12-month programs of intensive study in one of the college s specialized majors and culminate in the awarding of an Associate of Arts degree. Students from other regionally accredited degree programs have the opportunity to complement their previous education by enrolling in a Professional Designation Program. Programs are offered in the following majors: Apparel Manufacturing Management Art, Culture, & Design Beauty Industry: Merchandise & Marketing Fashion Design Graphic Design Merchandise Marketing Merchandise Product Development Textile Design Visual Communications Acceptance to the Professional Designation Program is contingent upon: U.S. Students: 1. Possession of a U.S. regionally accredited associates, bachelors or masters degree. 2. Degrees may be evaluated to verify that certain liberal arts requirements are met. International Students: 1. Possession of a certified or U.S. equivalent bachelors or masters degree. 2. TOEFL score or 483/160 (computer based) -OR- successfully pass FIDM Essay Placement Exam. Associate of Arts Advanced Study Degree Programs Associate of Arts Advanced Study Programs develop specialized expertise in the student s unique area of study. Admission is limited to candidates who possess a prior FIDM degree. 9 THE SCHOOL OF APPAREL MANUFACTURING MANAGEMENT The Apparel Manufacturing Management Program is designed to prepare students for eventual ownership and/or management of a fashion manufacturing company. This applied learner-centered program involves the student in all phases of product and line development, domestic and global sourcing, production planning, technology use, sales management, financial control, and human resources management. The curriculum stresses the importance of teamwork and effective communication in decision making from the development of the initial concept to the delivery of the finished product. You have access to FIDM s 12,000-square-foot garment district loft that simulates a manufacturing facility, as you study costing, production planning, line development, textile testing, and other applications in the apparel industry. Career opportunities are exploding as companies adapt new technology to methods that have been used for generations. FIDM s program readies you to meet the demand for highly skilled technicians and management personnel able to bridge the old with the new in this highly charged field. Students in this major may apply for a third-year program in International Manufacturing & Product Development. 17 THE SCHOOL OF INTERIOR DESIGN The Interior Design Program curriculum is a comprehensive program combining theoretical elements of interior design with practical creative approaches to the solution of functional and aesthetic design problems in the living, working, and recreational human environment. Competencies developed by the program include architectural drafting, illustration and presentation skills (including presentation boards and perspective drawing), design proficiency, and a working knowledge of the materials, resources, and business procedures pertaining to the interior design profession. Completion of the curriculum satisfies the educational requirement for professional membership in ASID and IIDA and enables students to qualify for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examination. A major segment of the American economy, merchandise marketing offers wide-ranging career options, including buying, product development, marketing, sales, store operations or management, trend forecasting, planning, distribution and sales support. This fast, two-year curriculum is overseen by top retail leaders on FIDM s Advisory Board, ensuring that students receive the most complete, up-to-the-minute education.
