2 Join us for the First ISTSS Traumatic Stress Conference in Hangzhou in October 17-19, 2014, and learn more about how we can better understand trauma and its consequences. This meeting will give us a state of the art update on the most recent knowledge about PTSD and other trauma consequences, early interventions after disasters, clinical treatment options etc. International professionals from USA, Netherlands, Switzerland, Australian, Japan, Hong Kong, including the most renowned experts from China will provide cutting-edge knowledge for psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, social workers, counsellors, researchers, teachers, police, journalists, healthcare workers, lawyers and other professionals involved in working with persons who have been exposed to violence or trauma. The conference is initiated by The International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and organized by The Seventh Hospital of Hangzhou, in collaboration with Zhejiang Behavior Medicine Association. 5 Speakers 18 October in English and Chinese Miranda Olff, Professor Prof Dr Miranda Olff currently is head of the Center for Psychological Trauma at the department of Psychiatry at the Academic Medical Center of the University of Amsterdam and professor at the Arq Psychotrauma Expert Group. Her major areas of research have focused on the psychological and biological responses to traumatic stress and (early) intervention trials. She has a visiting professorship in Norway. She is the president-elect of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). She is the editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Psychotraumatology (EJPT). Yonghua Zhang, Professor Prof Zhang s main research area is the combination therapy of emotional diseases with traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine. He is good at treating insomnia, anxiety and depression et al. Prof. Zhang is the director of the Seventh Hospital of Hangzhou. He is the director of Zhejiang Behavior Medicine Association; the vice chairman of Traditional Chinese Medicine Specialty of Chinese Sleep Research Society; the director of Emotional Diseases Branch of Zhejiang Province Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine; the deputy directors of Internal Medicine Branch, Spleen & Stomach Disease Branch, Liver Disease Branch of Zhejiang Province Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine; secretary general of Zhejiang Province Association of Mental Health Promotion. Kitty Wu, PhD Dr. Kitty Wu has served in Kwai Chung Psychiatric Hospital and Caritas Medical Centre in Hong Kong as a clinical psychologist. She is the founding President of Asian Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. She was awarded with the Chief Executive s Commendation for Community Service and the Hong Kong Humanity Award. She has served as the Chair of the Subcommittee for Accreditation of Clinical Psychology Training and the Convenor of the Critical Incident Team of the Division of Clinical Psychology, Hong Kong Psychological Society. She is a member of the Community Care Service Management Committee of the Hong Kong Red Cross. Her research interests include posttraumatic stress, developmental neuropsychology and palliative care. Dr. Wu has written six books on psychological health for the public, edited the book Healing
6 Trauma: A Professional Guide and has publications in various international journals. Debra Kaysen, Professor Dr. Debra Kaysen holds the UW Medicine Depression Therapy Research Endowed Professorship and is a Professor in the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Department at the University of Washington and an adjunct Professor in the Departments of Global Health and Psychology. Her research is situated at the interface of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and addictions, and includes both etiologic and prevention/treatment-oriented studies. Dr. Kaysen conducts research across a variety of trauma exposed populations including active duty military, veterans, lesbian and bisexual women, torture survivors, and sexual assault survivors. She has been involved with international research projects adapting treatments for PTSD for low and medium resource settings such as for torture survivors in Iraq, and for rape victims in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She also trains therapists across the U.S. and internationally in empirically supported treatments for PTSD. Dr. Kaysen is a current board member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Meaghan O'Donnell, Professor Meaghan O'Donnell, BAppSc (N), BSc (Hons), MPsy (Clin), PhD. She is the Director of Research at the Australian Centre for Posttraumatic Mental Health (ACPMH), and Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne. She has published over 60 peer reviewed articles in the area of posttraumatic mental health and has an H-index of 24. Her major areas of research include early interventions after trauma exposure, phenomenology of traumatic stress responses, and disability after trauma. She is currently the vice president of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies, and is on the editorial board for the European Journal of Traumatic Stress Studies. Ueli Schnyder, Professor Ulrich Schnyder, M.D., psychiatrist and licensed psychotherapist. Professor of psychiatry and psychotherapy. Head, Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland. Research activities are currently focused on various aspects of traumatic stress research, including epidemiology, neurobiology, psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy for PTSD, and resilience to stress. Past President, European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ESTSS). Past President, International Federation for
7 Psychotherapy (IFP). Past President, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). Recipient of the Wolter de Loos Award for Distinguished Contribution to Psychotraumatology in Europe (ESTSS). Harold Kudler, Professor Dr. Kudler trained in Psychiatry at Yale and is Associate Professor at Duke University in North Carolina, USA. He has received teaching awards from the Duke Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychoanalytic Association. From 2002 to 2010, Dr. Kudler coordinated mental health services for a three state region of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and from 2000 through 2005 co-chaired VA s Special Committee on PTSD which reports to Congress. He founded the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) PTSD Practice Guidelines taskforce and serves on the ISTSS Board of Directors. He co-led development of the joint VA/Department of Defense Guideline for the Management of Posttraumatic Stress and serves as advisor to Sesame Street s Talk Listen Connect series for military families. Since 2006, he has co-led the North Carolina Governor s Focus on Returning Military Members and their Families. In 2012, he was appointed to the North Carolina Institute of Medicine. Dr. Kudler is Associate Director of the VA's Mid-Atlantic Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) for Deployment Mental Health and Medical Lead for the VISN 6 Rural Health Initiative. Jianping Wang, Professor Her major areas of research have focused on OCD, PTSD and PGD, and CBT program for Kids. She is CBT therapist certified by Academy of Cognitive Therapy; is among the very first group of Certified Psychological Therapists and Credentialed Supervisors of Counseling and Psychotherapy in China; is among the very first group of Trauma Therapists in China; Director and founder, Center of Counseling/Psychotherapy and Research, Beijing Normal University; Trainer and Private therapist and psychiatrist. She currently is Vice Chair at Department of Clinical Psychology, Anding Psychiatric Hospital, Capital University of Medical Sciences (Beijing).
8 Yoshiharu Kim, Professor Yoshiharu Kim, MD, PhD presides the National Information Center for Disaster Mental Health and the department of Adult Mental Health within the National Institute of Mental Health, Japan. He was first involved in the anti-stigma research of schizophrenia and came to be assigned to study PTSD and other traumatic reactions to natural disasters, criminality, accidents, violence, etc., after he participated in the mental care of the rescued hostages from the Japanese Ambassador's residence house in Peru. Dr Kim has organized epidemiological, clinical, and brain researches of PTSD and particularly specialize in the psychological treatment of PTSD, especially the prolonged exposure therapy. As the center is affiliated to the Japanese government, he takes responsibility for the care of the community after disasters or massive criminality. Dr Kim is also one of the founders of the Japanese Society for Traumatic Stress Studies and serves as the editor in chief of its journal. The department is in good collaboration with a number of European, American and Asian colleagues. Aimin Bao, Professor is Professor of Neurobiology, PhD program supervisor, Principle Investigator of the Neurobiology of Neuropsychiatric Disorders Lab of Zhejiang University school of Medicine. Her major areas of research have focused on the neuroendocrinology of stress responses and depression, especially on the factors and neural circuits regulating the HPA axis. She is the Member of Council of the Society for Neuroscience in Zhejiang Province, China; Vice director of Center of Consciousness Science and Oriental Tradition Research of Zhejiang University School of Humanities; and the coordinator and vice director of China Brain Bank, Zhejiang University.
9 Speakers 19 October in Chinese (morning session translated into English) Sujuan Zhang, Deputy Director is Deputy Director of Policy Research Department, National Disaster Reduction Center of Ministry of Civil Affairs, China. With a long and rich experiences in disaster relief work, Ms. Zhang Sujuan has been devoted herself to national policy and theory research of disaster reduction and relief, especially focusing on post-disaster psychosocial care and assessment of psychosocial impact. In 2006 she pursued research and studies on psycho-trauma and post-disaster psychological support as a visiting scholar in Academic Medical Centre of Amsterdam University. In 2012 she was appointed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs together with experts from the Ministry of Health to draw up the national guidance on psychosocial care of natural disasters in China. This guidance has been implemented nationwide since last June and is aimed to further developed into a Chinese Model for post-disaster psychosocial care in the country. Zhiyun Wang, PhD Her major areas of research have focused on Internet-based interventions for traumatized people, stress and coping in families, and the public s emotional expression. She is now a lecturer at Department of Psychology, Wuhan University. She was a post-doctoral researcher in School of Law, Tsinghua University from 2011 to She received her PhD in Health Psychology from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, Since 2010, Zhiyun Wang joined a Sino Swiss Science and Technology Cooperation Program:Internet-based intervention for posttraumatic stress disorder Virtual treatment center.
