2 1. Introduction This technical product information is a quick start guide for the TDT 1500 router in conjunction with mobile communications networks and HeiTel transmitters. The TDT C1500 router offers a high level of flexibility and configurability. The base variant always consists of an IP router for operation in GSM networks. The latest 3G transmission procedures like UTMS, HDSPA and HSUPA provide a solid basis for operation at mobile locations. 2. Requirements The following specifications are assumed: CamDisc/CamTel/CamServer/Cam4mobile transmitters with device firmware 1.80 or higher 12 V DC power supply unit for HeiTel transmitters (8-30 V DC power supply for Cam4mobile) CamControl LITE or CamControl PRO software of version 3.82 or higher as receiver and archive access software TDT C1500 router series 12 V DC power supply for TDT C1500 router o o Nominal voltage 12 V (operating voltage range 7-18 V DC) Rated current 1.2 A 3G/UMTS antenna A SIM card from the mobile network operator activated for data transfer (with dynamic IP address) Access data for the network of the mobile network operator The relevant peripheral devices (cable, cameras, computers, etc.) The following description is for firmware version: Release (see menu Diagnose/Distribution Information) If the firmware status is different, the menu structures can also differ. 3 3. Router Preparation 3.1. Insert data card Insert the SIM card into the SIM 2 slot inside your C1500 router. Ensure that the SIM card used is not PIN-protected Power supply Connect to the power supply in accordance with manufacturer instructions Network connection The C1500 router has two network interfaces (WAN and LAN). For router configuration with a PC or Notebook or to connect a HeiTel video system, use only the LAN network interface. Technical Production Information HeiTel Digital Video GmbH /18

4 4. C1500 via Web Browser Before the C1500 router can be operated with a HeiTel system, it must be configured appropriately. A DHCP service is active on the router. Initial access should be via a CrossLink connection and not within a network with other active DHCP services. Configuration data required (delivery status): IP address: URL for Web interface: Username: tdt Password: tdt To configure the router, proceed as follows: 4.1. Creating a connection to the router Access to the Web interface is via SSL encrypted transfer. Web browsers usually protest that this certificate is not trustworthy and classify the Web interface as unsafe. To gain access, depending on the browser an exception must be created or loading continued despite the recommendation. After continuing to load the Web interface, the log-on page opens on which an authentication is required. For the initial log-on the user name tdt and password tdt is expected. 5 4.2. Overview of Web interface The Web interface is divided into the categories System, Networking, Diagnose and Permanent Save: Under System you make router-internal settings such as time and user. The Networking area is the most multifaceted since the entire scope of function is configurable here. For a mobile network connection, the area PPP Functions is used. The log files and status displays under Diagnose can be used to locate errors. Configuration changes to the router are temporary: following a restart or power failure, default or previously stored configurations are active. To create a permanent configuration, after entering changes under Permanent Save the function Save Config must be accessed. Technical Production Information HeiTel Digital Video GmbH /18

6 4.3. Configuring PPP Connections Overview of configuration: To set up a data connection to the mobile network provider using the router, first a PPP Interface with APN and access data must be configured and a default route specified under extended settings. Under Connection-Manager a static connection is created and configured for automatic dial-up. To check the settings, for the software there is the overview Active PPP Connections and for the hardware GSM Modem State Step-by-step configuration: PPP Interfaces can be configured in the Networking area under the function PPP Functions. A PPP Interface contains the entire configuration for connection to the provider. User name and password are stored, the connection type, e.g. GRPS or UMTS, selected or those actions configured that are accessed following establishment of the connection, e.g. DynDNS update. Click on the PPP Functions symbol to access the relevant function. First, a PPP Interface with data belonging to the desired mobile network provider must be configured. 7 The PPP Interfaces function contains a list of existing entries. When delivered it is empty: No PPP interfaces configured Click Create a new PPP interface to create a new PPP Interface. Accept the default setting PPP0 and select the option UMTS/GPRS. Click Create to open the editing mask. Adjust the parameter for the SIM card used (SIM card = SIM 2). 8 The SIM card must not be PIN-protected. The SIM 2 slot is located inside the device and is the only one that should be used. You now need to enter the PPP access data for the relevant provider in the editing mask. Example: Vodafone Germany APN: web.vodafone.de Username: Password: All other settings are to be entered as shown on the screenshot. 9 For trouble-free Internet access, under Advanced Settings the entry Add a Defaultroute must be changed to Yes. All other entries are standard settings. After you click Save the previous page listing the PPP Interfaces is displayed and ppp0 must be opened again for editing. Select here the Advanced Settings button. 10 Through the PPP Interface the router now has a path to the mobile network provider but cannot yet connect it by itself. To do so, the Connection-Manager (see Networking/Connection- Manager Functions) is required. This is responsible for dynamic connection, i.e. connection when required, or static connection, i.e. connection as soon as the router is started. Click the Connection-Manager Functions symbol to access the relevant function. Click on the Static Connections symbol to access the relevant function. 11 Assignment for the PPP Interface created takes place under Static Connections. Click Add to add the preselected interface ppp0. Accept this setting by clicking Apply. Under Connections in the Connection-Manager, the previously created connection must now be activated. Click Add Connection to open a mask on which to create a new connection. Under Use Interface the ppp0 interface created is selected by default. All other settings can be accepted as they are. Create the entry by clicking Create. Click Return to Connection-Manager to return to the overview where the connection you just created is now displayed. Under Activate Connection-Manager select Yes and accept the settings by clicking Apply Changes. To check the PPP connection to the mobile network provider, use the function Active PPP Connections (see Networking/PPP Functions/Active PPP Connections). 12 This function is used to check the previously made settings. If a connection was created, under Active PPP Connections the current values for Type (connection type), Local IP (WAN IP address of the router), Remote IP (provider IP address), State (status) and Uptime (operating time) are displayed. 13 4.4. Diagnosing connection problems Under Diagnose you will find a number of functions by which to check for errors. For a GSM/GPRS/UMTS connection the function GSM Modem State is the means by which to ensure that everything is okay with the mobile network connection, that signal strength is sufficient and that registration with the provider was successful. For analyses, system information and the router logs are available. If a connection has been created successfully, data on the registered network is given here. The Signal Quality bar indicates the signal strength of the mobile network. Click Refresh to update the display. Technical Production Information HeiTel Digital Video GmbH /18

14 If the signal is too weak, relocate the router or use an external additional antenna. If not, intermittent connectivity or considerably slower transfer speeds could result. 15 4.5. Changing the network address of the LAN interface The LAN interface is administered in the router as eth0. Under Networking you will find the option Network Configuration. 16 Click on one of the entries to open an editing mask. To edit the IP address of the network interface, click on eth0 to open the relevant parameter overview. Under Interfaces Active Now the current configuration can be modified for test purposes. To make a change permanent, it must be made under Interfaces Activated at Boot Time. IP address, network mask and MTU can be adapted to the existing network. The IP address adapted here is the gateway address for other devices in the network of the router. The DHCP service active on the router can generate collisions in a network with other DHCP services. 17 5. Transmitter Configuration (CamDisc/CamTel/CamServer/Cam4mobile) 5.1. Connection settings In the Connections menu on the Network tab you must enter an IP address from the IP address group of the C1500 router. The previously configured IP address of the router (standard IP address ) is the gateway address for the HeiTel system. You must also enter the DNS Server of the provider. If necessary, contact your mobile network provider to obtain the necessary information. Example: Vodafone Germany DNS1: DNS2: If you wish to use the DHCP function of the C1500 router and the latter was configured correctly, instead of the connection settings given above you can also activate the Obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP) function and if necessary also the Obtain a DNS server address automatically function. 18 5.2. HTconnect Since, generally speaking, no fixed IP addresses are assigned in UMTS networks and the transmitter cannot therefore be reached directly, HeiTel uses the HTconnect procedure with which the transmitter sets up an active connection to the receiving PC. To use HTconnect under Connections/HTconnect the fixed IP address of the receiving PC must be entered. Any port releases on the receiving side must be taken into account here.
