4 Board report Inspire2Live was founded 10 February 2010 and created with the aim to empower people to convert the sense of powerlessness, caused by cancer, into one of strength. We achieve this by motivating as many people as possible to constantly challenge and expand their boundaries. Inspire2Live is founded on the absolute belief that you can attain the greatest possible satisfaction if you put your heart and soul into helping others. Our motto is Never, ever quit! We refuse to accept any limitations in what we can and will achieve. We have a mission: To get cancer under control within 10 years and inspire people to lead Happy and Healthy lives in Harmony with cancer. The members of the board of the foundation are all non paid board members. In 2011 we worked further on implementing events in other countries based on the success of Alpe d HuZes. What can be done in the Netherlands can be done in all the countries in the world. Cancer does not discriminate and it is needed to connect patients, clinicians and researchers all around the world for our common goal. Connecting these groups with the real aim to make a difference will speed up the process. It is all about sharing and working together. 1) 2011 was actually the first year with a lot of activities for setting up the research that will get cancer under control before We started our 10 year program Understanding Life! on January 17th. 2) In 2010 we started the search for funds for this program. In 2011 we continued our quest. 3) It became clear that raising funds for projects that are set up internationally is not easy. Countries want to pay for research set up in their own country and not for research done in others. Therefore we changed our concept. We now bring together researchers and after setting up the researchers we will bring the funders in. This will be done as from We realized that financing the projects that will bring cancer under control is a major task and will cost hundreds of millions. Working this way with the funding means that we only need money for our own program office and some money for travelling, housing and organizing meetings and congresses. 4) At the end of 2010 Inspire2Live was given a startup fund amounting to 5 million euro by Alpe d HuZes and KWF (the Dutch Cancer Organization) which amount will be paid in line with the development of our activities. In 2010 we only hired one consultant (Coen van Veenendaal) and in 2011 we also asked Jan Gerrit Schuurman and Rob Snelders to join the paid organization for Understanding Life! Together these three men form the program office. 5) 2011 was also the year that we split our organization in two parts: Events and research. The events are all based on the same principles as Alpe d HuZes and are voluntary work. The research is mostly paid work. 6) We expanded the board with members from the UK, Germany and France. 7) In 2011 we first organized in the UK Tumble4Life. With this event we raise funds for Cancer Research UK. 4
5 8) In 2011 we had the first discussions about setting up a third part of our organization: Patient Advocacy. This will be worked out in ) Four clinical trials were chosen after being discussed by our Scientific Advisory Board. The scientists were informed and the contracts as well as the research were prepared in the end of The actual launch of the programmes is expected in ) In 2011 we also organized a conference. We invited 50 of the best researchers and clinicians of the world and let them work together on the question: 'How can we get cancer under control in 10 years? The conference was very fruitful and the plans will be rolled out in 2012 and further. In 2012 we will continue our work and fulfill the programme plan with projects to realize our mission. Amsterdam, 30 January 2012, Peter Kapitein President of Inspire2Live 5

8 Notes to the financial statements for the year 2011 General Applied standards The financial statements were prepared in accordance with the provisions of Part 9, Book 2, of the Netherlands Civil Code and the guidelines included in Richtlijn voor de Jaarverslaggeving 640, organisaties zonder winststreven (non-profit organisations). Activities The principal goals of Inspire2Live are: * stimulation of organisations with the primary goal to raise funds for the benefit of cancer research by organizing events; * the set-up of worldwide, sustainable medical research; * to stimulate and support scientific cancer research under all conditions, to let people be able to live Good, Happy and Healthy with cancer; * to act and present herself, both internally and externally, as a non-governmental organisation, and to carry out her activities in such a way that she will always be independent from governmental institutes; * to be a non-profit organisation. Inspire2Live wants to achieve these goals by facilitating and inspiring people to organize sport events and by setting up activities which directly or indirectly attribute to the realisation of her goals, including secondary commercial and profit generating activities, consistent with relevant laws, of which the profits will be used completely for the realisation of the goals. Principles for the valuation of assets and liabilities and the determination of the results General If not stated otherwise, assets and liabilities are shown at nominal value. An asset is disclosed in the balance sheet when it is probable that the expected future economic benefits that are attributable to the asset will flow to the entity and the cost of the asset can be reliably measured. A liability is disclosed in the balance sheet when it is expected to result in an outflow from the entity of resources embodying economic benefits and the amount of the obligation can be measured with sufficient reliability. If a transaction results in a transfer of future economic benefits and or when all risks relating to assets or liabilities transfer to a third party, the asset or liability is no longer included in the balance sheet. Assets and liabilities are not included in the balance sheet if economic benefits are not probable or cannot be measured with sufficient reliability. The income and expenses are accounted for in the period to which they relate. The preparation of the financial statements requires the board to form opinions and to make estimates and assumptions that influence the application of principles and the reported values of assets and liabilities and of income and expenditure. The actual results may differ from these estimates. The estimates and the underlying assumptions are constantly assessed. Revisions of estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised and in future periods for which the revision has consequences. 8
9 Receivables Receivables are stated at nominal value less a provision for doubtful debts. Provisions are designated on the basis of individual assessment of recoverability of the receivable. Result The result is calculated as the difference between income and all the costs attributable to it during the year under review. The costs are calculated with due regard for the applicable valuation principles stated previously. 9
