3 Corporate finance deals has been a productive year for Gateley's Corporate and Banking & Financing teams supporting clients in their corporate and funding activity. Under challenging economic conditions, we demonstrated our extensive expertise by helping clients deliver on more than 250 deals with a combined value in excess of 1.4 billion over the course of the year. Underpinning our success is a focus on local service delivery and client care. Attracting high calibre candidates to each of our offices has been a key strategy for developing our regional operations whilst also being an asset to the national team. Across each of our offices, we have continued to invest in developing the very best teams to ensure that we are able to deliver clear, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to our clients. Investment has included the recruitment of Nick Emmerson as our first corporate partner in Leeds and the promotions of Jacob Robinson and Anna Mayfield as partners within the Banking & Finance team. Euan Cluness was appointed as a banking partner in the team in Scotland. This investment ensures that we are able to provide the very best legal advice to our clients and is reflected in the ranking of Gateley in the Experian 2013 Corpfin M&A Advisor legal tables, where we rank second nationally for volume of deals, first in the Midlands and second in the North West. This is testament to the quality and commerciality of our service, which was ranked as Best Legal Adviser in the Legal Week independent report on client satisfaction in This surveyed more than 1,200 senior in-house lawyers. Gateley topped the score for personal/partner relationships and beat benchmarks on commercial and legal advice as well as service delivery. The year saw the Manchester office receive notable recognition in the 2013 North West Insider Dealmaker Awards, advising the winner and runner up in the Deal of the Year (sub 5M) category. In addition, the Corporate team was highly commended for its role in the Deal of the Year entry and shortlisted in the Legal Team of the Year category. The Corporate team in Scotland was shortlisted in the Legal Team of the Year category at the Scottish Business Insider Deals & Dealmakers Awards. The firm has won over 40 awards in the past three years including Best Regional Law Firm at the Legal Business Awards and was voted 2012 Corporate Law Firm of the Year at the Midlands Insider Dealmakers Awards. With greater positivity and more funding available, both from traditional banking markets as well as other lenders, such as uni-tranche lending, the second half of 2013 saw signs of gathering momentum in the market. The number of private equity deals continued to grow during the year with our national private equity team advising on more than 66 private equity based transactions with a combined value in excess of 480 million. In Scotland, a number of deals, including the sale of Divex Limited to James Fisher Marine Services and the investment by Lloyd's Register Group Limited into Senergy (the largest ever equity investment made by Lloyds Register), demonstrated the strong performance of the energy market during the year. Investment in the energy sector is set to continue into 2014 throughout the UK. It is becoming an increasingly attractive option for investors both home and overseas, with investment in major infrastructures becoming a key part of the offer. There are promising signals that we will see more deal activity in One consequence of this is that an increasing number of businesses will struggle as growth returns to the market and challenges working capital management.
