2 Executive Summary Employers of Yavapai Collee 00-0 Nursin Graduates In summer 00, a survey was distributed to Arizona employers of 00-0 Yavapai Collee nursin raduates. From a list provided by the Yavapai Collee nursin department, the employers were located primarily in Yavapai County as well as throuhout Arizona. Employers were defined as firms that provide the followin services: lon-term care, home health/hospice, hospital, office practice and other. Forty-eiht (8) raduates from 00-0 were also identified per the Yavapai Collee database. Eiht (8) surveys were returned with four of the respondents indicatin they have not hired a Yavapai Collee nursin raduate recently. While the overall response rate may appear low, those respondin have hired a lare share of Yavapai Collee raduates in the past three years. Number of YC Graduates Hired Number of Employers - employees -0 employees or more employees Of those surveyed, % (five employers) worked in hospitals. One (%) worked in lon-term care, one (%) worked in home health/hospice and one (%) worked in an outpatient facility. Level of Satisfaction with Graduate Preparation The followin components were measured to determine the employers perspectives of the preparation received by the Yavapai Collee Nursin raduates. Due to the small number of respondents, the data should be viewed with caution. With the exception of a few fair responses, the majority of the employers rated Yavapai Collee preparation as ood or very ood. None of the employers ave poor or very poor responses to any of the measures. Please comment concernin preparation of the nursin proram raduate related to any of the previous items.. Efficiency, deleation and plan of care/education are areas that improve once the new rads et into a routine for patient care and are not so overwhelmed with new experiences.. Critical thinkin overal [sic] I find your raduates to be doin well but can still use more critical thinkin skills.. Many of the questions relate to development of skills that increase with time and experience.. I have not hired any raduate nursin students from any collees in the last couple years. I am unable to fill out this questionnaire. 8. Overall the VA has been very pleased with the quality of preparation of YC Grads. Compared to other schools (inc. BSN prepared) Yavapai is outstandin technically. 7. Please share any ideas you may have that could help Yavapai Collee better prepare reistered nurses for work at your aency.. Share with students importance of appearance; body piercins, belly shirts, etc., are not professional and should not be worn on the job.. I believe that they are well prepared in theory but need more clinical time. Prior to raduatin they should be able to manae a patient load of patients.. Time manaement this is touh as this [tic] a skill developed over time.. I would suest they volunteer before their raduation to ain experience and knowlede. 8. VA pts consistently have co-morbidities with one of the main Rx substance abuse. Nurses havin an understandin of addictions is valuable.

7 8. What are your most pressin workforce development needs in the health care area in terms of positions and skills at your aency?. Critical care.. Many of the raduates want to work in the critical care settin vs med/sur. If this is oin to be the trend than [sic] there needs to be more focus to these area [sic] durin school. Thanks for the reat job that you do.. Depth on the nursin staff.. We really need applicants. We have not had any inquiries from Yavapai Collee.. We are short reistered nurses at this time. I need RN!! 8. 9% RN VA are eliible to retire within next - yrs. Averae ae of RNs is over 0 yrs. There are few RNs ready to step up to leadership roles. Our needs for staff nurses will row each year and alon with that our needs for nurses lookin to make VA a career choice will also row.
