There s even free shuttle service between the campus and Central Islip s Long Island Rail Road station when you want to take advantage of all that New York City has to offer. 4 TOURO LAW COMPLETELY EXCEEDED ALL OF MY EXPECTATIONS. THANKS TO TOURO LAW, I AM READY AND CONFIDENT TO START MY NEW CAREER AND THANKS TO ALL THE PRACTICAL SKILLS I GAINED HERE, I KNOW I WILL BE SUCCESSFUL. Tesla Carrasquillo 14 PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Through Touro Law s Portals to Practice learning program, all students are immersed in a curriculum that incorporates classroom learning with hands-on lawyering opportunities. In the first year, students are visiting the courthouses and helping unrepresented litigants with pro bono divorce cases. In the following years of law school, students are working under faculty supervision to represent real clients with real cases. Proactive learning opportunities are matched with a student s career goal, and the experience increases incrementally from the first day of law school through graduation. This innovative curriculum is designed to give our graduates the edge they need to succeed in the practice of law.
5 Hon. Jeffrey Arlen Spinner 87 County Judge and Acting Supreme Court Justice, Suffolk County, N.Y. My legal education from Touro Law provided me with a solid foundation, enabling me to succeed both as a practicing attorney and a judge. Touro Law s unique focus on our obligation to make the world a better place remains with me as a daily guide. Our Portals to Practice curriculum combines coursework with hands-on learning.
6 AREAS OF CONCENTRATION Touro Law offers a high-quality general legal education. Additionally, those with particular passions in certain areas may choose to concentrate their coursework. Aging and Longevity Law Our Aging and Longevity Law program prepares effective advocates for an increasingly aging population by covering topics that range from elder benefits to elder abuse, and providing insights from related fields such as sociology and health facilities administration. Criminal Law Touro Law prepares students for careers as prosecutors and defense attorneys by offering a course of study in criminal law theory, advocacy skills development and experiential learning. Our students learn about the substantive law, policy and ethics needed to become skilled practitioners in this competitive field. Our alumni have a proven record of success in criminal law. Land Use and Sustainable Development Law Land use planning and growth management regulation are important tools for building a sustainable, resilient future. Our Land Use and Sustainable Development Law program examines the cutting-edge strategies and innovations that address land use, real estate, and environmental sustainability matters. Solo and Small Practice Law The creation of a Solo and Small Practice concentration acknowledges this practice trend and seeks to close the gap between the doctrinal knowledge currently taught in law school and the competencies necessary to operate a successful solo practice. It will create a solid foundation for Touro Law grads who desire to work in Touro Law s Community Justice Center incubator. YOUR EDUCATION, YOUR WAY We re dedicated to your success. Our comprehensive resources and services give you the individualized help you need to refine your study skills, personalize your course of study and optimize your proficiency in writing. Our professors are passionate about teaching and ready to support you with day and evening office hours. We re there for you, too, when it s time to study for the bar exam, set career goals, and embark on a successful legal career.

12 PUBLIC ADVOCACY CENTER Touro Law is home to the William Randolph Hearst Public Advocacy Center (PAC). The only one of its kind in the nation, the Center was developed to have an impact on social justice, legal training and the lives of countless individuals in and beyond the local community. COLLABORATIVE COURT PROGRAM The hallmark of a Touro Law education is the innovative balance of coursework and practical experience. Our Collaborative Court Program leverages our unique proximity to State and Federal courthouses to bring together members of the bench, the bar and the academy in an exceptionally practical approach to legal education. The Program begins with court observation, bridging the gap between courtroom theory and practice with court integration, and culminates with court specialization. Housed within the law school, the PAC provides furnished offices to local non-profit agencies in exchange for a promise to utilize Touro Law students for advocacy services, research and client relations. Students work with these organizations to satisfy their pro bono requirements while developing an understanding of the problems facing the local community.
13 Federal Court Building in Islip, NY > Michael Boykin 11 The court observation program crystallized for me everything I had learned in the classroom. It was then that I discovered my passion for criminal law. TOURO LAW CENTER PROVIDED ME NOT ONLY WITH A SOLID BASIS IN PUBLIC SERVICE, BUT A STRONG FOUNDATION IN BUSINESS LAW, THAT HAS HELPED ME TO ACHIEVE PROFESSIONAL SUCCESS WHILE CONTINUING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Matthew W. Daus 92 Our students are in the courtroom within weeks, not years.
