IN THE STAGE OF PREPARATIONS ARE CENTRES OF EXCEL- LENT SCIENCE SUCH AS THE AMBITIOUS PROJECT OF THE CENTRAL EUROPEAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (CEITEC, WHICH IS FOCUSED ON BASIC RESEARCH, AND IMPORTANT REGIONAL CENTRES OF APPLIED RESEARCH (INCLUDING CETOCOEN AND CERIT). A boost to the dynamic development of MU was given by the unique project of a university campus built on an area of 20 hectares in Brno-Bohunice at the cost of approximately EUR 200 million between 2005 and It is comprised of two dozen pavilions for Life Science and includes an incubator of biomedical technologies for newly established firms. The MU place of contact for co-operation with partners is the Technology Transfer Office, which protects the MU intellectual property and secures the transfer of technologies and knowledge. Within two years it went from a research-stage product into a world-class, industrial-strength, multiobjective optimization platform, named modefrontier. The initial competence in optimization techniques, numerical analysis and information technology was enlarged and now ESTECO competences cover all technological components needed for integrating design and simulation tools into a single IT environment. Prof. Michal Kozubek Head of the CBIA cbia.fi.muni.cz Centre for Biomedical Image Analysis is interested in automation of image acquisition and image analysis in light microscopy. The research is mostly focused on processing of tissues, cells, cell nuclei, chromosomes, and genes in order to contribute to understanding of genetic material organization in human cell nuclei. Instruments developed for this purpose in the Centre are unique in the world. University biomedical image analysis, digital image acquisition, light microscopy, image cytometry Sector: applied computer science Number of employees: 20 We offer know-how in the fields of digital image analysis as well as digital image acquisition, especially when applied to light microscopy and to processing images of cells and their components (stained genes, chromosomes, proteins, etc.). We have experience in handling the cell material and its staining and preparation for light microscopy. We can optimize and automate the light microscopy system for a particular application. We concentrate on confocal spatial (3D) imaging including live cell imaging over time. Thanks to the imaging software developed by our group we have built several unique automated light microscopy systems and are able to help with the construction of other such systems.
