In this course, students learn about the process of developing and conducting research in an academic setting. Students complete a research project under the direction of a faculty member. Teaching Literacy Skills for Students with Visual Impairments (SPE 520; online) This class examines important areas related to the development of literacy for students with visual impairments. topics including pre-braille skills, teaching Braille to students who also use print as one of their literacy tools, and literacy skills as they relate to students who have multiple impairments. Working with Students with Multiple Impairments Including Visual Impairments (SPE 552; online) Students are required to study a wide array of conditions that often accompany vision loss as well as educational programming considerations, assessment, and adaptation of environments for these students.

5 Basic Orientation and Mobility (SPE 518; online) This course examines how early sensory, concept, and motor development are impacted by visual impairments. Body imagery, concept development, spatial awareness and mobility is considered. Structure and Function of the Visual System (RHB 340; face-to-face) This class is designed to familiarize the student with the various parts of the visual system and their impact on the process of seeing. The Functional Vision/Learning Media Assessment process is also introduced. Programs and Services for Visual Impairment (RHB 325; hybrid) A broad overview of various aspects of blindness (e.g. agencies which provide services to persons with visual impairments, psychological and sociological aspects of blindness, history of the field, etc.) Courses Developed Assistive Technology for Individuals with Disabilities (SPE 466; online) Instruction in the use of technology which enhances learning, functioning, and independent living for individuals with disabilities.
