1 Transfer Guide to St. Louis Community College Clinical Laboratory Technology STLCC- is required to complete the AAS Degree. The clinical laboratory technician analyzes human blood and tissue samples. These technicians work in hospitals, clinical laboratories, doctor s offices, public health, research and industrial laboratories. The perform typing and cross matching of blood, antibody identification, various chemical analyses and standard techniques in microbiology, coagulation, quality control and other routine procedures. Graduates are eligible to take a National Certifying Registry Examination. Requirements for admission: Courses: Basic Algebra or one year high school algebra, General Biology or one year high school biology with lab and one year of high school chemistry with lab. The student must complete the pre-requisite courses with C or better grades in each course for enrollment in the Clinical Lab program. The cumulative grade point average (high school or college) must be 2.50 on a 4.0 scale. Students interested in the program should complete a Forest park application prior to beginning courses because of the STLCC wait lists. A dental hygienist is a licensed oral health professional who provides services to promote optimal oral health care for the public. Under the supervision of a dentist, a hygienist may expose and process dental radiographs, apply cavity preventative agents, remove deposits on teeth, place and remove filings and dressings, and take impressions. Students must purchase their own uniforms and instruments when they enter the program. grades in each course for enrollment in the Dental Hygiene program. This program prepares students for positions as occupational therapy assistants who work under the supervision of registered occupational therapists. Through courses in the structure and function of the human body, psychology and occupational therapy principles and techniques, in addition to clinical experiences, students learn skills in interviewing; assessing; and treatment planning and implementation. This program prepares students for positions as physical therapist assistants who work under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. Students acquire knowledge and technical skills necessary to help people of all ages regain their ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives after illness or trauma. Care provided by the PTA may include teaching patients exercises for mobility, strength and coordination; training for activities such as waling with an artificial limb, using crutches, walker, braces; helping patients learn to manage or relieve pain; and use physical modalities and electrotherapy. Requirements for admission: General Biology or one year high school biology with lab and one year of high school chemistry with lab. The radiologic technologist takes radiographs, develops film and maintains patient records. These health team members work in hospitals, clinics and private physicians offices under the supervision of a radiologist. Graduates of this AAS program may transfer to Missouri University-Columbia towards the Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology. Graduates may also take the certification examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. grades in each course for enrollment in the Radiologist program. A respiratory therapist administers treatments to patients with heart and lung ailments. These therapists work in hospitals under the supervision of physicians and other allied health specialists. You will make a good respiratory therapist if you are team oriented, scientifically inclined and if you have an interest in the mechanical operation and repair of equipment. Consider a career in respiratory therapy if you are a compassionate person who can help others during a time of crisis.
