Alexander V. Andryushin Head of laboratory Propulsion complexes of ships, CNIIMF (Central Marine Research & Design Institute) In 1983 Alexander V. Andryushin graduated from the State Marine Technical University in St. Petersburg. In he worked at the Krylov Shipbuilding Research Institute at the ice test tank. He specializes in the field of the operational strength of elements of the propulsion systems of ice ships and icebreakers including the development of methods of the ice loads forecasting (both for propulsion complex and hull). He performed special mathematic investigations on the development of methods of the forecasting of extreme probable load values by the statistic (random) sampling of small volume. In 1996 Alexander Andryushin defended at the Marine Technical University his first thesis Elaboration of rudder-propeller systems of ice ships and icebreakers by the results of experimental investigations. Within the framework of the first thesis the methodology of forecasting ice loads upon propellers based on the results of model tests in the ice tank was developed. In 1999 he started working at the Head office of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). During the work at the RS, drafts of new requirements for the propulsion power of ice ships and for the strength of icebreaker propulsion systems were prepared. In 2007 he defended his doctoral thesis Theory of the propeller/ice interaction. Assurance of the operational strength of elements of the propulsion systems of ice ships and icebreakers. Within the bounds of the IACS working group he participated in the development of the Unified requirements for machinery plants of polar ships. He participated as well in the full-scale trials of icebreaker of the Arktika type, large icebreaking tankers of the V. Guzhenko type, modern icebreaker Varandey and other ships. He represented RS in the ARCOP project. Since 2011 Alexander V. Andryushin works at CNIIMF. He participated in the development of a large LNG carrier for Yamal and large capacity tanker to transport oil from OB Bay. He has got about 50 scientific works. David F.
