All questions on the application must be answered fully. Your admission is invalid if granted on the basis of incorrect information or omitted facts. UH Distance Education applicants also can use the Apply Texas Application. Additional Information can be found on the Distance Education Web site. The Honors College welcomes applications from academically serious students who are entering the university as freshmen or are transferring from other colleges and universities. The majority of applicants are admitted for the fall semester, but it is possible to begin in spring. You must apply to the University of Houston Office of Admissions as well as the Honors College. Please note that university admission approval does not guarantee admission to The Honors College, and approval to The Honors College does not guarantee admission to the University of Houston. Submit the $50 nonrefundable application fee. You have the option of paying by credit card when using the online services of the Apply Texas Application or using the Enrollment Services Online. Otherwise, please send a check or money order made payable to the University of Houston, and include your UH student ID number. Cash is not accepted. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Automatic Admission If you are a freshman who graduated in the top 20 percent of your high school class, you will be automatically admitted to the university. All applicants, regardless of class rank, must submit SAT I or ACT scores. Regular Admission You will be admitted if you rank in the top 50 percent of your high school class and have a minimum of 1000 SAT I** or ACT 21. ** The new SAT has three components (writing, critical reading, and mathematics). The minimum SAT I of 1000 will include only the scores from the critical reading and mathematics. Individual Review If you who do not meet the requirements for Automatic or Regular Admission, you will be reviewed individually by UH admissions officers. Additional information and factors available from a completed Apply Texas Application (Part2 I and II) will be considered. Additional factors include, but are not limited to, the following: first-generation college attendance, socio-economic background, extent and rigor of your high school curriculum, special talents, abilities or awards earned, family responsibilities, leadership activities, public service, and extracurricular activities. Applicants in the review category may submit additional material if such material would strengthen the student s claim for admission, i.e. an especially strong letter of recommendation or a persuasive statement from the student explaining special circumstances. GED or home schooled applicants will be considered for admission by individual review.
