Based n the success f the first tw schls in The SEED Schl netwrk, ne in Washingtn, D.C. and ne in Baltimre, Maryland, pened its drs t 60 new students in the sixth grade in August 2014 and will expand t serve 120 students in grades 6 & 7 during the schl year. At full scale, SEED Miami will grw t serve 400 students in grades 6-12, 100 percent f whm will cme frm underserved cmmunities acrss Suth Flrida. As utlined in Flrida legislatin, an eligible SEED Miami student are all Flrida residents, at risk f academic failure, and cme frm a family whse incme is belw 200 percent f the federal pverty guidelines. They must als meet at least ne f the belw fur additinal risk factrs: The child is served under the child welfare waiver demnstratin, (t include fster care) r has been declared an adjudicated dependent by a curt The student s head f husehld is nt the student s custdial parent The student resides in a husehld that receives a husing vucher r has been determined eligible fr public husing assistance A member f the student s immediate family has been incarcerated All students live n campus between Sunday afternn and Friday afternn and transprtatin is prvided back and frth t hme and schl n the weekends. * Mre infrmatin can be fund n the schl s website: Psitin Overview: As an essential part f the schl team, a Mental Health Cunselr s rle is t guide students in their persnal, scial and academic develpment. Mental Health Cunselrs at SEED Miami cnsult with students, families, teachers, barding staff, ther members f the Student Supprt Team and external prviders as needed in rder t identify and respnd t the develpmental needs f ur students. They are respnsible fr designing preventin and interventin strategies in rder t guide students n a healthy path tward adulthd. SEED Mental Health Cunselrs assist students in being able t cmmunicate clearly, slve prblems, cllabrate, gain independence, understand thers perspectives and cultures, and becme cllege and career ready. They lead discussins in ne-n-ne, small grup, and whle-class settings. As Educatrs f Character, Mental Health Cunselrs at SEED Miami teach and mdel ur Cre Values: respect, Respnsibility, Self-Discipline, Integrity, Gratitude and Cmpassin.

2 Essential Duties & Respnsibilities Prvided During Schl and Barding Prgram Hurs 1. Develpment & implementatin f a cmprehensive schl cunseling prgram Plans the cmprehensive schl cunseling prgram with the administrative staff and the student supprt team; Develps and maintains a written plan fr effective delivery f the schl cunseling prgram based n cmprehensive schl cunseling standards and current schl data; Maintains current and apprpriate resurces fr educatin stakehlders; Spends the majrity f time (80% - 90%) prviding direct services thrugh the guidance curriculum, individual student planning and preventive and respnsive services; and mst remaining time (10% - 20%) in prgram management, system supprt and accuntability 2. Delivery f a cmprehensive schl cunseling prgram a. Guidance Curriculum i. Serves as a resurce t teachers, Life Skills Cunselrs and Student Supprt Staff t facilitate the infusin f cunseling cntent int the academic and life skills curricula; ii. Prvides supprtive leadership and cllabrates with ther educatrs in the schlwide integratin f the Cmprehensive Schl Cunseling Prgram with the State s Cmmn Cre Standards b. Cunsels individuals and small grups f students tward scial and emtinal grwth: i. Cnducts structured, gal-riented cunseling sessins thrugh a systematic respnse t identify needs f individuals r grups f students; ii. Recurrent cunseling tpics may include academic failure, bullying, child abuse, attendance prblems, family issues, substance abuse, suicide preventin and interventin, behavir prblems, peer prblems, sexual educatin and pregnancy; iii. Cnducts r prvides pprtunities fr parent educatin prgrams r family supprt grups fcused n increasing parental invlvement, effective parenting skills, increasing the student s intellectual & sci-emtinal utcmes, and ther tpics as determined by the Directr f Student Supprt Services c. Preventive and Respnsive Services i. Fully participates in the schl s admissins prcess, including student recruitment, cmmunity utreach and hme visits as determined by the administrative team; ii. Wrks with the Dean f Culture t plan and implement Psitive Behavir Supprt initiatives including life skills, success plans and tken academy prgrams; iii. Assists in the develpment and implementatin f cunseling prgrams; such as bullying preventin, sex educatin, and sexual rientatin; iv. Prvides individual and grup cunseling t students with identified cncerns and needs; v. Cnducts cnferences with teachers, families, and students t assists with schlrelated cncerns; vi. Implements an effective referral and fllw-up prcess; vii. Accurately and apprpriately uses assessment prcedures and data cllectin r evaluatin fr determining and structuring individual and grup cunseling services d. Services fr Students with Special Needs and their Families

3 3. Accuntability Mental Health Jb Descriptin i. Participates in 504 Plan, Individualized Educatinal Plans (IEP s), Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), Manifestatin Determinatin Review (MDR) meetings and Staffing fr students in caselad r as determined by the Directr f Student Supprt Services; ii. Assumes an active rle in designing, implementing, mnitring, and adjusting educatinal plans fr individual students in cnjunctin with the Directr f Student Supprt Services, Life Skills Cunselrs and the Student Supprt Staff; iii. Assists students, families, teachers and ther stakehlders in interpreting and understanding student Psycheducatinal evaluatin and/r mental health assessment data; iv. Wrks with the Directr f Student Supprt Services t refer children with special needs and their parents t special prgrams, specialists and utside agencies by cnsulting and crdinating with district and cmmunity specialists; such as schl nurses, administratrs, schl psychlgists, service agencies, and physicians; v. Maintains cnfidential cunseling recrds fr all students/families receiving treatment services and submits mnthly reprts t the Directr f Student Supprt Services; vi. Prvides scial and emtinal supprt fr students with special needs; that are designed t increase the student s availability fr learning in the classrm, increase self-esteem, raise the student s expectatins and achievement, and assist student in develping the scial skills needed fr cllege and life; vii. Assists the Directr f Student Supprt Services with mnitring the adequate develpment and implementatin f Functinal Assessment f Behavirs (FAB) and Behavir Implementatin (BIP) plans; viii. Mnitrs and implements the apprpriate use f prtcls fr emergencies while n site Wrks with the student supprt services staff t measure students academic perfrmance, behavir and attendance in rder t assist with apprpriate and timely interventins and RTI Initiatives Reviews the cunseling prgram and cunseling master calendar annually with ther members f the Student Supprt Services Team t evaluate the prgrams and strategies being implemented; Acts as an advcate fr individuals r grups f students as prgrammatic and cunseling decisins are made Adheres t laws, plicies, prcedures, and ethical standards f the schl cmmunity 4. System Supprt Updates systems data and reprting related t cunseling and referral services as determined by the schl s administratin; Maintains accurate recrds f student interactins, cncerns, and data related t student develpment and grwth; 5. Pursues cntinuus prfessinal grwth Mental Health Cunselrs actively participate in and lk fr pprtunities t cntinue their prfessinal grwth thrugh prfessinal develpment pprtunities, cnducting and participating

Sme management r supervisry experience 3-5 years demnstrated success in wrking with urban adlescents and yuth in an urban/diverse educatinal r cunseling setting. Strng interpersnal and presentatin skills, and the ability t generate enthusiasm and cnfidence frm thers. Highly rganized and experienced in managing multiple prjects, with a brad set f gals.

5 Highly cllabrative and cmfrtable wrking in a team that includes managers, peers, and advisrs; Able t interact with team members n a nn-hierarchical basis. Excellent written and verbal cmmunicatin skills with individuals at all levels, bth ne-n-ne and in grups.
