Nurses employed at Gippsland Southern Health Service shall be conversant with and practise according to the: ANCI Code of Ethics For Nurses In Australia ANCI Code of Professional Conduct For Nurses In Australia PERFORMANCE MONITORING: An initial formal review of performance will be undertaken within three months following appointment and then at least every 12 months based upon this position description. LAST APPRAISAL DATE: NEXT APPRAISAL DATE: REVIEW OF POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position description will be reviewed annually in conjunction with Performance Appraisal, when the position becomes vacant or as deemed necessary for on-going and effective performance management.

QUALIFICATIONS: ESSENTIAL: A Registered Nurse, Division One, with current registration in the State of Victoria. Skills required for the position are: - Senior nursing experience in a range of disciplines - The ability to drive change throughout the organisation - Provide support to the Director of Nursing Gippsland Southern Health Service and the Executive Team - Excellent people skills with the ability to communicate at all levels - A commitment to high quality patient care DESIRABLE: Additional post graduate studies. POSITION OBJECTIVE: The scope of this position will include undertaking project work, daily management of a diverse rural hospital, responsibility for advancing nursing practice plus assisting the Director of Nursing Gippsland Southern Health Service to drive change strategically for the organisation across multiple campuses

5 POSITION TITLE: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMANCE INDICATORS P.I. 3 Administration& Documentation DESCRIPTION Ensure that all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner. Demonstrate ability to adhere and commit to cost effective/approved rosters following appropriate funding and rostering guidelines. Demonstrate ability to plan, maintain and provide input into budgetary matters and accepting responsibility for remaining within budgetary constraints as required by Management. Demonstrate ability to ensure that the Health Care facilities comply with the statutory requirements of both State and Commonwealth Health authorities and associated regulating bodies. Demonstrate ability to ensure that all nursing care staff, clients and visitors incidents are reported, actioned and forwarded administration and for clients incidents to be filled in clients file. As a senior manager on site, to inform other managers of incidents that have occurred regarding their staff. Attend Committee Meetings and present appropriate reports. Attend designated meetings assisting in the development of Policy and Recommendations to the Director of Nursing Gippsland Southern Health Service and Executive. Make appropriate recommendations concerning Services provided. Actively deputise for the Director of Nursing Gippsland Southern Health Service as required. Formulate and implement sentinel events process and Adverse Event Analysis. Report and document all clinical practice issues to DON Gippsland Southern Health Service. Provide accurate and timely monthly reports as requested / required by DON Gippsland Southern Health Service / Department Heads. Responsible for policy & procedure development and review formulations within the - Nursing Division - Liaise with NUM s to ensure compliance with same and review of same. Supports resource acquisition to enhance patient management and quality service delivery through submission-writing, data collection and research activities Delegates responsibilities/tasks to others appropriately, that is, consistent with their educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and physical/emotional ability ( competence and readiness ); Assists the NUM to acquire and/or maintain resources/systems/processes necessary to enhance patient management and quality service delivery Development and Review of Clinical Nursing Practice Guidelines throughout the organisation i.e. Policies and Procedures. Collation and review of Clinical Risk Management, Critical incidents, Adverse Event Analysis and Sentinel Event Analysis throughout the organisation. The development and review of the patient care process, inclusive of documentation of nursing care plans, nursing histories / assessments and clinical nursing audits. Representation of Nursing Division on various committees as delegated by Director of Nursing Gippsland Southern Health Service. Collaborates with the Quality Improvement Coordinator to ensure the meeting of required Accreditation standards and Improvement thereof where appropriate.
6 POSITION TITLE: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMANCE INDICATORS DESCRIPTION P.I. 4 Technical Skills And Application Demonstrate ability to take on the overall responsibility and tasks of the Director of Nursing Korumburra Hospital. Responsible for the development and review of the total care process, nursing care plans, nursing assessments/histories and nursing audits. To verify time sheets as required. Responsible for developing and maintaining with the Education Team an in-service education program for the care staff. Demonstrate ability to provide a high standard of nursing care and well-being that provides for physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of the clients, in accordance with the GSHS philosophy and resources. Support clients in the maintenance of links with family, friends and community activities and interest groups outside the family. Ability to use administration protocols implemented by the Organisation. Carry out audits of Quality Systems & patient care trends to monitor adherence of and to maintain desired outcomes. Other duties as directed. Promotes reflective nursing practice within the team; Computer skills particularly in Word and Excel program, use of Outlook Express and internet health links. Monitoring and development of clinical nursing practices throughout the organisation incorporating Effective Discharge Procedures. Management of Education Unit and delegation of duties to staff within this unit. Ensuring appropriate Research and Planning practices are encouraged to promote safe enhanced Nursing Practices.
7 POSITION TITLE: KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PERFORMANCE INDICATORS DESCRIPTION P.I. 5 Teamwork & Communication Ability to coordinate and chair the various meetings within the Acute and Aged Care facilities and ensuring that the minutes are circulated appropriately throughout the various Divisions. Liaise with other Divisions / Department Heads to enhance all aspects of care and quality systems making appropriate recommendations to the Director of Nursing Gippsland Southern Health Service /Executive/Equip Team Leaders Utilises appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to meet psychosocial needs of individuals/groups for whom you are responsible and with whom you interact in your role and manager Communicates effectively with colleagues, individuals and groups, using the appropriate formal or informal channels of communication. Works harmoniously with other GSHS staff and managers and according to established team and organisational goals to achieve service delivery excellence Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with and support the decisions and roles of DON Gippsland Southern Health Service, Assistant Director Of Nursing, Nursing Supervisors (incl. cross campus) and NUMs Clearly and promptly communicates any issues of concern related to the work environment and/or clinical practice to the DON Gippsland Southern Health Service and CEO Collaborates and participates with other members of the healthcare team, and the individual/group in decision making. Maintains good public relations with client's relatives, friends and the community Liaise with relevant members of the health care team to support the individual s rights to change and/or refuse care and to ensure the delivery of quality health care P.I. 6 Continuous Improvement Demonstrate commitment, participate and contribute to quality improvement programs and other facility activities to meet Service/Accreditation Standards Participate and contribute to occupational health and safety activities to ensure a safe work environment for clients, staff and visitors. Participation in ensuring that the Organisation develops and maintains quality assurance systems whereby the Organisation has an overriding philosophy of continuous improvement. Participates in ensuring that the Health Care facilities achieve and maintain their Accreditation to comply with the State and Commonwealth Health authorities. Collection of data pertaining to adverse advents, analysing data and compiling reports, to formulate change, if and where necessary. Ensure Occupational Health and Safety audits are carried out and reported on. Ensure OH & S incident reports are correctly completed and that appropriate action has been taken to prevent further incidence of same or similar occurring. Carry out appropriate performances to identify potential hazards within the ward area. Make recommendations for new equipment purchases, & organise appropriate training were necessary.
