4 Medico-Legal Experience Legal Training I have been registered with the Law Society as an Expert Witness for the past 15 years and regularly provide reports to Solicitors and other instructing agencies. My main areas of expertise are: Post Traumatic Stress Disorders General Adult Psychiatry Probate / Wills and Memory Disorders Patients with dementia requiring opinions on their testamentary capacity and other issues of memory problems. Medical Negligence At the request of Solicitors and also reviewing clinical notes at the request of Health Authorities. Medical Negligence cases are in the field of psychiatry dealing with the problems of management or prescription of antidepressants and psychotropic drugs and other issues relating to detention under the Mental Health Act. Employment/ Work Related Stress I have had wide experience in both providing reports and treatment of individuals subjected to severe work related stress and Back to Work Assessments. Asylum Seekers / Refugees and their Mental health In the last three years I have had regular requests from Solicitors and other agencies for their clients who have been subject to effects of torture, mass Human Right violations and refugee s trauma and provided appropriate psychiatric reports dealing with appropriate diagnosis and recommendations made for treatment Racial Abuse & Psychiatric Consequences I have been requested by the Commission for Racial Equality to provide psychiatric report for clients who have been subjected to severe racial abuse and developing psychiatric injury. 4

5 Medical Legal Training I have received training regularly both as an Expert Witness and a Single Expert Witness. The training involved the writing of medical reports as well as giving evidence in Court. I have organised lectures in my own Trust on the subject of medical/legal aspects of psychiatry. Defendant and Plaintiff Work As Expert Witness and Single Expert Witness I have been instructed as Expert Witness for the plaintiff and defendant. The ratio of plaintiff to defendant is about 70 to 30%. Being a Single Expert Witness I tend to receive joint instructions from both parties. Continued Professional Development & Training I have attended courses on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) organised by the European Society of Traumatic Studies. I regularly attend seminars and training sessions to ensure that I maintain a high level of continued development, which exceeds the required levels of Continuous Professional Development as required by the General Medical Counsel.
