They can be located at: or Good Luck Annie Grogan INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIPS Listed below are the scholarships that are available to children of employees of these companies. Citgo Scholarship: Seniors who are children of Citgo employees or retirees may apply. Applicant must have a minimum 3.2 GPA. Scholarship Value is $8,000. Application must be obtained from Citgo. Conoco/Phillips Scholarship: Seniors who are children of Conoco employees and retirees may apply. Application must be obtained from Conoco/Phillips. Dyn-McDermott Scholarship: Senior whose parent is an employee may apply. Application must be obtained from Dyn-McDermott. Firestone Tire and Rubber Scholarships: Students whose parent is an employee of Firestone may apply. Application must be obtained from the Firestone personnel office. PPG Scholarship: Senior whose parent is an employee may apply. Application must be obtained from PPG. Sasol Scholarship: Senior whose parent is an employee of Sasol. Applications must be obtained from Sasol. Westlake Chemical Scholarship: Senior whose parent is an employee may apply. Applications must be obtained from Westlake Chemical.

2 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS Most of our state supported universities choose their recipients from outstanding high school graduates who file an application with the individual university, complete ACT testing by October or December of their senior year with a minimum composite score of 25, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students should have ACT scores sent directly to colleges. Application forms can be obtained from the counselor s office or from the university s scholarship and testing office. Lady of the Lake Franciscan Scholars* Awarded each year to five incoming freshmen who demonstrate service and leadership abilities as well as competitiveness. Must have a 3.5 GPA or better and a 22 ACT score. An essay is required. Louisiana College Scholarships: Seniors having an ACT composite of at least 25 or SAT total of 1150 and who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in academic subjects are eligible to apply. Persons meeting the criteria will be competing for the following scholarships: Louisiana College Top 20 Scholars and Presidential Scholars LSU Academic Scholarship Applications and the Application for Admission must be submitted by NOVEMBER 1 ST for priority consideration. LSU Alumni Scholarship: 100 students are selected on the basis of grades plus ACT and/or National Merit Selection Index scores. ACT scores should be 31 or better. To apply, students must complete scholarship and admissions applications, an essay, and a list of activities and awards. LSU Chancellor s Leadership Scholarship* Each year LSU awards the Chancellor s Leadership Scholarship to approximately 100 entering freshmen. Applicants must demonstrate excellent leadership skills and possess a commendable high school academic record, and must be nominated by the high school. Interested students should see the senior counselor to be considered for this award. LSU-Delta Chi Tiger Leaders Scholarship* Awarded to a graduating high school male who plans to attend LSU. Amount: $1,000 LSU Honor Scholarships: Awarded to 500 students who are either a finalist or semifinalist in National Merit Scholarship Program or have an ACT composite of at least 26 with an A average in English and Math. To apply, students must complete applications, an essay, and a list of activities and awards. LSU Jared Rachel Memorial Scholarship-Phi Kappa Psi* Awarded to a high school male that who will attend LSU in the fall following high school graduation. Selection based on GPA, community involvement and leadership. Amount: $500 LSU LA-STEM Research Scholars Program* This program was developed to increase the number of underrepresented students seeking (Ph.D.) degrees in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Students must have a GPA and a minimum ACT score of 24. Applicant must be nominated by their high school based on academic excellence and extraordinary potential for scholarship success. Interested students should see the senior counselor to be considered for this award. Amount: Valued at over $2,000/year. LSU Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship* Male high school student entering college. The criteria considered for this award is academics, leadership, athletics, and community service. The amount of the award is $1,000. LSU Valedictorian Scholarship: Students who are certified as valedictorian by their high school. Student must have a 4.0 or higher GPA. Louisiana Tech: Scholarships are offered through the General Scholarship program as well as scholarships in each of the five colleges: Administration and Business, Applied and Natural Sciences, Education, Engineering and Science, and Liberal Arts. Scholarship and Admission applications are due by DECEMBER 1 ST. McNeese Academic Scholarship Applications and the Application for Admission must be submitted by DECEMBER 1 ST for priority consideration.

3 MSU Board of Supervisors Academic Scholarships: Awarded to outstanding LA high school graduates based on a combination of high school grades and ACT/SAT scores. Scholarships are $2,800(subject to change) per academic year. McNeese Com-STEM Scholarship* Eligibility requirements for this award include achieving a high score on the ACT/SAT, earning an excellent high school grade point average and pursuing the associate or bachelor s degree in STEM disciplines at McNeese. MSU Distinguished Achievement Award: Available to incoming freshmen who have achieved academic and leadership success. The award is typically $500-$1,500 per year (subject to change). MSU Enrollment Management Scholarship: Available to first-time McNeese attendees. Selection is based on GPA, ACT, class rank, and/or other qualities which demonstrate the potential for success at the college level. MSU H.C. Drew Foundation Scholarships: Awarded to students who major in one of the following disciplines: Accounting, Ag Sciences, Chemistry, Clinical Lab Science, Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Finance, Teacher Education, Engineering, Nursing, Nutrition and Family Studies, Paralegal Studies, Biological Sciences with a Premedicine Concentration, and Special Education. Selection is made based on a combination of high school grades and ACT/SAT scores (subject to funding). McNeese Honors College Scholarship: Applicants must have at least a 3.4 GPA and 27 on ACT. The award value: Up to $34,784. McNeese Orthopedic Disabilities Scholarship* Applicant must have a physician verified orthopedic disability, acceptable academic credentials, and applied for McNeese admissions. Standardized test scores, grade point average, courses completed, extracurricular activities/participation and leadership positions/potential. Nicholls University Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors Education Foundation Scholarship* Awarded to a high school senior residing in Louisiana who is planning to pursue a career in surveying through the Geomatics program at Nicholls University. Amount: $4,000 Southeastern Louisiana University Leadership Scholarship* Graduating high school students planning to attend Southeastern Louisiana University, has a 2.5 GPA or above, has demonstrated strong leadership in their high school career, and plans to join a student organization at the college level and become an active member are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Amount: $500 for the first four semesters with an option for continued scholarships in later semesters. Southern University Alumni Federation Lake Charles Chapter Book Stipend Award* The Lake Charles Chapter of the Southern University Alumni Federation awards a book stipend of $500 annually to a graduating high school senior. Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA or above, an ACT score of at least 20, and plan to attend Southern University in the fall following high school graduation. Sowela Technical Community College Scholarships: High school seniors that plan to attend Sowela Technical Community College after graduating from high school should contact the Financial Aid Director in the Financial Aid office. Tulane Legislative Scholarship* Each Louisiana state senator and representative nominates one scholarship recipient each year who meets or exceeds the following criteria: permanent resident of Louisiana and graduate of a Louisiana high school, 27 or higher composite ACT, ranked in top 25% of the graduating class, and admitted to a full-time undergraduate division of Tulane University. To learn more about each legislator s process for awarding his/her scholarship, contact your state legislature and provide a copy of your resume along with a cover letter expressing your interest in the scholarship. You may access legislator contact information at The value of the scholarship changes with tuition each year. Receipt of the scholarship one year does not guarantee receipt of the scholarship in subsequent years. Tulane Valedictorian Scholarship: Students who are certified as a valedictorian by their high school. The applicant must have a 4.0 GPA or higher.

4 GRANTS, LOANS, AND STATE SCHOLARSHIPS The federal financial aid application is used to apply for grants, loans, and the work-study program at colleges. On-line applications are available after January 1 st and require the parent to complete their income tax return for the preceding tax year in order to complete portions of the application (although income tax returns do not have to be filed until April 15 th ). The state of Louisiana also uses the federal financial aid application form to apply for the following TOPS scholarships (Application deadline for these programs is July 1 st ): TOPS-OPPORTUNITY: MINIMUM 2.5 Core Curriculum GPA, MINIMUM 20 ACT COMPOSITE, and 19 CORE UNITS. PAYS LOUISIANA PUBLIC TUITION. TOPS-PERFORMANCE: MINIMUM 3.0 Core Curriculum GPA, MINIMUM 23 ACT COMPOSITE, and 19 CORE UNITS. PAYS LOUISIANA PUBLIC TUITION PLUS $400. TOPS-HONORS: MINIMUM 3.0 Core Curriculum GPA, MINIMUM 27 ACT COMPOSITE, and 19 CORE UNITS. PAYS LOUISIANA PUBLIC TUITION PLUS $800. TOPS-TECHNICAL: MINIMUM 2.5 Core Curriculum GPA, MINIMUM 20 ACT COMPOSITE, and 17 CORE UNITS (OPTION I) or 19 CORE UNITS (OPTION II). PAYS LOUISIANA PUBLIC TUITION ONLY. Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship: Students that plan to major in Forestry, Wildlife or Marine Science majors and who have at least a 2.5 GPA and 20 ACT may apply for this scholarship at Amount: $1,000 annual award up to $7,000 FREE SCHOLARSHIP SEARCHES Students at Sulphur High are encouraged to complete a profile for at least one free scholarship searches. FastWeb Sallie Mae Scholarships.com Peterson s College Quest PRIVATE SCHOLARSHIPS AES Engineering Scholarship: Student must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to the following questions: What are your dreams for your future? When you look back on your life in thirty years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? Submit essay to: scholarships@aesengineers.com. Do not send any other documents with essay. Be sure to include your full name, the name of your high school, and your plans for next year. Amount: $500 Al s Formal Wear Scholarship: Two scholarships valued at $1,000 are awarded each year. To apply visit Entries are accepted October through May. Horatio Alger Association Louisiana Scholarship: Awarded to 50 high school seniors who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. 5 American Cancer Society College Scholarship* Applicant must have had a diagnosis of cancer before age 19 and have a GPA of at least 2.5. Entries are accepted from November January. American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship: Students are required to read an essay about automatic fire sprinklers, then take a ten-question multiple-choice test in which each question answered correctly earns the student one entry into a drawing for one of ten $2,000 scholarships. To apply go to Entries are accepted from September April. American Legion Oratorical Scholarship: Each year students are given the opportunity to participate in this speech competition. Winners can earn up to $18,000 in scholarships. Social Studies teachers receive information packets on this program in the fall of each year. See your Social Studies teacher for more information and to apply. Gus Archie Scholarship: Awarded to an outstanding student who plans to enter a university and pursue an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering. The recipient will receive $6,000 per year for up to four years. To apply go to The Art Institutes Scholarships: Awards scholarships to eligible students that are interested in pursuing a degree in the creative and applied arts. To apply go to Associated Grocers Sam S. Politz Scholarship* Awarded to a high school senior who will enroll in a college or university, has a financial need, scholarship ability, and good character. Amount: $8,000 AXA Achievement Scholarship: Students that are active in the community, have led a project that benefits others, or have overcome personal challenges should apply for this scholarship. To apply go to Amount: $10,000 and $25,000 AXA Achievement Community Scholarship: Students that are active in the community, have led a project that benefits others, or have overcome personal challenges should apply for this scholarship. To apply go to Amount: $2,000 Beauregard Electric (BECi) Scholarship* Offered to students who reside on BECi service lines. Must have a 2.0 GPA. Entries are accepted January March. Amount: $1,500 Best Buy Scholarship: Awarded to eligible high school seniors with solid grades and community service or work experience. Apply online at or Entries accepted December February. Amount: $1,000 BigSun Scholarship: High school athletes are eligible for this award regardless of which sport they are participating in. Applicants must submit a short (500 words or less) essay describing why you should be the winner of this award. Submit essay to athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com. Amount: $500 Brian Bordelon Memorial Scholarship* LANtec of Louisiana offers a Louisiana high school senior a computer training scholarship. To apply, students must write a letter and complete an application package. Amount: $9,000 Buick Achievers Scholarship: This scholarship is for students who are leaders in both the classroom and their communities, but who may not have the financial means to attend college. Applicants must plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design, or business. To apply go to Amount: $2,000 - $25,000. BK Scholars: Burger King employees and children of Burger King employees are eligible to apply for this scholarship. To apply go to Entries are accepted November January. Amount: $1,000 - $50,000 Mac Burns/West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital Foundation Scholarship* Applicant must be planning to pursue a career in the medical field and will attend McNeese State University. An essay is required. Amount: $1,200

6 Robert C. Byrd Scholarship* Recipient selected on the basis of demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular achievement. Must have a 3.5 GPA and a 23 ACT score. Amount: $6,000 ($1,500/year for up to 4 years) John Cannon Memorial Scholarship: Created to honor a former president of The National Academy of Television Arts and Science Association and is awarded to a college-bound applicant who has demonstrated exceptional talent as a creator of video programming as well as outstanding academic achievement and potential for success in a highly competitive field. To apply go to Amount: $40,000 ($10,000/year for up to 4 years) Chase LA SMART Start Scholarship: To qualify for consideration, students must apply to and be accepted by a four-year college or university in Louisiana, have a 2.5 GPA and an ACT score of at least 19. Chester Daigle Jazz Music Scholarship* Student must be a District V senior jazz musician who plans to major in music and must have a 2.5 GPA. Amount: $1,000 Ruby J. Darensbourg Cook Memorial Scholarship* Awarded to a graduating high school senior interested in obtaining a degree in Education at an accredited Louisiana college or university. Amount: $4,000 ($500/semester for up to 8 semesters) Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Scholarship* The Lake Charles Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service sorority, gives a $2000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from its service area of Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, and Allen Parish. This scholarship will be awarded based on academic performance, community service, and financial need. Student must be a resident in Calcasieu, Cameron, Jeff Davis, and Allen Parish, a graduating senior, entering a four-year university or college as a full-time freshman in the fall. Delta Tech Scholarships* Delta Tech offers several scholarships each year to high school seniors planning to attend Delta Tech. Visit the Delta Tech website at for more details. Dixie Youth Scholarships* 1. Bernie Varnadore Scholarship: Applicant must demonstrate strong community leadership, financial need, and must have participated in a Dixie Youth Baseball Program. 2. Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarship: Applicant must be a high school senior, must have participated in a Dixie Youth Baseball Program when twelve years of younger, and must demonstrate a financial need. ERCA Community Contribution Scholarship* The ERCA Community Contribution Scholarship Competition is open to all high school students who are legal residents of the United States. Applicants must have recognized a need or problem in their community, have determined a way to address this need or solve this problem, have developed an action plan, and have worked to put the action plan in place so as to address the need or solve the problem. The action plan must be a unique project developed by the student, not a project developed by an established group of which the student is a member. Amount: $1,000 ESA Foundation Scholarships: The ESA Foundation offers several scholarships through its program. 7 Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS): This is a need-based merit scholarship for undergraduate study. Applicants must be African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, or Hispanic American. Apply online at GE-Regan Foundation Scholarship: In honor of the legacy and character of President Ronal Reagan, this program annually rewards up to 20 college-bound seniors who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with renewable scholarships. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or above and must be nominated by the school principal. Interested students should see the senior counselor to be considered for this award. Amount: $40,000 ($10,000/year for up to 4 years) William Jamile Hassien Memorial Scholarship* Applicant must be a graduating senior, have a 3.0 GPA, and participated in a least two sports during high school years. Amount: $1,000 Mildred D. Higgins High School Scholarship: (LASFAA) will award at least four $500 scholarships to Louisiana Students planning to attend member institutions. Applicants must apply online at One entry per person. Imagine America Scholarship: For students that are considering attending a technical, vocational or career education school after graduating from high school. Must have a 2.5 GPA. To apply go to Amount: $1,000 John J. Johnson, II Memorial Foundation Scholarship* Applicant must have high moral standing, a 3.0 GPA or above, and must participate in extracurricular activities. KFC Colonel s Scholars: Applicant must be a high school senior with a financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit, have a 2.5 GPA or above, and plan to attend a college or university in Louisiana and earn a bachelor s degree. Apply online at Amount: Up to $20,000 Kids Chance Scholarship: This program provides scholarships to the children of Louisiana workers who have been killed or permanently and totally disabled in an accident compensable under a state or federal Worker s Compensation Act or law. To apply go to Amount: $500 - $3,000 Knights of Columbus C.Y.L.A. Scholarship* Student must be a high school senior that is of the Catholic faith and exemplifies leadership and Catholic values. Amount: State winners will receive $4,000. Susan G. Komen Scholarship: Must be a college-bound high school student who has lost a parent or guardian to breast cancer or who has their own breast cancer diagnosis. Apply at Amount: $40,000 ($10.000/year for up to 4 years) LASAFAP Scholarship* Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who is planning to major in education and has a financial need. An essay is required. Amount: $1,000 LHSAA Scholarships* Several different scholarships are given at the end of the year. See the counselor for guidelines. Applications are only available online at LMSA Scholarship* The Louisiana Middle School Association will award a $1000 scholarship to three high school seniors entering the field of education. Louisiana AFL-CIO Scholarship* Applicant must be a high school senior, a Louisiana resident, and the child of a member of the Louisiana AFL-CIO. Selection is based upon essay. Amount: $1,000 The Louisiana Housing Council NAHRO Annual Scholarship Program: Provides scholarship opportunities to resident high school seniors residing in or who otherwise receive direct housing benefits from one of the member agencies of the Council. The Louisiana Housing Council (LHC) may award up to ten scholarships. Either one $4,000 or two $3,000 scholarships may be awarded with each payable over four years. 8 Louisiana JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Program: Each year, this foundation grants $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. Apply at Louisiana Juvenile Officers Association Scholarship* Applicant must be a college-bound high school senior. Selection is based on academic performance, financial need, career goals, extracurricular activities, and excellence of overall performance. Amount: $500 Louisiana Life Safety and Security Association Youth Scholarship: Applicants must be high school seniors who are sons or daughters of active duty law enforcement and fire service personnel. Louisiana Municipal Clerk s Association Scholarship* Applicant must be interested in the Public Administration/Political Science field, have a 3.0 GPA or above and an ACT score of 21 or above. An essay is required. Louisiana Vocational Rehabilitation Services* Students who have physical or mental disabilities (learning disability, diabetes, scoliosis, emotional problems, etc.) can qualify for funding for education at either college or vocational school. Louisiana Rural Water Association Scholarship* For students who reside on a water system that is a member of the LRWA. Applicant must have an interest in pursuing a career in the water or wastewater field. Louisiana Young Bankers Scholarship: Applicant s parents must be employed by a bank in Louisiana, have a 3.0 GPA or above, will attend a Louisiana college or university and major in the college of business. To apply go to Amount: $1,000 McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship: Applicant must plan to attend a four-year college, own and operate a genuine business and have at least one paid employee. Carol Meyer Memorial Scholarship* Applicants must be a high school senior who has expressed an interest in pursuing a career in mathematics or mathematics education. Student must have a 2.5 GPA or above and a 17 ACT score or above. Amount: $500 National Association of University Women Scholarship* The Lake Charles Branch of the National Association of University Women offer a scholarship to a graduating senior girl who has a 2.5 GPA or better and plans to enter a four-year college or university as a full-time student in the fall after high school graduation. Amount: $1,500 National Association of University Women Book Stipend* The Lake Charles Branch of this association offers a book stipend to a graduating high school senior (girl or boy) with a 2.0 GPA or better. Amount: $250 National Pan-Hellenic Council Book Stipend* The Lake Charles Chapter of this council awards a book stipend to a graduating high school senior that plans to attend an accredited college upon high school graduation, has a 2.5 GPA or better and a minimum ACT score of 20. Amount: $500 Navy Scholars Program: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, 17 years old by September 1 of their first year in college, high school graduate or equivalency certificate, Navy Physical Qualification, ACT of 22 in English and a 21 in Math. To apply visit Amount: Up to $180,000 NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award: Young entrepreneurs who are graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for this award. Outstanding Students of America Scholarships: The Outstanding Students of America Scholarship is open to high school seniors who have a minimum 3.0 GPA. To be considered for this award, you must be able to demonstrate outstanding commitment to community and school activities. Additionally, you must submit a 250- word essay highlighting your accomplishments and reasons why you feel that you deserve or need this scholarship. Amount: $1,000

9 Papa John s Scholarship* Must be a high school senior at time of application. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and attend a high school in the immediate delivery area of a participating Papa John's restaurant. Amount: $1,000 Prudential Spirit of Community Award: Students that have made a difference through volunteering over the past year are eligible to apply for this award. Amount: $1,000 - $5,000 Dr. Ulric Pryce Memorial Scholarship* Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and plan to attend college. Amount: $2,000 Questbridge Scholarships: Questbridge sponsors a National College Match program which helps outstanding low-income students gain admission and full four-year scholarships to leading colleges. Amount: $500 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Scholarship: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who excels in academics, athletics, and community service. Scott Memorial Scholarship* Applicant must be a graduating high school senior with a 2.5 GPA or above, will attend an accredited four-year college or university full-time, has demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities. Amount: $2,500 Shell Process Technology Scholarship: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior who plans to enroll in a two-year Process Technology degree program.
