4 Azad Rahimov Minister of Youth & Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan chief Executive, Baku 205 European Games Operations Committee Azerbaijan is honoured to be hosting the first ever European Games and I am delighted to welcome the international press to what will be the biggest sporting event in our country s history. Coverage generated by the international press during the Games will be crucial in sharing this inaugural event with a worldwide audience, and it is our duty and desire to provide members of the press with everything they need to tell the story of the Games through words and pictures. A great deal of planning is being undertaken by our experienced and dedicated team to ensure the Baku 205 European Games will be organised at the highest level. I am fully confident that we will provide the athletes, spectators, fans and media with the best possible facilities to enjoy this historic sporting spectacle. We are determined to be innovative and sustainable, to try new concepts, and to deliver a firstclass event of which the whole of Europe will be proud. With more than 6,000 athletes from the National Olympic Committees of Europe competing across 9 sports, the Baku 205 European Games will be a catalyst for economic, sporting and social development across Azerbaijan. The Games will be of great benefit to Azerbaijanis of all ages across the country, but particularly to the young people of our nation. It will create positive memories and an excellent legacy of sporting venues to inspire this generation and future generations to take-up and continue to play sport throughout their lives. 5 Introduction Welcome to the Baku 205 European Games! The Press and Photo Guide to the Baku 205 European Games provides an overview of the services and facilities that will be available to the accredited written and photographic press and non rights holding broadcasters during the Games. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Each competition venue will have a Venue Media Centre Help Desk and the Media Village will have a Press Information Desk where our staff will be happy to assist you. Please note that all of the information in this guide was current as of the time the guide was published. It is possible that some times and dates have changed. We hope you enjoy your time in Baku at the inaugural European Games. 6 History of the European Games The European Games were created at the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) on 8 December 202 in Rome, Italy. At this General Assembly the right to host the inaugural edition was awarded to the city of Baku, Azerbaijan. The European Games is a multi-sport event for athletes from all 50 of the National Olympic Committees in Europe and will be held every four years. The Games are owned, co-organised, and regulated by the European Olympic Committees. The Baku 205 European Games Operations Committee (BEGOC) was established in 202 and is chaired by the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva. The CEO is the Minister of Youth and Sport, Mr. Azad Rahimov, and the COO is Mr. Simon Clegg. 4 Baku 205 European Games

7 Press Operations Team The Press Operations Department is responsible for the planning, preparation and provision of services and facilities for the accredited written and photographic press, as well as non rights holding broadcasters, so that they can operate efficiently during the Baku 205 European Games. What s New In Baku One of the key objectives of the European Games is to incorporate innovation into the planning. Press Operations has embraced this objective and is proud to implement the following innovations during the Games: I-Zone. Instead of Press Mixed Zones and Media Conference Rooms in the competition venues, there will be an I-Zone (Interview Zone) for postcompetition athlete interviews. See page. News Service on Website. All information produced by our Games News Service will be available for free on the Baku 205 website (baku205.com) in the media section. This information will be available for accredited and non-accredited media. See page 202. Free Internet. Free cabled and Wi-Fi internet connections will be provided in every Media Workroom, Press Tabled Tribune and most Photo Positions. See page 205. Free Mi-Fi on Buses. Free Mi-Fi will be available for up to 0 people on each bus of the T-All transport system. See page 207. Filming in I-Zone. Non-rightsholders will be able to bring television cameras into the competition venues and film interviews in the I-Zone. See page -2. Limited Printed Results. Very few copies of results will be printed during the Games but key reports will be available for download from the website. See page 203. One access zone. 8 Results Trees. Easy-to-read, large results trees will be available in selected venues to follow the competition. See page 204. ENR Camera Operators. The ENR credential will only apply to television camera operators. All other staff from a non-rightsholding organisations will be issued either E or EP accreditation. See page 97. NOC-led Athlete Biographies. Our in-house research team has worked closely with each NOC to provide athlete biographies. See page 203. Legacy. Press Operations has fully integrated international and Azerbaijani staff for the Games. Every international Venue Media Manager and Venue Photo Supervisor will be supported by an Azerbaijani deputy. This integration will leave a human legacy of Azerbaijani staff trained in Press Operations and able to organise future events. He or she is an experienced media manager at the international level of sport. Each Venue Media Manager has an Azerbaijani deputy to assist with Azerbaijani press and manage the I-Zone. 12 VMC opening hours - VMCs will open to the press on the first day of training if training is scheduled at that location or two days before the start of competition. - OPEN: VMCs will open two hours before competition begins. - CLOSE: VMCs will close up to three hours after competition ends. For competitions with sessions that finish after 23:00 the VMC will close no later than 0:00. Specific hours of operation can be found in each sport section. Press Zones in Venues An innovation for the Baku European Games is the consolidation of the traditional zone 4 (press) and zone 5 (broadcast) in the competition venues. During the Games, there will be one media zone (zone 5) which allows access to the following areas: Venue Media Centre, Media Workroom, Press Tribune, Commentary Positions, I-Zone, Photo Positions (with photo bib only), Photo File Area, and Media Lounge. Media Workroom Media Workrooms will have cabled internet ports and European standard power sockets (220v) available at each workstation. Wi-Fi will also be available in every workroom. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and an area will be designated for photographers. Media Workrooms will be equipped with televisions broadcasting the official host broadcaster channel for that venue. Printing and copying facilities will also be available. Other services available at each Media Workroom: - Help desk for general information including competition details and transportation schedules - Refreshment area (free tea, coffee, water, soft drinks, and snacks) - Lockers for temporary storage - Language services support 0 Baku 205 European Games

13 I-Zone One of the innovations introduced at the Baku 205 European Games will be the interview zone or I-Zone. The I-Zone replaces the Press Mixed Zone and Media Conference Room at a venue. There will be no change to the Broadcast Mixed Zone and athletes will still be required to pass through the Broadcast Mixed Zone. The I-Zone will be a comfortable area in or near the Venue Media Centre where media can interview athletes and coaches in a more relaxed atmosphere. Interviews can be one-on-one or in a group. Press wanting to interview a specific athlete in the I-Zone should make a request to Press Operations staff. Press Operations will escort the athlete from the Broadcast Mixed Zone to the I-Zone. If no journalist requests an interview with an athlete, that athlete is free to return to the changing room. Press Operations will request every gold medallist and every Azerbaijani athlete to go to the I-Zone for an interview. Our news team will interview key athletes and publish those interviews on the Games News Service (see page 202). While athletes are not required to come to the I-Zone, each team press attache will encourage their athletes to participate. There is no time limit, within reason, on the length of interviews in the I-Zone and there is no guarantee that interviews will be exclusive. Staff are available in the Media Workroom, the Press Tribunes and the Photo Positions. Press Operations staff will escort the athlete to the I-Zone immediately following competition. 14 Notes All gold medalists and Azerbaijani athletes will be brought to the I-Zone for interviews. 2 Non-rightholders (ENR) are welcome to film in the I-Zone. 3 Photographers (EP) can use the I-Zone if they do not disturb any interviews. 4 There is no time limit for the interview. 5 There is no guarantee for an exclusive interview but all interviews should end no later than 45 minutes after competition. 6 Press Operations staff are available in the I-Zone for assistance. 2 Baku 205 European Games

15 Media Lounge Near each Venue Media Centre there will be a media lounge where food and other refreshments will be available for purchase. The selection of items available includes sandwiches, salads, paninis, cakes and pastries, confectionary and snacks. The media lounge will be open two hours before competition and close two hours after competition; the user-pay facility will close one hour after competition. Free tea, coffee, water, soft drinks, and snacks will be available in or near each Media Workroom. Press Tribunes Each competition venue will provide a dedicated seating area with unobstructed views of the Field of Play for the press to watch competition. Both tabled and non-tabled Press Tribunes will be available. Tabled positions in the Press Tribunes will have free cabled internet ports and two European standard power sockets (220V) at every seat. Wi-Fi internet access will be available both in the tabled and non-tabled tribunes. Seats in the Press Tribune are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
