5 Relocation Guidelines One of the benefits of Utica s accelerated nursing program is the ability to finish a four-year baccalaureate curriculum in 16 months. However, while theory courses are hosted online, the program requires a lot of face time to be successful. If you live more than 60 to 75 miles away from our accelerated nursing site, we recommend relocating to maximize your success in school. Here are 3 reasons why it makes sense to relocate: 1. Success relies on program elements that must be completed in person 2. Clinical rotations are determined using the site address as a starting point 3. Central New York winters can make a commute longer than other times of the year

6 In-person features of the program Simulation lab practice: 1 day a week Average session lasts 3 hours Many students schedule additional time after class to improve competency Clinical rotations: 1 day a week Average shift is at least 6 hours long Rotations can last 7 to 13 weeks Placements are scheduled throughout central New York including Syracuse, Utica and Rome Proctored exams: 1 day a week Exams must be given in a proctored setting Exams can last up 2 to 3 hours depending on material covered

11 Fast Facts on Paying for Nursing School Knowing how you ll pay for school can be an important factor when choosing where you re going to live. Here are five tips to navigating the financial aid process at Utica College: 1. File your FAFSA. 2. Review your SAR. 3. Fill out a TAP form. 4. Research payment options. 5. Make payment arrangements. 12 5 Steps to Financial Aid 1. File your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA determines eligibility for federal aid, including federal direct Stafford loans and federal direct PLUS (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Dependent Students) loans. New applicants should file a FAFSA by February 15th. You can use estimated income information to get the process started. Complete yours at and include Utica s code:

13 5 Steps to Financial Aid 2. Review your SAR (Student Aid Report). Your SAR provides basic information about your eligibility for federal student aid. It also contains the answers you gave on your FAFSA. The school(s) you listed on the form will use this information to determine your eligibility for financial aid. For more about your SAR, go to

14 5 Steps to Financial Aid 3. Fill out a Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Form. If you live in New York State, you ll want to fill out a TAP form. TAP is intended to offset tuition costs at New York colleges and schools. To be eligible, you must be a New York State resident for 12 consecutive months before your intended start term and attend an eligible school or college located in New York State. 15 5 Steps to Financial Aid 4. Research payment options. Our accelerated nursing program results in a bachelor s degree. This means you re still bound to the loan limits of your first undergraduate degree. If you haven t reached your aggregate limit, you may be eligible to use federal Stafford loans to cover part of your balance. You may also investigate scholarship money or loans from private lenders or your local credit union. If you have a remaining balance due after your loans are considered, you may enroll in Utica s payment plan ( you can sign up through your student account).

16 5 Steps to Financial Aid 5. Make payment arrangements. Accepted students should expect to receive their financial aid packages within two weeks of the Office of Student Financial Services receiving a valid FAFSA. Financial aid will disburse to your account approximately one month after classes begin. Once the money has paid, you will receive a refund of any excess funds. Full payment or payment arrangements are due four business days before classes begin. If you choose to enroll in Utica s payment plan, first payment is due four business days before classes begin each term payments due approximately every four weeks.
