2 Turkish cosmetics sector has being gained a considerable competitive power thanks to its continuously improving R&D and production abilities. Optimal quality and cost alternatives are provided by the sector both for domestic and foreign buyers. An overview of the distribution of trade among countries and the structure of EU cosmetics sector published every year by COLIPA (European Union Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfume Manufacturers Association) leads us to think that while the overall yearly increase rate is around %8-9, the higher rates of increase in our exports in the recent years point out the enhancement of competitiveness of our products in terms of quality and price. Depending on the economic development in Turkey, both production and consumption of the cosmetic and personal care products are also increasing rapidly. Soaps hold the greatest share in the sector product range. Other items included in the sector product range are hair care products, shaving products, depilatories, bath and shower products, soaps, lip and eye make-up materials, deodorants and antiperspirants, perfumes, eau de colognes, skincare and baby care products. In the recent few years, natural soaps, natural shampoos and other natural products have started to draw attention and interest in the sector. Particularly, natural soaps are produced by numerous small-size firms all over Turkey and their products are demanded in foreign markets. The demand for the famous laurel and olive oil soaps is increasing day by day, and an export-oriented sector has emerged. The Turkish soap producers have created their own brands in the domestic market and have been successful also in the foreign markets with their brands. The Turkish cosmetic and personal care products industry owns the capacity and technical skills required for production in global standards in terms of quality. A great many of firms have obtained GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), ISO 9000 Quality System Certificates and ISO Certificate. The Turkish cosmetic and personal care products manufacturers are closely following up the recent international and national developments on environment as well.
