1 WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY UNION CORPORATION JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Reports To: Director of Marketing Rhatigan Student Center Director, Rhatigan Student Center Date: December 21, 1993 Revised Date: November, 2011 Approved By: POSITION SUMMARY Under general direction, designs, implements, and facilitates the WSU Rhatigan Student Center s (WSU Union Corporation) marketing and public relations program, including development of a comprehensive marketing plan for Rhatigan Student Center (RSC), a core marketing and public relations mission. Additional responsibilities involve developing a marketing budget, establishing and implementing marketing plans for new projects and existing services, project execution and management, implementation and maintenance of marketing controls, development of online marketing tools, web site development and maintenance, and social media marketing. Responsible for conducting market research and analysis to determine market requirements for existing and future customers. Oversees the Graphics Department. Collaborates with various university entities including University Relations, to coordinate advertising, news coverage of events, services, and feature articles about the RSC. Ensures adherence to the university s standards, guidelines and policies. Coordinates with Rhatigan Student Center departments to ensure a consistent public relations approach throughout the operation. Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service and the student union philosophy. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.0 Designs, implements, and facilitates Rhatigan Student Center s marketing and public relations program. 1.1 Leads the overall marketing effort for Rhatigan Student Center and collaborates with RSC departments on specific marketing needs. 1.2 Develops and implements a comprehensive marketing plan for the RSC. 1.3 Develops a core marketing mission which includes a public relations plan. 1.4 Conducts research and analysis to determine market requirements for existing and future customers. 1.5 Assists, when requested, with the implementation of individual marketing plans for RSC departments.

2 Page Develops a marketing and public relations budget. 2.1 Implements and maintains marketing and public relations controls to track expenditures and make modifications as necessary. 2.2 Delivers marketing and public relations activities within the approved department budget. 3.0 Establishes and implements marketing plans for Rhatigan Student Center on new projects and existing services. 3.1 Develops and proposes RSC marketing strategies for project execution and management, including performance measures to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of projects. Makes recommendations based on such analyses. 3.2 Implements approved marketing strategies and measures efficiency and effectiveness of these projects. 3.3 Tracks, analyzes and reports on status of RSC marketing plans, programs and budgets. Prepares weekly reports for directors meetings. 4.0 Maintains Rhatigan Student Center s Web presence. 4.1 Enhances RSC s website and content by researching strategies and techniques to enhance and support RSC s overall marketing objectives. 4.2 Develops an internet marketing strategy for the RSC, including global e marketing, using online marketing tools such as social media, search engine optimization, pay per click services, multi lingual search, and online video marketing. 4.3 Utilizes advanced Web analytics and multivariate testing to refine website presence for usability. 4.4 Develops and implements a public relations plan for the RSC, including online public relations efforts for brand and reputation management. 5.0 Conducts market research and analysis to determine marketing requirements for existing and future prospects. 5.1 Conducts market research to define market segments of populations that are potential RSC customers. Provides scientifically valid and reliable research. 5.2 Conducts customer satisfaction surveys. 5.3 Develops and maintains a marketing database which includes defined and appropriate prospect information.

3 Page Collaborates, where appropriate, with various university entities, including but not limited to, university relations, admissions, international, graduate, undergraduate, and alumni to assist with efforts to target potential Wichita State University students and guests. 6.1 Promotes Rhatigan Student Center through news coverage of events and services. 6.2 Promotes the RSC through printed materials, media outlets, and online communications, including calendars, brochures, special catalogs, announcements, newsletters, feature articles, radio and television public service announcements, and advertising as permitted. 7.0 Coordinates with Rhatigan Student Center departments to ensure a consistent public relations approach throughout the operation. 7.1 Coordinates and implements a plan to create a positive public image for WSU Union Corporation. 7.2 Provides training to Rhatigan Student Center management and employees about the RSC s message. 7.3 Delivers speeches and presentations, as needed, to educate about the RSC. 7.4 Serves as a liaison between RSC and the media by creating press releases or sponsoring events related to the RSC s image. 8.0 Oversees the Graphics Department. 8.1 Provides direction to the Graphics Supervisor as and when needed. 9.0 Ensures adherence to the university s standards, guidelines and policies. 9.1 Ensures adherence to Wichita State University s Visual Identity Standards, Written Style Guide and other communication policies Performs additional duties as assigned.

4 Page 4 PREREQUISITES: Education: Bachelor s degree in marketing, integrated marketing communications, electronic media, strategic communication, print journalism, or a related discipline. CORE COMPETENCIES: Experience: Minimum five years work experience in marketing and public relations required, including at least two years managing a marketing program or department for an organization. Experience must also include: developing and administering a comprehensive marketing/public relations program, market research, implementing online communications strategies, working with social media, supervising people (either paid staff or volunteers) and public speaking. Knowledge: Knowledge of marketing and public relations fundamentals. Knowledge of social media tools as used for marketing and public relations. Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform via written, oral, social and visual media. Knowledge of graphic design, including but not limited to typography, illustration, photography, book design, advertising, computer graphics, design, and drawing. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows and Mac based computer applications. Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate clearly, both orally, in writing, and including active listening skills and social perceptiveness. Polished presentation and interpersonal skills. Self starter, highly organized with exceptional planning, prioritizing and attention to detail skills. Strong leadership and consensus building skills. Articulate, poised and genuine.

5 Page 5 Abilities: Must be able to express a high level of creativity and flexibility. Demonstrated ability to provide effective supervision. Must be able to work with a wide range of work styles and expectations. Must be able to collaborate, coordinate, delegate and manage activities through a diverse team of people to achieve desired results/deliverables, or project goals. Must be able to exhibit professionalism at all times. Physical: Requires: Manipulating an average of 70 pounds. Extended periods of bending, stooping, standing, and sitting. Working extended hours, including evenings and weekends, when needed. Valid driver s license.
