6 CHOOSE YOUR OWN PATHWAY Whether you are just finishing high school, coming from the workforce or want to supplement prior post-secondary education, George Brown offers a wide range of programs and pathways to meet your needs. Use the chart below to explore your options. What are your current credentials? HIGH SCHOOL COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY WORK EXPERIENCE C and U/M Levels Apply directly to any program below Admissions Assessment 1 Year Certificate (Two semesters) Build hands-on skills for a specific industry and establish a foundation for further education. 2 Year Diploma (Four semesters) You may be able to extend your diploma to an advanced diploma, or bridge into a degree or postgraduate program. U/M Level Only 3 Year Advanced Diploma (Six semesters) (Bridge and Fast-Track options available for University/ College applicants only) You may be able to transfer into a degree program, or enter a postgraduate program. Bachelor s Degree (Bridge and Fast-Track options available for University/ College applicants only) Gain a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to apply what you have learned. 7 DEGREE AND POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS DEGREES WITH DIRECTION Our career-focused bachelor s degrees ensure you ll graduate with the academic credentials and practical work experience employers are looking for. You ll benefit from smaller class sizes, instructors with years of professional experience and field education opportunities that allow you to learn while networking with potential employers. Bachelor of Behaviour Analysis This degree combines philosophy, methodology, and theory with a strong applied learning component to create a comprehensive understanding of behavioural psychology and more specifically, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA). Bachelor of Business Administration (Hospitality) Prepare to succeed in a wide range of hospitality enterprises such as accommodation, meeting and conventions, entertainment and gaming, culinary arts, themed attractions and special events. Bachelor of Commerce (Financial Services) Combine the benefits of an applied, practical education with the theory of a degree. You ll gain the knowledge, skills and real-world experience for a career as an accountant or financial planner. Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership (Regular & Fast-Track) Guide and lead curriculum and pedagogy in licensed child care facilities, and work in partnership with certified teachers in the Full-Day Early Learning Kindergartens. Bachelor of Science (Nursing) This degree meets the entry-to-practice requirements adopted by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Run as a collaboration with Centennial College and Ryerson University, graduates earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson. Bachelor of Technology (Construction Management) This unique degree gives you an education in building and environmental sciences, practical business skills and managerial training. Early Childhood Education (Diploma/Degree) Develop the skills and confidence to work with infants, toddlers, preschool and school-aged children in a variety of childhood education settings. Earn a George Brown diploma and a Ryerson degree. I was the first college student in my family. Everyone was a big university person. I think I ve really changed their perception of college and how good it can be. POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS With more college and university graduates entering the job market, a career-focused postgraduate program is a competitive advantage. In fewer than 12 months, your theoretical learning is enhanced with up-to-the-minute work skills, on-the-job experience and industry connections through field education. 8 HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID What kind of assistance is available? 1 Grants, scholarships, bursaries or awards, where no repayment is typically required. 2 Loans, where repayment is required. 3 Work-study jobs, which provide income earned through work on campus. AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS George Brown College s Awards program recognizes excellence and assists students with the costs of their education through non-repayable scholarships, awards, and bursaries. GBC Awards Identify awards, scholarships and bursaries for which you may be eligible. Once you set up your profile, you can quickly and easily apply online for individual awards. gbcawards.georgebrown.ca Need help? The Student Awards Office helps connect you with scholarships, awards and bursaries. We ll help you determine eligibility and assist with applying. OSAP STUDENT LOANS Who can qualify You must be taking at least 60% of a full-time program, or 40% if you have a registered permanent disability. For up-to-date information about OSAP loans, including repayment conditions, or to apply for a loan, visit the OSAP website at When to apply Your OSAP application should be received at least two months before your classes start to ensure funds are available when school begins. Tanitia Munroe Student, Child and Youth Worker Recipient, Michael Cooke Leadership Award and Jim Turner Scholarship LAST YEAR, GEORGE BROWN STUDENTS RECEIVED MORE THAN $5.5 MILLION IN NON-REPAYABLE AWARDS, SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES TO HELP ACHIEVE THEIR POST-SECONDARY GOALS WORK STUDY PROGRAM This program provides full-time students with part-time jobs on campus. Students locate and apply for their own job through any of the departments (e.g., Athletics, your own Faculty, the Library, etc.). Before beginning work, participants must receive approval from the Financial Assistance Office. Please note that income earned from the Work Study Program must be reported to the Financial Assistance Office and may impact your OSAP funding, either during the current school year or in the future. 30% OFF ONTARIO TUITION GRANT If you re entering a full-time program and have been out of high school for less than four years (or six if you have a permanent disability), you may qualify for a 30% Off Ontario Tuition grant. If you re not in high school, you can request your transcripts as part of your application OR contact your school to request an official transcript be mailed to ontariocolleges.ca (include your application number). Getting involved in extracurricular activities will allow you to develop the people skills employers look for like teamwork, communication and leadership while building new friendships and lasting memories. Our men s and women s varsity sports teams, The Huskies, compete against other Ontario colleges in many team and individual sports. STUDENT CLUBS We offer a variety of clubs that will allow you to explore your interests beyond the classroom. Chances are you ll find one that suits you, and if you don t, we can help you start one!

11 STUDENT LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (SLA) Are you outgoing, enthusiastic, friendly and looking to meet people and learn great skills? The SLA is a great way to get involved and have fun while benefiting from ongoing leadership training, volunteer recognition opportunities and an all-expenses-paid, overnight Student Leadership Retreat. STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM Work while studying on campus! Student Ambassadors act as the first point of contact at the Athletics Member Services Desk, in the Housing and Student Life Office, and at the Campus Welcome and Information Desks. They typically leave George Brown as some of our most highlysought-after graduates. Living on campus has statistically significant, positive impacts on student learning and success. How College Affects Students V2, Pascarella and Tarenzini NEW STUDENT RESIDENCE For the first time ever, students will be able to live and study at George Brown College! Opening in Fall 2016, our new residence provides accommodation for 500 students and features furnished twobedroom suites with kitchenettes, high speed internet, group study areas, a community kitchen, lounge and games areas, and a patio with barbecues. Located at the corner of Front and Cherry streets, it s walking distance from two of our three campuses, with easy access to running trails, the Corktown Common park and the YMCA s fitness facilities. STUDENT ASSOCIATION Focused on representation, advocacy and the delivery of services to support students, the Student Association functions as the central student government and offers many opportunities to volunteer and get involved. STUDENT LIFE EVENTS There are numerous ways to become involved, meet peers, network and develop sought-after leadership skills. We offer several ways to transfer, obtain advanced standing and get credit for prior learning. TRANSFER OR UPGRADE WITHIN GEORGE BROWN After completing a one-year certificate, you may be eligible to transfer into a diploma program. Similarly, many of our diplomas allow bridging into our degrees. Thinking of transferring to another program? You may be able to bring some credits along with you. EXTEND YOUR EDUCATION ELSEWHERE We have established transfer agreements with many colleges and universities. This enables students who meet the requirements to receive credit at other post-secondary institutions for their George Brown credentials. These agreements often offer advanced standing into university degree programs, so you can earn both a college diploma and a university degree in less time. GET CREDIT FOR PAST EDUCATION OR WORK/LIFE EXPERIENCES Get recognition for credits earned at other institutions. Also, if you re eligible for one of our fast-track or intensive programs, you can complete the program in a condensed time frame. You may also earn credit for learning you ve done before through work, school and life experiences such as volunteering. INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION IN A GLOBAL CITY In today s job market, international exposure is a valuable asset whether that comes from sharing a campus with students from over 100 countries, gaining exposure to international curriculum, or acquiring your own international experience. STUDY AND WORK ABROAD PROGRAMS We ve built strong partnerships with educational institutions and businesses across the globe. Experience new cultures and establish an international network, while building greater confidence and independence. PATHWAYS TO INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS Take advantage of our academic pathways to various educational institutions overseas. You even have the opportunity to earn credentials from partner institutions. Need to enhance your academic skills? We offer free programs for upgrading key skills in English, math and science. Our pre-programs in health, hospitality, business and community service focus on giving students the tools they need to begin their college education.

ABORIGINAL SERVICES From bursaries, courses, student support and counselling to a dedicated student space, George Brown is committed to its Aboriginal students. Over 300 Aboriginal students attend the college each year, taking part in a wide range of programs. As a student in the School of Early Childhood, you will get to put your skills to work by gaining valuable hands-on experience at a field placement either with a placement partner or at one of our ten George Brown-managed child care lab schools.
