The Tekirdag Port was privatized in June 25, 1997 and is managed by Akport Tekirdağ İşletmesi, a member of Akkök Group of Companies, since then. Akport has two berths, New and Old. Brand new cranes and equipment provide services for Dry Cargo, General Cargo and Liquid Cargo (except fuel products) handling at these berths. In addition there are high quality services for high draft ships that carry wheat and sunflower seeds. There is a newly restored RO-RO ship's ramp to fulfill the needs of the state of the art technology RO-RO ships. Akport's target is to reach global standards of modern ports with high quality services and brand new technology. The first part of the container terminal investment which started in August 1999, opened in May Under the planned investments, it has been aimed at handling of 3 million tons of general, dry and liquid cargo and extending the capacity of handling containers to 150,000 TEU. RO RO SERVICE The purpose of this service held between Tekirdağ and Bandırma ports is to decrease the TIR and trucks traffic of Trakya and the Southern Marmara Region.
*Trade potential of 21,000 km² per area, 750 factories, population of 1.5 million. *Besides these industrial regions, European Free Trade Zone in Çorlu will play an important role in export / import volume of the Thrace Region. The European Free Trade Zone construction consists of 3 billion dollars worth of total infrastructure and will operate in a total area of 3 million m 2 with 25,000 people. Apart from those above, a contract with Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) has been signed and all the necessary operations have been started for the operational planning of Container Terminal of Akport for deriving and applying necessary stocking layouts. *Akport's location in the center of Marmara Region enables quick access to İstanbul, Greece and Bulgaria. * Tekirdağ Muratlı Railway Project : The distance to the closest train station Muratlı Train Station is 25 km. However, there is a Tekirdağ Muratlı railway project made in 2006 that could not start due to lack of investment. Therefore, it is still under construction.
GULF OF İZMİT The Gulf of İzmit is an area that is heavily furnished with several industrial plants among which ship building yards, factories, storage tanks for chemical industries, paper mills and oil refineries are found. Most industrial companies at the Gulf of İzmit have their own berth facilities built to import and/or export the products. These private berth facilities are open to usage for third parties as well. The ships berthed to private piers usually have to utilize their own gear for loading and discharging. Mobile cranes can be hired privately to load/discharge gearless vessels up to 400 tons SWL. Most of the private piers have stevedoring services through a private contractor.

The port of Bandırma is situated on the southern side in the Marmara Sea. It is one of the major outlets for the export/import of dry bulks of the Marmara Region. The port has a modern infrastructure, and it is protected by two breakwaters: one is 1000 m. long and the other is 500 m. long. The width between the breakwaters is 225 m. The port is also connected with the state railway and the highway network.
With its vast hinterland, Gemlik Port is strategically located at the South Eastern Coast of the Marmara Sea found in the North Western part of Turkey. The terminal is the natural gateway to the most wealthiest and most populated areas of the North Western part of Turkey, and it is strategically positioned on the motorway networks that supplies the best links to and from the Marmara, Anatolia and North Aegean Regions.
38 25' 00" N, 27 09' 30" E DESCRIPTION OF THE PORT: İzmir is situated at the east end of the İzmir Bay. A ship must enter İzmir Körfezi (inlet) from the Aegean Sea on a southeastern course for about 20 nmi, then turn eastward through İzmir Bay for about 10 nmi to reach the main facilities of the port of İzmir. İzmir is Turkey's third largest port and has the best natural harbor. Traffic at the harbor is not congested, the ships pass transit the channel each day. Plenty of ships can load/unload simultaneously, but İzmir is primarily a discharge port for tankers. The port is divided into several sections: outer harbor, middle harbor, inner harbor and an anchorage for explosives. The inner harbor has two primary port facilities: the old port which is sheltered by a breakwater and Alsancak. The port has a vast agricultural and industrial hinterland. It is the port for the Aegean Region's industry and agriculture and it plays a vital role in Turkey s exports. All different types of commodities and cargo groups are handled at this port, and port expansion works keep going on. The port is also connected with state railway and highway network. *RO-RObulk cargo, container, passanger facilities are available at theport.

The city of Antalya stands on the cliffs overlooking to the north end of the Antalya Bay, which is open to the Mediterranean Sea in the southeastward section. The Port of Antalya is divided into two main sections. The relatively new commercial port is located on the northwest side of the bay. The yacht harbor is located in the extreme northeast portion of the Antalya Bay about 5 nmi northeast of the commercial port and adjacent to the city.
Within the framework of a tender call issued by the Privatization Administration, the management of one of most influential ports in Turkey was given to the PSA-Akfen consortium in consideration of 755 Million US Dollars for 36 years. Partnership has already started for the fieldwork in order to render the Port of Mersin as one of the most important container hub ports amongst the countries that have a shore in the Mediterrenean Sea. The investment in the port will be approximately US $100 Million.
DESCRIPTION OF THE MERSIN PORT The port is situated in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Coast. It is the main port for the East Mediterranean Region's industry and agriculture and a gateway for both the Turkish cities Gaziantep, Adana and for Iraq and Iran. The port's rail link and its easy access to the international highway make it an ideal transit port for trade to the Middle East with its modern infrastructure and equipment, efficient cargo handling, vast storage areas and its proximity to the free trade zone. Mersin is one of the most important port in the Eastern Mediterranean. The facilities at the port include general cargo, containers, dry and liquid bulk, and RO-RO port has two breakwaters of 2800 m and 1525 m long. The depth at the entrance is 14m and 12m to 14.5 inside the breakwaters. Annually, around 4,000 vessels call at the Mersin Port.Over 16 million tons of cargoes and approximately 650 thousand teu containers are handled. According to the records, total of 3,961 vessels called at the port and 16 million tons of cargoes were handled. LAND TRANSPORTATION SHIFTED TO THE SEA The commercial potentials of Mersin, which has been a port city since its establishment, enable the Mersin Port to assume the identity of a Regional Port and to expand its hinterland.
