Who knew we had so many excited and creative photographers in the CSRA? We ll be scheduling a show of their work this coming spring to show off their expertise. We ve got Swing Dance and Medical Billing, Pharmacy Tech and a new DSLR Videography Workshop Series, a Communication Workshop, a new Grant Writing Workshop, and more. There s never been a better time to come out and learn something new. The correct golf grip, stance, and alignment will be taught along with club selection and game terminology. Bring a putter and a #6, #7, or #8 iron to the first class. T ai Chi T ai Chi Ch uan is a slow, soft, graceful form of physical exercise with roots in Chinese martial arts and Taoism. Practicing the form requires concentration and focus on the present. Learning the 64 postures of the Yang form of T ai Chi can reap numerous benefits, such as reducing stress, improving balance and flexibility, and increasing energy and well-being. T ai Chi is suitable for everyone regardless of age or physical ability. Classes are continuous. The historical lineage of the form taught begins with the legendary Yang Chen Fu > Chen Man Ching > Hsu Fun Yuen. Your instructor studied directly with Master Hsu Fun Yuen in Chicago for eight years. Swing Dance for Valentine s Day It s also called Jitterbug, Lindy, Jive, Rock N Roll, or Disco Swing and danced to fast music with a partner. Bring one or meet one. Guys, you can impress your lady and swing dance for fun regardless of skill level. You ll learn arch and loop turns, sugar pushes, exchanges, promenades, and a final impressive dip. (6 meetings) Tuesdays, Jan. 14 Feb. 18, 6-8 p.m., $99 Italian 102 Assumes you ve taken Italian 101 or have some prior language knowledge. Begins with a quick review of 101 and concentrates on expanding your vocabulary. Practice reading, writing, and speaking new phrases for dining, shopping, and traveling. Your Italian instructor is a native speaker. Study Abroad: Art Italy 2014 This is an opportunity for you to travel to Italy with a GRU Study Abroad group. The objectives of this course are to attain a deeper understanding of the cultural contributions of the civilization of Greece, particularly its ancient past, and course content may therefore include the study of art, architecture, literature, theater, religion, and to a lesser extent science, sports history, philosophy, and Byzantine art and architecture with a historical context. You will be in class beside GRU art and wellness students, but will not be granted academic credit for your participation. 5 Interior Design Create Functional and Fashionable Rooms Reclaim your home in this room-by-room makeover class. Learn essential organizational and decorating principles. The mysteries of aperture shutter speed, ISO, and white balance will be explained. Everyday situations such as family gatherings, sporting events, techniques of using flash, and nature photography are covered. Practice using the toolbar, image adjustments, layers, selections, and filters to edit photos. Save hours of computer time with shortcuts, actions, and batch processing. Work on fixing images, adding text, and retouching photos. Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop or substantial experience. (6 meetings) Mondays, Feb. 3 March 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $139 Fundamentals of Digital SLR Photography 102 More advanced topics include bracketed exposures, high dynamic range (HDR), producing panoramas, sports and action photography, available light, and night photography. Discuss how to store images and upload to website and print. Introduction to digital imaging programs such as Picasa, GIMP, and Fast Stone Image Viewer. Topics covered include metering and exposure for interior lighting, qualities of the different types of lights, and when additional lighting may be needed. Strobe lighting and modifiers will be discussed along with the techniques of interior portrait light. Work with portrait lights to produce images related to the techniques learned during the class. Prerequisite: Fundamentals 101. Preferred course background is 102 and Interior Lighting or comparable experience. (6 meetings) Tuesdays, Jan. 14 Feb. 18, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $139 Process and Print The basics of preparing digital files for printing and online use will be covered including resolution and file types. Learn the scope of output options that are available to the digital photographer. (2 meetings) Location and Outdoor Portraiture Topics covered: lighting, composition, posing in a relaxed setting, lens selection, controlling depth of field. Field trips to various locations. (6 meetings) Tuesdays, March 18 April 29 (skips April 8), 6:30-8:30 p.m., $139 Times and days vary based on field trips. Photography Business Fundamentals The business of photography is more than taking great photographs. How to make people aware of your photography services or persuade them to hire you is a big part of the business. You need samples of your work, prices of your services, and ways to produce your product. An understanding of tax and business operation is also needed. New methods of advertising and working with your clients such as proofing and ordering will be discussed. (6 meetings) Tuesdays, March 4 April 15 (skips April 8), 6:30-8:30 p.m., $139 Capstone Course Open only to graduating certificate students Certificate students will meet over the spring semester with the lead instructor for portfolio evaluation and selection criteria for public display; images from all courses taken will be evaluated. Additionally, accumulated knowledge from all courses taken relevant to beginning a photography business will be evaluated. (3 meetings) Wednesday, Jan. 15, Feb. 26, March 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $125 Photo Display and Reception TBA NEW! DSLR Videography Workshop Series Introduction to DSLR Videography The new Digital SLR cameras allow the photographer to capture video in addition to still images. This opens a new area for the modern photographer, but the DSLR differs from the typical video camera. The choice of lenses, aperture, and focus point are important to the video results obtained. Get a flavor of the videography process from shooting to editing. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 8, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; 4

7 Wednesday, Feb. 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m., $89 Saturday meeting will be at an off-campus location. This course is a prerequisite for the series of workshops below. Advanced Shooting Techniques in DSLR Videography Build upon the techniques learned in Intro to DSLR Videography workshop. Successful DSLR videography is more than setting the camera on auto and pushing record. Practice making creative shots using the tools available to the DSLR camera. Learn how to master exposure, control depth of field, framing, and camera motion to enhance your shooting skills. Saturday, March 1, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $69 Introduction to Field Audio for DSLR Videography Audio is half of the picture show, and it s often overlooked in video production. Learn how to capture field audio correctly using portable mixers, external microphones (wireless and hard wired), and their associated accessories. Discussion will focus on different types of microphones and their uses. Hands-on practice will include recording on-camera talent and recording voice-over in the field. Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification This hybrid program teaches the basics of project management and includes preparation for the current edition of the PMP national certification exam and the CAPM. Explore how to use lighting in videography to paint the picture. Some locations require extensive lighting while others may simply use available light. Analyze your lighting needs, and then use professional lighting equipment to create the desired scene. Wednesday, April 16 and 23, 6-9 p.m., $69 Expanded Macro Photography Workshops! Coming Saturdays in May! Macro Photography refers to taking close-up photographs of small objects. Our workshops concentrate on the close-up photography of flowers and plants. Time is spent on lens choice, both natural and artificial lighting, use of reflectors, depth of field, and background choice. Includes field trips to local gardens and botanical areas. Certified Addiction Counselor Levels I and II These programs are designed as weekend based hybrid courses to allow working professionals the opportunity to meet the educational requirements needed for certification as either a CAC I or CAC II.
