The Doctoral Program in Counselor Education at Sam Houston State University uses a holistic process in order to evaluate applicants for the Ph.D. Therefore, applicants will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Master s GPA (3.5 minimum Counseling graduate degree) GRE scores on the Quantitative and Verbal scales Recommendations Interview Presentation to Faculty Writing Sample provided following the Interview and Presentation Demonstrating skills in research and leadership, and personal skills/qualities that provide added value to the cohort. 6. Average Institutional Financial Support Provided For those receiving financial support, the average monetary institutional support provided per full-time graduate student for the prior year from assistantships, scholarships, stipends, grants, and fellowships (does not include tuition or benefits). FTS Average Financial Support $325 Notes: The Ph.D. program in Counselor Education is a year-round program and the vast majority of our students work full-time. Nevertheless, presently each member of a newly entering Cohort receives a scholarship at the beginning of their doctoral work covering their first semester's tuition and fees. In the second year of their program, each member of a Cohort receives a scholarship for an International Internship. In addition, we have three doctoral-level assistantships that pay $1,500 per month (20 hours per week). The assistantships are offered on a year-by-year basis and are competitive. 8.
