3 Faculty of 73 Bachelor of Applied Computing with Honours (BAppComp(Hons)) Course code: S4B This 1-year full-time or 2-year part-time course is offered by the Faculty of at Launceston. Bachelor of Applied Computing or equivalent qualification approved by the Faculty. To provide in-depth knowledge and advanced training in a major area of applied computing; and to provide opportunity to practice research methodologies in preparation for research in higher degrees (eg PhD) or employment in research organisations. A candidate must meet the requirements of any coursework and submit a thesis on the topic approved for Honours in the field of applied computing (see Unit details KXA400, 401). Candidates follow a program in Applied Computing approved by the department and supervised by a member of staff. Candidates with qualifications from other tertiary institutions may be accepted in the course subject to approval by the Faculty of. The Department of offers professional programs in computer science, information systems, software engineering and computer systems engineering. More information on these programs is available under the discipline entry in this Handbook. Students are encouraged to plan to complete a 4-year professional program, the fourth year being an optional honours year. The Bachelor of Computing in general, and the professional programs in particular, are designed to allow a student to develop skills in computing together with other relevant topics and to give a high degree of multi-skilling which will lead to a variety of career opportunities. To be awarded the degree, students will need to gain 300% (108 points) by studying at least four year 1 subjects to the value of 100% (36 points) including 1/1C (25%) and 25% (9 points) of first year mathematics; in year 2, units to the value of between 66.67% and % (24-42 points) including at least 33.33% (12 points) of units from Schedule A; and in year 3, units to the value of between 83.33% and % (30-48 points), including at least 50% (18 points), a major of units from Schedule A. Students should note prerequisites and core enrolments which must be met. The rules for this course are printed in the Rules Handbook. Specimen Specimen can be found under the Computer Science discipline entry in this Handbook. Bachelor of Computing (BComp) Course code: S3H This 3-year full-time (4 year honours) course is offered by the Faculty of and is available at Hobart. The course is also available part time. Students who have started or completed a degree may receive credit for work deemed equivalent by the Faculty. Students who have completed year 1 of the Bachelor of Applied Computing at Launceston may transfer to year 2 of the Bachelor of Computing. University admission including Satisfactory Achievement (SA) in TCE Stage 2 or TCE 11/12 Applied. Note, however, that for some University mathematics units TCE Applied is not a sufficient prerequisite. The prerequisite to KCA122 1 is TCE IF862 Computer Science. Students who do not have TCE IF862 Computer Science may enrol in KCA123 1C.
