1 DEAR CWAG COLLEAGUE On behalf of the Conference of Western Attorneys General, we announce an upcoming event, the Dinner with the Attorneys General, scheduled for Tuesday, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We invite your participation in this Endowment Dinner benefiting the programs and goals of the Attorneys General. In Fort Lauderdale, the Attorneys General, corporate and private sector supporters will join together for a dinner and informal social discussions at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. This highly personal and engaging dinner includes participation by approximately Attorneys General. We hope your schedule will allow you to attend this year s event and participate in this premier opportunity for exchanging views and forging relationships. Please review the attached Sponsor Levels sheet. As you consider CWAG s request, please note CWAG is a duly-registered IRS designated 501(c)(3) educational non-profit charitable organization. Given the current economic conditions, please check with your office about securing a charitable donation for this event. The Dinner with the Attorneys General is scheduled from 7:30 pm 9:30 pm at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale. In addition, a reception for all attendees is scheduled in the same location from 6:00 pm 7:00 pm. Lodging and Transportation We have secured a block of hotel rooms at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale under the room block name of Conference of Western Attorneys General. Rooms are available to CWAG dinner attendees at a rate of $259 per night for single or double occupancy. Ocean Front king rooms are being offered at $299 per night based on availability. The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is also offering a 35% discount off published rack rates for suites. The group rate is also offered 3 days pre and post of our event, subject to availability. 2 Lodging and Transportation Continued A credit card number must be provided at the time of your reservation to guarantee your room and please note there is a 72 hour cancellation policy. Complimentary wireless high speed internet is available in all CWAG guestrooms. Valet parking is $35 overnight; day parking for CWAG guests has been discounted to $10 per day. Since space is limited the deadline to confirm your sponsorship and attendance is Friday, November 21. We will not be able to accommodate any late or onsite registrations. The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale is approximately 15 minutes from the Fort Lauderdale/ Hollywood International Airport (FLL). If you do not wish to rent a car, taxi service is available and is approximately $29 each way not including gratuity. 5 CWAG ENDOWMENT INFORMATION Support of the 2014 CWAG Winter Dinner in Fort Lauderdale, Florida will benefit the CWAG Endowment. The CWAG Endowment is a fund established to support the educational, research, training, and other work of the Conference of Western Attorneys General and the state Attorneys General. The purpose of the fund is to assist CWAG by supporting efforts designed to benefit the members of the Association in their capacities as government officials and to assist the Association in carrying out its responsibilities. The purpose of CWAG is to provide a forum for the exchange of views and experiences on subjects of importance to the chief legal officers of the member states and jurisdictions, to foster interstate cooperation on legal issues including the coordination of litigation of common concern, to conduct policy research and analysis of issues pertaining to the law, to improve the quality of legal services provided to the members, and to facilitate communication between the members chief legal officers and members of the private sector. CWAG goals and ideals include creating opportunities and avenues for the enhancement of multi-state and public/private cooperation and communication. Support of the CWAG Endowment and the Association by private organizations is encouraged by the member Attorneys General. In addition to financial support of the Endowment, CWAG seeks participation from private industry representatives at specific meetings, by participating in the deliberations and studies of CWAG, and to make recommendations concerning the policies, programs, and work of CWAG. In keeping with the CWAG charter of enhancing public opportunities with no political affiliations, CWAG is a duly registered IRS designated 501(c)(3) educational non-profit charitable organization. 5

6 CWAG GIFT ACCEPTANCE AND SPONSORSHIP POLICY 1 It is the policy of the Conference of Western Attorneys General ( CWAG ) to accept carefully-monitored gifts and contributions from donors, corporate and non-corporate, that further the goals and purposes of CWAG. This policy sets forth the guidelines for CWAG to follow in soliciting and accepting such gifts and contributions. 2 All gifts and contributions to CWAG are gifts to CWAG and not to the individual member Attorneys General or their respective offices. The acceptance of any gift or donation by CWAG shall not constitute compensation or consideration of or for any special favor, privilege or treatment by any member Attorney General or member Attorney General s office or staff. Unless special arrangements or limitations are made in advance, CWAG may use all such gifts as needed for the operations and maintenance of CWAG, for various programmatic purposes, such as legal or policy work, regular CWAG meetings, or for any endowment or account maintained by CWAG to further its purposes. 3 The CWAG shall be responsible periodically to circulate among all CWAG member Attorneys General a listing of potential donors willing to contribute or become a CWAG sponsor through a gift or contribution. If any CWAG member Attorney General has any objection to a particular gift or contribution, he or she shall confer with the CWAG to resolve that objection. If the objection cannot be resolved to the Attorney General s satisfaction, that Attorney General may interpose a formal objection, in which case, CWAG will not accept the gift or contribution within a one-year period of the objection. After the expiration of the one-year period, the donor may seek to re-offer the gift or contribution, at which time, the CWAG shall circulate the offer to CWAG member Attorneys General for review as before. 4 Each prospective donor shall be given a copy of this policy before any gift or contribution is made to CWAG. 5 The policy shall be adopted by a majority vote of the membership at any meeting of CWAG members under the quorum and voting rules of the CWAG Constitution.
