An outstanding engineering education Aerospace engineering is an outstanding education which combines many engineering disciplines, such as lightweight engineering, material sciences, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics or propulsion technologies. Up to date software packages such as CATIA for drawings and construction or ANSYS for finite-element simulations are taught with practical examples integrated into recent R&D topics. Due to the high educational standards required, aerospace engineering graduates are sought after engineers not only for aerospace related professions, but also in automotive or energy and environmental engineering. Placements and thesis research in leading companies, research institutes and our in-house R&D team complement the education programme with practical experience. //. 6 Education, Experience & Career. A perfect education: Knowledge transfer from teacher to the students is only the first step in a successful education. The transformation of such knowledge into capabilities and subsequently into a competence and expertise requires an environment which allows such growth. The Aerospace Engineering department of the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt, in cooperation with its research partner FOTEC, is proud to provide that unique environment which blends academic education with realworld projects. Hands-on experience: The FHWN and FOTEC are involved in some of the most cutting edge research and developments. For example, with regard to material engineering and development of future manufacturing methods we have some of the most modern facilities available nowadays such as Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) or Power Injection Molding (PIM) facilities. Development of space systems and space propulsion systems has been the major R&D field of the aerospace engineering group of FOTEC for more than 30 years. Various facilities such as several mid-sized vacuum chambers and modern diagnostic facilities (e.g. secondary electron microscope, SEM) allow participation in top-notch development projects as well as in flight projects (see e.g. the ESA mission Rosetta or the NASA mission MMS). Future career: Involvement of Aerospace Engineering lecturers and students in such projects ensures a modern and up-to-date education. Regardless whether the student chooses the aerospace, automotive, environmental or any other industry for her/his career, the educational edge obtained in Aerospace Engineering will prepare her/him in the best possible fashion.
