S o m e o n e t o r e l y o n i n h a p p y o r d i f f i c u l t t i m e s The merger of Attwaters with Jameson & Hill in July 2012 brought together two complementary teams of legal experts and created a four-branch firm serving Hertfordshire, Essex and outer London. So, when you choose Attwaters Jameson Hill, you gain access to specialist legal services comparable to the best anywhere, yet within easy reach. In a changing world, we can never know what the future holds. Whatever legal issues you face, Attwaters Jameson Hill will provide the expertise and high quality service you need. As a growing regional firm, we offer a wide range of private client services, with a tradition of client care going back to Our clients are from all walks of life and have diverse needs. Some come to us for advice on tax planning or managing their affairs later in life. Others might want help making their Will or moving house. In less fortunate situations, people seek our help and support with problems such as relationship breakdown. Quality is key to everything we do. As evidence of this, we hold the Law Society s Lexcel standard for good client care and management practice. So, whether we are working for you during a happy or a difficult time, you can be sure of the same high quality advice and service. Once again, thank you so very much for your work and for your unfailing courtesy and support during what was an extremely stressful period. I have sung the praises of your services far and wide.
R e s i d e n t i a l P r o p e r t y It is often said that buying or selling a house is one of the most stressful times of your life. It is also the most important financial transaction that most people undertake. Whether you are buying or selling, or both, our residential property team will help make your next house move a happy one. Client satisfaction is our top priority. Our experienced conveyancing staff are committed to delivering a professional, highly efficient and personal service. This is no conveyor belt and call centre service! A solicitor or professional conveyancer will be personally responsible for your transaction and will chase its progress, keeping in direct contact with you throughout. Rest assured, we apply the same level of professionalism whether you are buying or selling a one-bedroom flat or a seven-bedroom mansion. We also advise on remortgaging, lease extensions, right to buy, title deed transfers, shared ownership issues, property auctions and equity release schemes. While most of our clients are private homeowners, perhaps with second homes or buy-to-let properties, we also work with property investors and developers. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for the wonderful service I received during my sale and purchase. I would never dream of going anywhere else and will make sure everyone I know is aware how happy I am with your firm.
T o w n a n d C o u n t r y P l a n n i n g The planning team at Attwaters Jameson Hill has been advising on Town and Country Planning matters for 40 years. Whatever your plans are for your home we can advise on every aspect of planning law. Often, the planning system can be confusing and technical and we pride ourselves on our ability in making relevant and incisive advice accessible to all our clients. We focus on your aims at all times and work to provide solutions to your planning issues, which in turn will benefit you. We offer a comprehensive service, including advice on planning applications, planning appeals, Enforcement Notice appeals, legal agreements, assessment of development potential, Certificates of Lawfulness and general planning advisory services. We are able to advise on a multitude of planning issues, whether it be advising on an application prior to it being submitted or dealing with any refusal and subsequent appeal. If necessary, our experienced advocates can represent you at appeals before the Planning Inspectorate. Our in-depth knowledge allows us to deal with a wide range of cases from relatively modest amendments to more substantial and complicated development. As the client, your mind is always on the result, and our clients know the importance of having our team of expert lawyers on board. When planning permission for our proposed extension was refused, your services were recommended for an Appeal. The straightforward, totally professional approach and successful outcome was very much appreciated.
F a m i l y L a w The breakdown of a relationship can be a painful and stressful experience. It is important to seek advice and support from solicitors who specialise in family law. Your relationship with your solicitor should be one of trust, openness and confidence. Take time to find the right solicitor for you. Having the right one will make all the difference. Attwaters Jameson Hill s family law team has a strong reputation and includes members of The Law Society s Family Law Accreditation Scheme and Children Law Accreditation Scheme. We also have accredited specialists of Resolution and a trained collaborative lawyer. We will resolve your particular issues in a sympathetic, efficient and professional manner, with a proactive, constructive and conciliatory approach. We can advise you on divorce and separation, financial settlement and issues involving children, using mediation and collaborative law wherever appropriate. We also help with pre-nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes and civil partnerships. Should you need help regarding child protection and adoption, or domestic violence, no matter what your circumstances may be, we have the expertise to provide you with the support you need. You can depend on Attwaters Jameson Hill. A calm but firm approach (and) a very pleasing result in court. I was given expert advice by our solicitor, who was keen to save me money whenever she could. Not usually what you hear about solicitors. I would strongly recommend the services of your firm.
T a x e s a n d T r u s t s Attwaters Jameson Hill has been advising on tax and trusts for over a century. Tax planning centres upon the arrangement of your assets (such as property, shares and savings) to maximise available tax reliefs now and in the long term. We look at every angle, from income tax to capital gains tax and inheritance tax, in order to minimise your liabilities. Establishing a trust is often the best way to govern the succession of assets and to reduce tax liabilities. Our specialists will advise you on the most appropriate form of trust for your requirements, taking into account your aims, your circumstances and the current tax laws. Once established, we can administer the trust on your behalf. We can also act as trustees, or, if you are named as a trustee, we will advise you on your powers and duties. If there is a dispute between the beneficiaries of a trust and the trustees, or between the trustees themselves, whichever you represent, we can act on your behalf. Attwaters Jameson Hill also has extensive experience of personal injury trusts. The service provided was excellent helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The service we received was first class and very professional.
E l d e r l y C l i e n t S e r v i c e s Planning for Later Life Elderly clients, their families and carers often face complex legal issues, including Will making and other vital planning for later life. These require clear, reliable advice and practical help. Our friendly professional advice can cover Lasting Powers of Attorney, long-term care planning and asset protection. An outright home ownership transfer to family carries risks and cannot guarantee protection from use to meet care fees; we can explain all this and offer solutions. Please contact our elderly client services team if you or a loved one need advice on such issues. We are happy to visit clients at home or in a care home or hospital. Court of Protection Though its workings may seem complex and daunting, the Court of Protection exists to look after the welfare of those no longer able to manage their own affairs due to mental incapacity. If nobody has been appointed under a Lasting Power of Attorney or Enduring Power of Attorney, an application must be made to the Court for appointment of a deputy, often a family member but otherwise sometimes a solicitor. Attwaters Jameson Hill is very willing to assist families with this process, as well as other applications to the Court for Statutory Wills, lifetime gift orders, trust issues and property matters. Thank you for all your help you were very kind towards my elderly mother and made her feel at ease. Everything was explained very clearly throughout and we would not hesitate to recommend you.
W i l l s a n d P r o b a t e Wills Should you die intestate (without a Will), you are unable to control what will happen to your assets. You may also leave your dependants with a tax burden and other problems. Our specialist Wills & Probate lawyers have intricate knowledge of property, trusts and tax law. We will prepare your Will to ensure your wishes are carried out and potential tax liabilities are minimised. Should you be elderly and have difficulty travelling, we can arrange to visit you in your own home, or in your nursing home or hospital. The Administration of Estates Being given the task of winding up someone s estate brings heavy responsibilities and is always burdensome, especially when combined with the distress of losing someone close to you. With a sensitive and understanding approach, we ensure that the deceased s estate is wound up correctly and that their wishes are respected. Should the Will be contested in any way, we will act on your behalf to protect your interests. We also advise elderly clients on Powers of Attorney, Living Wills and the Court of Protection. I would like to thank you for your sensitive and professional handling of my husband s estate. It helped to ease me through a very difficult time.

We can obtain interim payments to assist with financial hardship and fund private treatment. Attwaters Jameson Hill offers a no win, no fee service. Do not delay. For free advice contact us today. All information is treated with the utmost confidentiality. What I really do want to do is thank you, and all other members of the team involved in dealing with my accident claim, so much for everything that you have done for me. I feel that everything has been handled in a highly professional manner, but just as importantly to me in a caring and personal way that has helped enormously.
M e d i c a l N e g l i g e n c e Our acclaimed medical negligence team has established a national reputation for excellence in pursuing claims against hospitals, GPs and other healthcare providers, dealing with cases of all values from minor injuries up to multi-million pound settlements, with high rates of success. If you have suffered illness or injury as a result of substandard medical treatment, or a member of your family has sadly died as a result of medical error, you may wish to seek redress against the treatment provider. Our team will be able to help you achieve your aims, whether it be an apology, an explanation of what went wrong, assistance through the Inquest process and/or fair compensation for the injuries arising. There is no substitute for quality of service and the experience of the team dealing with the claim. We aim to achieve early and advantageous settlements for all clients. Whatever the case, we offer an approachable and sympathetic service. Our team comprises highly specialist clinical negligence lawyers (including members of The Law Society s Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme and AvMA Clinical Negligence Panel) and medically qualified medico-legal advisers, ensuring all clients receive the best possible legal and medical advice. Attwaters Jameson Hill also has extensive experience in managing substantial medical negligence settlements under the control of the Court of Protection in cases where claimants are unable to look after their own affairs and trusts for other claimants to ensure their settlements are looked after properly and protected. Reflecting the views of clients, other solicitors and barristers, Chambers UK places our Medical Negligence Department in the very top band of leading firms in the UK for claimant clinical negligence work, adding that the team always strives to do its very best for its clients.
E m p l o y m e n t I s s u e s Problems at work can cause untold stress and anxiety. Employment law is constantly changing and is becoming increasingly complicated and technical. We act for clients in all manner of employment situations. Some of them are in parttime or fixed-term work, others are directors involved in disputes with shareholders. If you have been dismissed or have suffered discrimination or unfair treatment at work, you may have a claim against your employer. At Attwaters Jameson Hill, we understand the difficulties you face and have the experience to provide you with the specialist advice you need. Firstly, we will consider your claim and establish your objectives. We can then advise you how best to approach the situation and what the likely outcome might be. We are committed to protecting your position and achieving a successful result for you as quickly as possible. The firm handled a large number of compromise agreements for our employees, due to major restructuring. I would not hesitate to use their services in the future and will continue to recommend them to our employee base.
R o a d T r a f f i c O f f e n c e s We understand that facing motoring allegations can be a nerve-racking experience and we are able to offer the advice and support that you will need throughout this time. Speeding, driving without insurance, driving with excess alcohol and dangerous or careless driving are some of the matters with which we are able to deal. This area of law can be very technical and turn on the smallest of detail, something that we are accustomed to, and we pride ourselves on the quality of advice we deliver. Our lawyers are experienced advocates and can represent you in Court, advancing any defence you may have available or working to reduce the period of ban and the fine imposed. We also have excellent links with other leading professionals in this field, should their expertise be required. Your licence plays an important part in your day-to-day personal and working life and the Attwaters Jameson Hill team will work tirelessly to obtain the best possible outcome. Can I thank your firm for the efficient and personal service given, I was very pleased with the result obtained.
C i v i l L i t i g a t i o n There are times in life when a dispute is simply unavoidable. Whatever the nature of the dispute in which you are involved, and whether you need to pursue a claim or defend yourself against one, Attwaters Jameson Hill has the expertise to prepare your case to your best advantage. Our expertise includes landlord and tenant law and a wide range of propertyrelated matters. We handle all manner of contractual disputes, usually relating to the purchase of goods and services, and debt recovery cases. We also deal with professional negligence claims against doctors, hospitals, dentists, accountants, surveyors and law firms. Disputes involving contested Wills and inheritance claims are also, sadly, all too common. We can act for you if you wish to make a claim as a dependant or, if you are an executor or a beneficiary, we can defend a challenge made against the estate. Court action is usually time-consuming and costly, so wherever possible we aim to resolve disputes through negotiation and mediation rather than litigation, in order to achieve a quicker and more cost-effective solution for you. I do not want to appear too gushing, but to find someone with your positive attitude is a rarity and I was very happy that you were on our side!
