1 Barrier fencing is a good engineered control method for protecting trees from machinery during construction. The barrier should be sturdy enough to prevent equipment and machinery from accessing the Tree Protection Zone. Root Structure of a tree in normal growing conditions Reference: Australian Standard AS Protection of Trees on Development Sites, p6 Arbor Master Tree Services 2012 Page 12 of 16
2 APPENDIX 5: TREE PROTECTION FENCING Reference: Australian Standard AS Protection of Trees on Development Sites, p16 TPZ Sign should be 600mm x 600mm, made of weatherproof material & fastened to protective fencing at regular intervals to ensure text is legible from a distance of 10m on all sides Example Below TREE PROTECTION ZONE NO ACCESS DO NOT REMOVE OR ALTER BARRIER No site buildings, storage of goods or waste materials, incineration of any material, storage of plaster products within or adjacent to the TPZ. 3 APPENDIX 6: GUIDE TO TREE SCHEDULE Tree #: All trees are numerically identified. The Site Plan shows reference to individual trees listed in the Tree Schedule. Species: Scientific and Common names are used to identify trees. The species identification is based on visual observations. In some instances, it may be difficult to quickly and accurately identify a particular tree without further detailed investigations. Where there is some doubt of the precise species of a tree it is indicated with the abbreviation sp DBH: Diametre at Breast Height. The diameter of individual trees is measured at 1.4m above ground level. Stem diametre is measured with a diametre tape. Height: Age: Height is estimated to the nearest metre from ground level to the upper-most leaves. Age is estimated from visual indicators and it should only be taken as a provisional guide. Juvenile: a young specimen newly established, growing with considerable vigour but not exceeding 20% of what is considered mature for its species. Semi-Mature: An established specimen, growing with considerable vigour but not exceeding 50% of what is considered mature for its species. Mature: A specimen considered 100% of what is considered mature for its species. Vigour is often reduced as energy reserves are utilized more for maintenance than growth. Over-Mature: A specimen showing visual signs of decline in vigour and vitality. Often shows signs of disease or insect attack, deadwood and canopy die-back. Dead: A specimen showing no signs of life or likelihood of survival. Arbor Master Tree Services 2012 Page 14 of 16
