2 What are Transferable Skills? Transferable skills are the skills you acquire during any activity in your life that can be applied at a later stage in other situations e.g. they are transferable. You can acquire these skills through all sorts of activities employment, projects, voluntary work, hobbies, sports, almost any area of your life. Why is Skills Analysis Necessary? College: As you progress through your degree you are already acquiring a number of these job skills. A large part of economic training is in how to use mathematics to communicate a point precisely and how to use data to support an argument. This includes dealing with: mergers and acquisitions arranging or underwriting issuance of equity or debt; privatisations Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) and other flotations; raising venture capital; advising on and leading management buyouts. etc Stockbroker Stockbroking involves investing in securities, money and a range of financial products on behalf of institutional, corporate and private clients. A stockbroker interprets analysts' reports with a view to recommending to clients when to buy or sell stocks. They do not necessarily follow the analysts' recommendations. Stockbrokers either buy or sell for private investors (and are therefore called private client stockbrokers, investment managers or wealth managers) or to financial institutions. Finance Careers In Brief Tax Consultants Tax advisers use their extensive knowledge of continually changing tax legislation to provide advisory and consultancy services to their clients.they explain, in simple terms, complicated legislation and its implications for clients' financial affairs. They advise on all aspects of taxation in order to create the best tax strategies and future financial planning for their clients. They calculate clients' tax liability and submit tax returns by the relevant deadline and deal with the Revenue Commissioners. Actuary Actuaries are problem solvers, who use their training to analyse and interpret data, create models of the future to assess risks and estimate outcomes, making financial sense of the future, by conducting careful studies of similar events in the past, thus assessing probabilities and risk. Actuarial consultants provide an advisory service, offering advice to organisations on employees' benefits, such as pension provision. Marketing Careers In Brief Marketing Executive - Consumer Marketing executives in this field are involved in promoting and selling fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) and products to the public, usually via the retail trade. FMCGs are typically highvolume, low-value items with high public visibility and short life span, such as food, drink, confectionery, toiletries, and household goods. They work on various projects to support the brand/marketing manager in developing brands and promoting existing products, raising public awareness of the client's products through advertising campaigns and in-store promotions and building brand loyalty. Marketing Executive Industrial Business to business marketing including industrial marketing (supply of products to business), trade marketing (supply of goods to retail/wholesale) and business services marketing (eg telecoms); their roles all being to promote their company's products to other businesses. Other Careers In Brief Insurance Underwriter Responsible for deciding if requests for insurance cover should be accepted by assessing, identifying and calculating the risk of loss for policyholders and the company. This is achieved by defining the terms and conditions of the cover, in line with establishing appropriate premium rates that should be paid in order to achieve the company's underwriting and profit objectives, and writing policies that cover these risks. Insurance is divided into two main sectors -General: this covers personal, commercial and reinsurance. Life: this deals with pensions and life policies. Industrial Buyer / Purchasing manager Procures or purchases the highest quality and appropriate quantity of goods and services at the lowest or most competitive rate to meet user needs according to specified criteria. Also manages the relationship and process of delivery - ensuring that the goods or services are delivered to the right place at the right time.
