Overview IntelliTeam CNMS is an SNMP-based solution for monitoring and managing a network of S&C SpeedNet Radios. It provides the following features: Monitors performance of SpeedNet Radio Ethernet and wireless interfaces Provides consolidated performance reports on a per Radio Subgroup level Supports continuous monitoring and management of radio configuration Supports continuous monitoring and management of network topology Supports scheduled software upgrade and backup for one or more radios Supports periodic configuration backups. SpeedNet Radios enable utilities to build wireless mesh networks for small area coverage like an electrical distribution feeder, and networks can be expanded to cover an entire metropolitan area. The SpeedNet system provides fully integrated, twoway communication of real-time information between smart grid components over a peer-to-peer mesh network. SpeedNet Radios automatically build routing tables that define message paths, so if a link is lost a new path will be quickly established. Operating in the unlicensed 902- to 928-MHz band, typical range with an omnidirectional antenna is 2 to 5 miles in mesh mode, and over 6 miles in point-to-multipoint mode with directional antennas. If needed, SpeedNet Repeater Radios can be installed to increase transmission range and provide alternate nodes for message routing. See Figure 1. Figure 1. A typical SpeedNet Radio Mesh Network. 2 S&C Instruction Sheet
Overview The modular sections of IntelliTeam CNMS are opened from the Main menu accessed with the Start button. See Figure 2. A hierarchy of menus and sub-menus are available in each module: Topology Configuration Error Management Performance Security Application Settings Tools. Figure 2. IntelliTeam CNMS main menu. See Figure Right click on the link and select Save Target As to download the file. Figure 9. Download Files window. Location View on Maps IntelliTeam CNMS provides Map View to show the deployment of the Network Elements: On a geographical map, using the Deployment View tab, In terms of the physical location layout, using the Topology View tab. Deployment View Google Map shows the physical location of devices managed by the CNMS. Icons uniquely identify the different Network Element types, so the network administrator can easily identify a Network Element. Alarm Status is also represented, for quick problem detection. Zoom-in drills down to the street-level view of the Network Element location. Different view levels can be saved, and related with the hierarchy. Deployment View can also be used to set the Address/Geo Coordinates for a Network Element. An address is automatically geocoded and placed on the map. The drag and drop feature can move an icon to a new location. A state level view can be set for a higher group level, and a street level view for a sub-group. CNMS remembers the icon location, and the zoom level for each level of the tree. 1. Navigate to the Deployment View window in the application landing page. See Figure 10 on page In the Deployment View window, each device is placed in its respective geographical location. Google Map provides two different views: Map A geographical map displays the exact location of the device. Satellite An aerial image of the network device location is displayed. 3. To change the location of a device, drag and drop it with the mouse. 4. To move around the Google Map, use the pan tool located in the top left corner of the map. You can: Pan Move left and right, and up and down to move in the map Maximize/Minimize Zoom in and zoom out. 5. The toolbar, or a right click on the device icon, displays management options for a selected Network Element. S&C Instruction Sheet
Figure 10. Deployment View window. 10 S&C Instruction Sheet
Topology View This option loads the floor layout of the selected Network Element: 1. Navigate to the Topology View window in the Application landing page. See Figure Select the required group from the tree view. 3. The appropriate topology map is loaded depicting the Network Elements and their inter-connectivity. 4. The toolbar, or a right click on the device icon, displays management options for a selected Network Element. Figure 11. Topology View window. File Server In a typical deployment location, there could be a few common File Servers used for maintaining the NE Database Backups and NE Software. End-users prefer not to type the File-Server credentials for each backup/upgrade operation they perform. So, the CNMS maintains a list of File Servers. This also improves scheduling individual operations that include NE Database Backup and Software Upgrade, because File Server credentials for each operation do not have to be provided individually. The CNMS supports using the CNMS-Server as the FTP-Server, or using a TFTP-Server configured by the user. S&C Instruction Sheet
Viewing File Server Configuration 1. Navigate to Configuration > File Server from the menu bar. 2. The File Server window opens, and shows details about the default File Server. See Figure 12. Figure 12. File Server window. 3. Navigate to Configuration > File Server from the menu bar. 4. The File Server window opens, and shows details about the default File Server. See Figure Click the New icon. 6. The Add File Server window opens. See Figure 13 on page You must enter data for a column marked with a red asterisk. Specify the values for these parameters: File Server Name Name of the File Server. File IP Address The IP address of the File Server. File User Name The user name of the File Server. File Password The password of the File Server user. Confirm File Password The confirmation password of the File Server user. Update Inactive File Server By default, IntelliTeam CNMS will check the validity of the supplied FTP Server credentials before adding the FTP Server. This checkbox allows the user to override this default behavior. Overriding the validation step can be useful for adding an FTP Server when it is known to be temporarily down or unreachable. If this box is unchecked (default condition), then the CNMS will validate the FTP Server credentials before adding the Server to the list. If this box is checked, then IntelliTeam CNMS will add a potentially inactive Server to the list without validating the credentials. 8. Click Save to add a File Server. 12 S&C Instruction Sheet
Figure 13. Add File Server window. Viewing Configured File Server Details 1. Navigate to Configuration > File Server from the menu bar. 2. 14 Editing Configured File Server The Edit option permits changes in the data on the File Server which is not in use. However, the name of the File Server can be modified at any stage. Existing tasks are not affected by this change. When the task is opened after changing the File-Server name, the latest name of the File-Server is displayed. 1. Navigate to Configuration > File Server from the menu bar. 2. The File Server window opens, and shows details about the default File Server. See Figure 12 on page Select the configured File Server from the list. 4. Click Edit icon, or right click on the selected File Server and select Edit. 5. The Edit File Server window opens. See Figure Edit the specified parameters. 7. Click Save to update the changes. Figure 15. Edit File Server window. Deleting Configured File Server Any File Server, except the default File Server, listed in the File Server Management window can be deleted. To prevent an accidental deletion, you are asked to confirm deletion. An error message appears if you try to delete an operating File Server. 1. Navigate to Configuration > File Server from the menu bar. 2. The File Server window opens, and shows details about the default File Server. See Figure 12 on page Select the desired File Server from the list. 4. Click the Delete icon, or right click on the selected Server and select Delete. 5. Click OK to confirm the deletion, or click Cancel to abort the delete process. 14 S&C Instruction Sheet
