1 About Life s WORC Life s WORC is a not-for-profit agency that provides comprehensive support to people with developmental disabilities including mental retardation and autism. Founded in 1971, Life s WORC serves over 1,200 individuals and families and maintains 36 homes and 12 community-based programs throughout Nassau, Queens and Suffolk Counties. Since its inception, Life s WORC has established a solid reputation for providing quality support to a special population. In addition to providing quality services and support, Life s WORC is also known for its efficiency. In fact, as documented in the agency s most recent audited financial report, 91 percent of the money received by Life s WORC is spent directly on the people in the Life s WORC homes and programs. years of Life changing WORK Life s WORC is also known as a great place to work. 4 The Board of Directors of Life s WORC cordially invite you to attend the 41st Anniversary Holiday Gala. This year s honorees are Donald W. Barrick, President & CEO of RMP Capital Corp. (Islandia, NY) and Patrick C. McCarthy, Esq., Principal of McCarthy & Carbon, P.C. (Westbury, NY; Farmingdale, NY). The event, which will take place on December 7, 2012 at the Garden City Hotel, is one of Life s WORC s major fundraisers and an opportunity to recognize both its good works and the major contributions of its honorees. Each year, Life s WORC has the pleasure of gathering with many of our most loyal supporters appropriately during the season of giving. We have strong representation by leading members of the corporate community, as well as the private sector. They along with our dedicated staff celebrate the achievements of our organization in fulfilling our mission on behalf of individuals with developmental disabilities, and also acknowledging select individuals who, through their support, have helped us achieve vital goals. 5 Honoree Donald W. Barrick Donald Barrick is President of RMP Capital, a factoring company for small to medium-sized business and community banks, Mr. Barrick is a hands-on leader. Under his direction, RMP has become a prominent national provider of factoring solutions. RMP specializes in solutions for the transportation industry, contractors working on public utility projects, risk management services for contractors and rediscounting lines of credit to independent factoring companies. The firm operates under a Relationship Management business model to assure the optimum client service. In addition to its headquarters in Islandia, RMP has satellite offices in Massachusetts, Texas and Pennsylvania. Prior to RMP Capital, Mr. Barrick was the Chief Financial Officer of CTA Industries, formerly American Rockwood Acquisition Corporation, a holding company of several manufacturers of insulation products for residential, commercial and industrial applications. From 1995 to 2000, he managed all of the company s financial, accounting and information technology (IT) functions. A primary responsibility of his was performing financial due diligence on acquisitions, financial policy and reporting to banks and investors. During his tenure at CTA, he managed three rounds of debt and equity financing totaling over $150 million. He also was credited with integrating the accounting operations and IT systems of three acquired companies and implementing two Enterprise Resource Planning (ERA) systems. Mr. Barrick s professional career also includes his position as a principal in Barrick and Barrick, Inc., a real estate financing brokerage specializing in placing commercial mortgages of $1 million to $10 million and SBA loans up to $500,000. Mr. Barrick holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Cornell University. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children: Emily, Christopher and Brandon. They reside in Lloyd Harbor, NY. 6 Honoree Patrick C. McCarthy, Esq. At McCarthy & Carbone, PC., a leading personal injury law firm, Mr. McCarthy concentrates in all aspects of personal injury including: automobile accidents, slip and fall, workplace accidents and all other negligence matters. He brings extensive trial experience to his role and courtroom achievements which include securing the largest verdict on Long Island in A dedicated advocate for his clients he brings professionalism and compassion to every case, understanding the emotional devastation of sustaining traumatic and life changing injuries in an accident. Mr. McCarthy is a graduate of Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg School of Law and was admitted to practice in all the courts of New York in A well-respected member of the legal profession, he is a member in good standing of the New York State Bar Association and Suffolk Bar Association. Mr. McCarthy s involvement with Life s WORC stems from his family foundation, The Michael McCarthy Foundation. It was established by Michael W. McCarthy, a former chairman of the board of Merrill Lynch, and his wife, Margaret E. McCarthy in 1958, to support a wide range of needs, from education and the Arts, to health and medical research, and assistance to the sick, needy and disadvantaged. Under the stewardship of its current trustees, the foundation continues in its philanthropy of which Life s WORC has benefitted tremendously. The Foundation also supports other organizations with synergistic missions, including Autism Speaks. According to Mr. McCarthy, Autism is a cause very near and dear to my heart. I have so many friends affected by Autism and having a learning disabled sister myself, the issue really hits close to home. McCarthy resides in Dix Hills, NY with his wife, Joanne, and their three sons, Michael, Sean and Ryan. It takes a village to raise a child. ild with autism it takes so much more.
