Altair's Software Asset Optimization Solution provides comprehensive insights into customers concurrent/shared software license usage with the ability to consolidate usage from multiple license management systems. 7 System Architecture The SAO system comprises the back-end data collectors that gather all license usage and denials data which is sent to the central data-warehouse. All license usage reports and analytics are provided using Altair's Business Analytics Platform. The schematic is shown in the following diagram. This architecture supports near real time and long term reports and analytics. 12 The Altair SAO Web Portal The Altair SAO web portal is accessed using a URL similar to IP_Address:8080/sao/ Main Dashboard The following image shows the main landing page. This page hosts the dashboard containing the most critical information of interest. The OTB SAO portal shows the following view-ports: 1. Total number of denials encountered by the system during the past 1 hour and the past 24 hours and comparison to the corresponding average calculated YTD. 2. Top longest currently open sessions 3. Feature Saturation (indicative of % of available licenses for a feature) grouped by saturation levels (if the number of software features in a level are 0, the bar is not displayed) a. <50% b % c % d % e % f % 4. License server activity displayed in a map with all license server locations based on their geographical location. The metrics displayed through a pop are aggregated YTD. A mouse-over provides some additional details about that license server site: a. Names of License Server Machines b. Number of distinct users per daemon c. Total number of licenses granted by the daemon d. Total number of denials per daemon 5. 15 The web portal is segmented into the following areas: Upper Left Panel hosts the list of reports grouped by category. Lower Left Panel hosts the filters controlled by the end-user Right Panel hosts the actual reports. New reports are displayed in new Tabs in this area. The Toolbar provides utilities such as PDF export and Excel output. It depends on the report context. The main dashboard consists of multiple view-ports. Each view-port has a chart icon in its upper right corner. This icon is clicked to access the full report corresponding to the view-port. The report list, filter controls panel, and the Toolbar are available for any active Tab. Reports All Reports and Administration tools are placed in the left had top pane. The Reports are grouped as follows: 1. Alerts - This group of reports shows the most critical metrics that are monitored by the IT and License Usage managers 2. Usage - This group of reports shows license usage, short and long term. Usage reports also show the roll-up and breakdown by Region and Department organization used by a customer. Region and Department reports are available only if the customer loads these external data and the User-Region-Department assignments into the system. 3. Advanced - This group of reports provides additional insight into license usage such as daily usage profiles, usage comparisons, rollup and breakdown of all software usage across regional and departmental hierarchies if this data is available and loaded into the system). Reports to help with planning based on spare capacity are also included in this group. 4. Admin - This group of reports and utilities pertain to getting slow moving and static information such as an inventory of vendors (license files), feature details including available licenses, and utilities for administrators to define and edit a. 17 Filters (aka Navigator) The lower left panel hosts the Filter controls. Users can control date ranges, Vendor/Feature, Region, Department, User, and License Server through drop down lists or date picker. The report in the active tab on the right hand side determines which filters can be set for that report. MTD (Month to Date): is a period starting at the beginning of the current month and ending at the current date. The "Start Date" and "End Date" adjust base on the Date Range selection. YTD (Year to Date): is a period, starting from the beginning of the current year, and continuing up to the present day. 18 General Usage Directions All reports are provided either through the Reports panel by clicking on a specific report, or in case of the Main Dashboard, through clicking on the chart icon in each view-port's upper right corner. The reports provide additional drill-down and drill through navigation. Drill-down refers to accessing reports using a category hierarchy such as a region or a department. Drill through implies getting a related report using the selection of an entity selected using the left mouse click. When a drill through report is desired, the user hovers on a chart entity like a bar, point, pie, or on a table row. The user can click, and in case a drill through report is available, a pop-up menu provides available report options. If the user selects a report from the pop-up menu, a new tab is opened, and the related report is displayed. The new report will control the list of available filters. The 'entity' selected in the previous report is the default selection for the new report. The 'entity' could be a Vendor, Feature, User, License Server and so on. In general, all high level reports are aggregations that go across various categories such as Regions, Departments, Features, Vendors, License Servers and so on. In such cases, there are no filters available. Typically other drill throughs on the chart provide access to reports that show a breakdown based on the entity selected. For example, if there is a Vendor ranking chart, a drill through on a bar representing 1 vendor will provide usage breakdown by features contained in that vendor. When a set of filters is in effect, and a new report is accessed, the same set of filters is used as default. If the report is already displayed in a tab, and is using its filter values, those values are not changed. Closing the tab and re-opening the report will reset the filter values to the last active filter set. This eases accessing related reports in the absence of direct drill through by using the currently set filter values. When a chart is accompanied by a tabular report, the table rows can be reordered by selecting a column to sort, and the sort order is reflected in the chart. Table rows are highlighted based on the mouse-over in the chart. The next section describes all available reports, their filters, access method, and Drills that are available. 20 Description Show total number of denials during the past hour and the past 24 hours. Compare the same to the average number of denials for the hour (there are 24 averages, one per hour, over a 24 hour period). Compare the same to the average number of denials per day. The chart provides a visual indicator of the level of denials as compared to the averages. Excessive denials will put the needle in the red zone, whereas low denials will put the needle in the blue zone. 24 Description This shows the saturation levels collected in multiple ranges. Of main interest are the features that show up in % saturation. Saturation is an indicator of impending denials. If a feature is running at 100% saturation, the next request for this feature will be denied. 26 Description This dashboard report displays a live map (internet connectivity required) with the physical locations of all license servers installed within the corporation. The tool tip shows the list of license servers running in a location and the distinct number of users using the server to get licenses. Licensing activity includes all granted licenses + all denials across every feature irrespective of the vendors. 116 Description This report is provides insights into the Altair HyperWorks Licensing model. Altair has a unique licensing approach that allows users on one computer using one display to use multiple Altair HyperWorks products simultaneously and are only charged HyperWorks Units (HWUs) drawn by the feature that draws the maximum HWUs. For example, if a user has 3 sessions of HyperMesh open simultaneously, the total HWUs charged for that user on that machine will be 21, and not 21*3. This report shows the actual usage in HWU-Hours (total height of the bar) and the charged usage (in Yellow). The green portion of the usage depicts the delta usage advantage due to Altair's unique business model.
