4 PRESCHOOL NEWS by Amber Parrot, teacher During the month of April, preschool had fun learning about the weather. We planted and watched seeds grow into plants and learned about farm animals. We have enjoyed the nice weather and going outside to play on the playground. The tricycles were returned to the indoor playroom for those rainy days when we could not go outside. We are looking forward to the self transport field trip planned to The Farm in Walnut Creek (don t forget to pack your lunch) and all the fun activities planned in May.

6 Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities News Scott Brace, Superintendent The Board met in regular session on April 16, Business/Personnel Manager Curtis Goehring reviewed the financial report for March. Real estate taxes were received and came in above projections for the first half collection due to new construction. Mr. Goehring noted that the Training Center levy collections do not change when values increase. Although the voters have passed three levies totaling 6.8 mills to support the Training Center, those levies only generate 3.18 mills based on current values. Mr. Goehring reported that if the proposed state budget is not altered, the phase out of CAT tax funding from the state will mean the Training Center will lose $348, per year in funding from the state. The Board reviewed the proposed phase out of the TDD Waiver, which will affect two children in Holmes County. The Board reviewed the report from the Center for Community Solutions: Ohio at a Crossroads: The Developmental Disabilities System. Superintendent Brace reviewed the proposed state budget and its effect on the Training Center and families. He shared his communications with State Representative Dave Hall, State Representative Al Landis, State Senator Jay Hottinger and State Senator Larry Obhof. In official business, the Board accepted the resignation of Rita Jensen for retirement purposes and approved the pooled funding agreement with Holmes County Job & Family Services, Holmes County Juvenile Court, Holmes/Wayne Mental Health & Recovery Board and the Holmes County Commissioners. This agreement addresses the funding of children with multiple needs in residential treatment. Board President Myron Stutzman announced that the Board will be interviewing five candidates to become the next superintendent of the Training Center. A sure sign of spring are the killdeer eggs hidden in among the stones outside the ECC.
