1 University of Georgia Financial Planning Undergraduate Curriculum Course ID: HACE hours. Course Survey of Financial Planning Course Overview of the financial planning process for individuals and families. Topics include external planning consideration, financial planning statements, cash flow management, time value of money, and planning with respect to education, insurance, investments, tax, retirement, and estate transfers. Through classroom lecture, examination, and assignments the students will gain an understanding of how the financial planning process can benefit families and individuals. Course ID: HACE hours. Course Computer Applications for Financial Planning Course Provides students with a functional understanding of how to use computer applications to analyze the financial situation, needs, and goals of families and individuals. Topics include constructing personal financial statements; cash flow analysis and projections; charts and tables; time value of money applications as related to education, retirement, life insurance and other areas of financial planning; pro-forma analysis; and amortization and accumulation tables. Course ID: RMIN hours. Course Risk Management and Insurance Course Risk identification, risk evaluation, and risk treatment methods. Consideration is given to both business and personal risks, with an emphasis on insurance as a risk management tool. Designed for non-majors as well as a basis for more advanced courses. Course ID: HACE 4200/ hours. Course Family Savings and Investments Course Management of family financial resources; emphasis on savings and investment planning. Study of the securities market, investment risk and return, features of fixed and variable investments including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, and other speculative investments and security valuation, performance measurement, and analysis. 2 Course ID: HACE 4205/ hours. Course Family Portfolio Management Course Focuses on the expansion and application of knowledge acquired in the course Family Savings and Investments. Emphasis on the investment planning process and issues facing financial planners who manage clients' assets. Students will evaluate client risk tolerance, investment objectives and time horizons, analyze asset managers' historic performances, and create portfolios using asset allocation models. Students will develop an Investment Policy Statement for a portfolio. They will construct, manage, valuate, and select securities for use in the portfolio. Course ID: HACE 4210/ hours. Course Family Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits Course Evaluation of retirement plans and employee benefits in the context of prescriptive financial planning decisions. Discussion of a more advanced concept of time value of money, risk tolerance, life expectancy, social security, retirement plans, tax implications of retirement plans, and health insurance. Course ID: HACE 4220/ hours. Course Family Estate Planning Course Principles and practices of family estate planning for the professional financial planner. Methods of property transfer at death, estate planning documents, family and charitable gifting strategies and gift taxation, incapacity planning, and calculation, deferral, and minimization of estate and gift taxes. Course ID: HACE 4230/ hours. Course Family Tax Planning Course Introduces students to current tax laws, regulations, principles, and practices that affect families and individuals. The perspective of this course is planning; namely, how families as producers and investors can manage their tax liability through proper financial planning. Course ID: HACE 4235S. 3 hours. Repeatable for maximum 6 hours credit. 1 hours lecture and 4 hours lab per week. Course Applied Family Financial Planning Course An applied understanding of working in professional settings to help individuals from different backgrounds achieve personal financial goals. In semester-long service-learning projects of approximately 50 direct contact hours, students will either provide direct financial services or financial education, counseling, or coaching to low and moderate-income individuals. 3 Course ID: HACE 4250/ hours. Course Practice Management in Financial Planning Course The skills needed to create and sustain a profitable practice in financial planning. Topics pertain to issues facing professionals when they start their practices such as state licensures, regulatory environment, marketing professional practices, business networks, developing client bases, and effective and ethical marketing techniques for practice in financial planning. Course ID: HACE 5200/ hours. Course Family Financial Counseling Course Indicators, causes, and impact of family financial problems on the family's well-being. Topics covered include credit difficulties, repossessions, liens, garnishments, and bankruptcy. Course ID: HACE 5250/ hours. Course Family Financial Planning Course Advanced financial topics and development of a comprehensive financial plan. Regulation, certification, and legal and ethical requirements for financial planners. Course ID: HACE 5900/ hour. Course Professional Seminar and Internship Orientation Course Orientation to an internship experience. Course ID: HACE 5910/ hours. Repeatable for maximum 9 hours credit. Course Program Internship Course Supervised work experience in financial planning, housing, consumer economics, or consumer journalism. University of Georgia 3

Course Economic Development of the United States Course The United States' growth and transformation into an industrialized nation, exploring the contributions of diverse cultural groups. The rise of the corporation, slavery, government regulation, banking, transportation, the economic role of women and minorities, the Great Depression, and rapid post-world War II growth. Course ID: FINA hours. Course Financial Management Course The basic concepts and analytical tools of finance in both corporate finance and investments. Topics include risk and return, financial institutions, efficient markets, valuation theory, capital budgeting, portfolio theory, cost of capital, and international finance. Course ID: HACE hours. Course Introductory Consumer Economics Course Concepts underlying consumer economics. Emphasis is on the consumer in the marketplace; consumer choice; information search; consumer protection, including redress; and consumer affairs as a profession. Course ID: LEGL hours. Course Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business Course The legal and regulatory environment of business, emphasizing why legal duties are placed on the business community and how managers should appropriately respond to them. Covers legal institutions, constitutional law, common law, and public law. Course ID: MARK hours. Course Principles of Marketing Course Examination of the ways organizations satisfy consumer and organizational needs and wants for products and services. Emphasis is placed on how the elements of the marketing mix are used to provide customer satisfaction in the marketing of goods and services, both domestically and internationally. Course Introduction to Information Systems in Business Course Concepts related to leading information technology-enabled change in business, including fundamentals of information systems, business process improvement, business and data modeling, project management, and intensive spreadsheet utilization. Course ID: PSYC hours. Course Elementary Psychology Course The phenomena, laws, theories, and history of psychology. Topics include animal and human learning, motivation, perception, individual differences, social behavior, and biopsychology. Emphasis is on fundamental principles rather than on application. Students are given the opportunity to participate in ongoing research. Course ID: REAL hours. Course Real Estate Course Real estate law, markets, valuation, and finance. Course ID: RMIN hours. Course Employee Benefits Course Approaches to problems of employee security from the perspective of businesses. Topics include pensions, profit-sharing plans, 401(k) plans, group life and health plans, and flexible benefit programs. Course ID: RMIN hours. Course Life Insurance Course Individual life, health, and annuity contracts within a financial planning context. Course ID: COMM hours. Course Introduction to Interpersonal Communication Course Communication as it occurs in two-person and small group settings.
