Textmarke nicht definiert. 1 Scope of application (1) These entrance exam regulations regulate the procedure for the entrance exam that must be passed in order for candidates to be admitted to a graduate master s degree without an undergraduate degree. (2) The entrance exam regulations apply solely to master s degrees for which there is provision in the course regulations for candidates to be admitted by means of an entrance exam instead of a completed undergraduate degree. 2 Purpose of the entrance exam (1) The entrance exam serves to provide proof pursuant to Sec. 39 (3) HmbHG that the applicant s professional skills are equivalent to a completed undergraduate degree. The applicant should demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills in the following areas in particular: a) a basic knowledge and understanding of economics b) a scientific approach to work c) a discerning approach and good judgement. (2) Admission to the course as acquired by successfully completing the entrance exam applies only to the master s degree selected in the application for acceptance for the entrance exam. It applies for an unlimited period. (3) If the applicant changes course, another application for acceptance for the entrance exam must be submitted. In individual cases, it may be possible to check which exam results already obtained can be transferred from the entrance exam. 3 Acceptance criteria Acceptance for the entrance exam requires applicants to have completed professional training and meet the following criteria: a) at least six years professional experience with at least two years management experience that is sufficiently linked in terms of content to the course selected as 2
3 well as above-average qualifications and the knowledge and skills necessary for the course b) a letter of motivation in which the applicant outlines the motivation for choosing the course, objectives, personal background and the qualifying professional experience for the course and explains why these qualifications are equivalent to a completed undergraduate degree c) presentation of advanced and further training activities to date d) a declaration of which course the applicant would like to study and an affidavit stating whether the applicant has already definitively failed an initial course of studies at another third-level institution as well as e) a curriculum vitae. 4 Acceptance procedure (1) The application for acceptance for the entrance exam must be submitted to HSBA in writing. The application must include the documentary evidence of the acceptance criteria listed in 3. (2) The application for acceptance for the entrance exam will be refused if a) the acceptance criteria according to 3 are not met b) the application documents are incomplete c) the entrance exam has been definitively failed. (3) Points will be awarded for the assessment of the professional experience, the applicant s presentation of his/her motivation for choosing the course and the advanced and further training activities pursuant to 3 (Appendix 1). An applicant who obtains at least 30 points for the assessment of the professional experience, at least points for the motivation for choosing the course and at least 26 points for the advanced and further training activities and who has also provided all other documentary evidence will be accepted for the entrance exam after a consultative meeting. 5 Exams, exam weighting, examiners (1) The entrance exam comprises a) an assignment in which the applicant has four weeks to work on his/her own to complete a paper on a management topic chosen by HSBA. The assignment should have be at least 10 pages and no more than 15 pages long (text body) b) a half-hour oral exam to present and answer questions on the assignment c) a two-hour written exam to test the candidate s basic understanding of economics and his/her analytical skills, discerning approach and judgement. (2) A maximum of 100 points can be obtained in the entrance exam, with the assignment accounting for 40 points, the oral exam for 10 and the written exam for the remaining 50 points. (3) The exams will be inspected by HSBA professors or lecturers who have at least the same qualification awarded by the exam or an equivalent qualification. 6 Passing the entrance exam The entrance exam has been passed if the candidate obtains at least 50 points, 25 thereof in the written exam. 3
4 7 Repeat exams An entrance exam that has not been passed or is deemed to have been failed can be repeated once within one year. 8 Hardship clause If course applicants can credibly demonstrate that they are not in a position due to longerlasting or permanent physical disability to complete the exams in the manner specified, either in full or in part, the chairperson of the exam committee can allow them to complete the exams or equivalent exams in some other form within an extended period. It may be necessary to provide a doctor s note. 9 Announcement of the result of the entrance exam A certificate will be issued on passing the entrance exam. The date of the certificate is the date on which the last exam was completed. 10 Viewing the exam file Applicants can apply within a reasonable period to view the exam file up to three months after the exam results are announced. The application must be submitted to HSBA in writing. No photocopies or written copies can be made when viewing the exam file. 11 Appeals (1) Appeals against individual exam results must be submitted to HSBA in writing no later than one month after the announcement of the results of the entrance exam. (2) The appeals committee will decide on appeals lodged. 12 Feminine form of descriptions of functions For the descriptions of functions used in these entrance exam regulations, the feminine form must be used if the function is carried out by a woman.* 13 Entry into force These entrance exam regulations enter into force on 1 November * * * * 4

In-depth specialist knowledge in at least one area can also be assumed (B) Max. 42 Min. 30 International experience, professional experience abroad and/or experience in project management The criterion involves independent problem solving and applying knowledge and understanding to one s own activities (C) and exchanging ideas, problems and solutions as well as taking on responsibility (E). Letter of motivation Plausible assessment and forecast of personal objectives and prospects The criterion involves the ability to apply knowledge and understanding to one s profession and problem-solving skills (C) as well as the ability to present written arguments independently (D) 10 Plausible presentation of the congruence between professional development and the content of the course selected The criterion also involves developing arguments, problem-solving skills (C), assessing information (D) and formulating and defending arguments, in particular in relation to the course of studies 10 Max. 20 Min.
