11 Veiligheid Chicago: Smart Surveillance uses cameras monitored by software capable of behavioral analysis, license plate - and facial recognition. The system can search thru 1000 s of hours of video in matter of minutes. NYPD: Crime Information Warehouse gives officers mobile access to more than 120 million criminal complaints, arrests and 911 records, as well as 5 million criminal records, parole files and photographs resulting in a 27% reduction in crime. 11

14 Smarter grids and utilities In Amsterdam, 500 households will participate in a pilot program of IBM and Nuon for smart meters in that city. Citizens, governments and companies are working together to make more efficient use of energy, water and mobility to create a more sustainable city. Malta is building a nationwide smart grid and a fully integrated electricity and watersystem. This system, 250,000 interactive meters, will be able to identify water leaks and electricity losses in the grid, allowing the utilities to more intelligently plan their investments in the network and reduce inefficiency. 14 IBM Confidential

SMART IS Toegang tot research data omzetten in verbetering in cure en care BioGrid Australia: Melbourne Health created a research initiative and virtual repository of roughly 25 million medical records for users from various hospital systems. The crossorganization initiative has yielded greater insight from research studies by expanding average sample size and equipping physicians with complex analysis tools that help them choose more effective treatment plans for patients. 15
