1 This regulation applies to students at Plymouth University sites of delivery and in all UK and international partnerships unless exceptions to regulations have been formally approved. Plymouth University Powers, Portfolio of Current Awards and Approval of New Awards 1. POWERS The University has, inter alia, the following powers: (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) (g) (h) to approve and review under such conditions as the institution may from time to time determine, programmes of study or programmes of supervised research pursued by candidates to qualify for the institution's academic awards and distinctions both in the University and in its partner institutions; to grant Degrees, Diplomas, Certificates and other academic awards and distinctions to persons who have pursued programmes of study or programmes of supervised research approved by the institution and who have passed such examinations or other assessments as may from time to time be required by the University; to accept in partial fulfilment of the study and assessment requirements for the awards of the institution such periods of learning and such assessments as may be recognised by the University and have been successfully completed and passed by students otherwise than on programmes of study approved under a) and b). to determine the terms and conditions for the granting of such academic awards and distinctions; to grant, subject to such conditions as the University shall from time to time determine, Honorary Degrees and distinctions to and on persons selected by the institution; to grant any of its awards posthumously to rescind an award or distinction made by the University if the University considers there to be due cause. to withdraw approval for a programme of studies or an award following appropriate consultation and notice. The Portfolio of Current Awards and Descriptions of Awards are shown in Annex 1 and details about the Approval of New Awards are given in Annex 2. 2 PORTFOLIO OF AWARDS ANNEX 1 The following awards are currently granted by the University: Certificate Certificate with Distinction Aegrotat Certificate Certificate in Personal and Professional Development (60 credits at Level 4) awarded in the context of a broader, employer sponsored programme) Certificate of Professional Development (Major Study) an award which reflects CPD activity across a range of areas. The award comprises 60 credits at any level, but programme developers would need to consider carefully whether and if so how the CPD certificate might articulate with other programmes Certificate of Professional Studies in Education (CPSE) Certificate of Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE) Certificate of Higher Education with Distinction Aegrotat Certificate of Higher Education Certificate in Education (CertEd) Diploma Diploma with Distinction Aegrotat Diploma Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) Diploma of Higher Education with Distinction Aegrotat Diploma of Higher Education Diploma in Professional Studies (DPS) Diploma in Professional Studies with Distinction Higher National Certificate ) Both awards granted under licence Higher National Diploma ) from Edexcel Foundation Degree (FdA, FdSc) Foundation Degree with Distinction Aegrotat Foundation Degree The awards of Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Education (BEd), Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Bachelor of Music (BMus) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) may be offered as Unclassified Bachelor's Degrees or with Honours:

7 ANNEX 2 1. APPROVAL OF NEW AWARDS APPROVAL OF NEW AWARDS The Academic Board will, from time to time, consider and approve proposals for new awards to be added to the existing portfolio of awards. Proposals for new awards will be considered initially by the appropriate Faculty Board before being submitted to the University Teaching, Learning and Quality Committee. The Committee will consider proposals in the context of the University's portfolio of awards and their relationship to each other and to the awards of other bodies. In particular the Committee will consider: (a) (b) (c) the characteristics and level of the proposed award that would both distinguish it from existing awards and relate it to them; the suitability of existing awards for the proposed programme(s) of study; the likely demand for, and recognition of, the proposed award by institutions, students, employers and professional bodies. The Committee will recommend to the Academic Board that a proposal for a new award be approved (or otherwise).
