1 Client Travel to / from Drug and Alcohol / Solvent Treatment Programs Non-Insured Health Benefits () Atlantic Region s Guidelines This document outlines the process for transportation requests to a Treatment Program. Any questions regarding Treatment Centres or the referral process will need to be directed to Mental Wellness. In accordance with the Medical Transportation Framework Policy 2005 (Section 7 and 12): Travel will be funded to the closest appropriate National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP) funded/referred facility in the home province only. Exceptions are made to travel outside the province only when the required treatment is not available in the home province or when a neighbouring province's treatment centre is the closest centre Transportation to return the client to the community will not be provided for clients who discharge themselves from treatment, against advice from the treatment centre counsellor, before completing the program. Clients under the age of majority are exempt from this policy Treatment that is court ordered is not considered for medical transportation benefits by. If a client is on probation but the treatment is not court ordered, please check to ensure the client is permitted to attend a treatment program outside of the province before submitting the travel request to. STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN SUBMITTING A REQUEST TO TRAVEL TO/FROM A TREATMENT PROGRAM: In order to allow sufficient time for and Mental Wellness to review and process the request, please fax the information no less than ten (10) business days prior to the start of the client=s treatment program. This will provide time to review the information and make the necessary travel, accommodations and meal arrangements. Mental Wellness will review the submitted information and inform whether travel arrangements should be made. If the request is submitted outside of this timeframe, the request may not be processed before the start of the treatment program.

2 STEPS TO FOLLOW 1. The and the client will discuss what type of treatment is best suited to the client s needs, the location of the treatment centre and procedures/policies of the treatment centre. The TREATMENT CENTRE REFERRAL FORM must be completed and include all relevant information relating to the treatment request. Be sure to include the client s name, date of birth, status number, escort s name and status number if the client is a minor. This information along with a copy of the letter of acceptance from the treatment centre must be faxed to the Regional Office at will prepare the treatment request for Mental Wellness to review. Out of region requests and requests to attend Charles J. Andrew are reviewed by Mental Wellness. All other requests are processed by. Once the flights have been booked, will fax the the flight itinerary Acceptance of Air Travel Itinerary for Treatment Travel Form for each traveller 7. The must review the information with all travellers. If the arrangements are suitable, the travellers are asked to sign the Air Travel Itinerary for Treatment Travel Form. If the arrangements are unsuitable please contact. 8. The faxes the signed Air Travel Itinerary for Treatment Travel Form(s) to no less than 48 hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time. If has not received the signed form and is unable to reach the REFERRAL worker, will cancel any arrangements 48 hours prior to the first outbound flight. 9. Once the Acceptance of Air Travel Itinerary for Treatment Travel Form(s) has been received in, any remaining arrangements will be made (ground transportation, accommodations, and meals). Depending on the client=s origin and destination: overnight accommodations may be required. If possible, will arrange for the accommodations. The travellers should bring cash as they may have to cover the costs of meals, taxi, etc. This will be outlined in the detailed treatment travel itinerary. In this case, the client must keep all original receipts and submit a reimbursement claim to after the fact. 10. Once all arrangements have been made, will fax the the flight itinerary and a detailed treatment travel itinerary explaining the travel plan (accommodations, ground transportation, meals, relevant phone numbers, etc.). 11.
