5 Diversity The law school also hosts a variety of minority speakers to discuss diversity issues in the legal community. AZSummitLaw participates in the ABA Judicial Internship Opportunity Program, which places diverse students into summer judicial clerkships. AZSummitLaw also participates in the Arizona Diversity Writing Program which places minority law students in 15 of the largest firms in the Phoenix area. AZSummitLaw also supports a variety of minority student organizations. Pro Bono A central part of Arizona Summit Law School's mission is to prepare its students to become practitioners who recognize the value of serving the undeserved. The American Bar Association and State Bar organizations also encourage volunteer public service for licensed attorneys. Consistent with this practice-wide view of public service, AZSummitLaw has adopted a policy that all students enrolling as of Spring 2008 must complete at least 30 hours of pro bono service during their tenure at AZSummitLaw. Students may satisfy this requirement through law and/or non-law activities that serve the purpose set forth in the Preamble of the Student Handbook. AZSummitLaw does not require advance approval of a service-related activity; the student is required to certify that they have completed their hours by submitting a Student Pro Bono Time Sheet after the completion of each activity. Students exceeding 50 hours of pro bono service receive a special Community Service Certificate and recognition at graduation. AZSummitLaw has formed partnerships with several outside organizations in which students can volunteer to assist with satisfying their pro bono graduation requirement. Additionally, the school maintains a list of community service activities and programs as a resource for students, and the Dean of Student will work with students to help identify specific pro bono activities. AZSummitLaw also hosts a Fall Pro Bono Fair on campus, which brings together students and pro bono/community service organizations and provides an opportunity for students to find avenues for pro bono service. AZSummitLaw also sponsors a Day of Service each spring where students, faculty, and staff perform pro bono/volunteer activities through the community. JOURNALS NO. OF STUDENTS GRADES WRITE-ON INTV.
