Responsible to: Education Manager Primary Objectives: Authorised By: To provide education and support to all clinical nursing staff in a practical and applied manner. This will include the advancement of educational practices that encompass planning, implementation & evaluation of education programmes in response to the organisational needs. PERFORMANCE MONITORING: An initial review of performance will be undertaken within three months and then formally reviewed every 12 months based upon this position description. PERFORMANCE REVIEW. NEXT PERFORMANCE REVIEW DATE. REVIEW OF POSITION S: This position description will be reviewed annually (June 30 each year), when the position becomes vacant or as deemed necessary..

TECHNICAL SKILLS & APPLICATION. Demonstrated knowledge and application of the skills required for this position. This includes knowledge and understanding of appropriate equipment, legislation, policies and procedures. 5. TEAMWORK & COMMUNICATION Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a diverse team or participate as an active member of a team, consistent with the philosophy and policies of the Organisation. 6. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT Commitment to ensuring quality services are delivered to both internal & external clients through continuous improvement activities. QUALIFICATIONS: E s s e n t i a l : D e s i r a b l e : A Registered Nurse Div 1 holding a current Registration Certificate as required by the Nurses Board of Victoria. A relevant post basic/tertiary qualification. Broad range of clinical experience Qualifications in Education and/or Workplace Training S a l a r y / C o n d i t i o n s : A w a r d / A g r e e m e n t In accordance with the Nurses (Victorian Health Services) Award 1992 & Policies. Positively promote the organisation both internally & externally. Provide prompt and courteous service to all clients; including colleagues, other departments and the community. Maintain confidentiality on all issues relating to the organisation, the clients & fellow colleagues. Failure to observe this requirement may be regarded as misconduct warranting termination and incur liability to penalty pursuant to Section 141 of the Health Services Act Treat all clients with respect & equality, whilst being responsive to their needs. Maintain a professional and pleasing telephone manner and be responsive to telephone inquiries. Dress and personal presentation to reflect the organisations standards and regulations at all times. Ensure that all managers are consulted regarding education of staff. Maintain good public relations with client s relatives, neighbours, friends and the community. Actively participate in clinical and administrative discussions Ensure that all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner. Assist in the development of educational needs analysis and annual business plan Forward records of in-service attendance and competencies to Education Manager Inform Education Manager of competencies completed on a monthly basis Forward attendance records for in-service sessions to payroll officer Relieve the Education Manager for leave Prepare, develop and implement clinical competencies which are evidence based and incorporate management of risk where required Store organisational files on the main computer server in a structured and coordinated manner.

Provide bedside clinical support, instruction and supervision to nursing staff Encourage an active learning environment in which competencies are maintained and improved consistent with current nursing knowledge and research Actively support Graduate Nurses, working closely with them in the clinical area Liaise with NUM s regarding Graduate Nurse Program participants and other nursing staff progress Assist with the orientation to clinical areas including use of equipment and technology Design a 12-month education program with topic allocation effective for all members of staff Design education sessions for each month relevant to specific classifications of staff based on current educational needs Co-ordinate and organise speakers for the various education sessions and conduct sessions accordingly as the nurse educator Co-ordinate the distribution of the program activities to appropriate staff each month Design & utilize assessment tools to assess existing clinical skills of the nursing staff Establish, promote & evaluate nursing practice in accordance with evidence, current literature and legislation Develop, implement & evaluate education competencies e.g. / Advanced Life Support Competency, Epidural Management, GNP Core Competencies Demonstrate a sound knowledge of and ensure work practices are in line with the Hospital s Infection control, Confidentiality & Occupational Health & Safety policies and regulations Demonstrate advanced practice clinical skills Utilise adult learning principles and teaching styles which are appropriate for the various levels of staff throughout the organisation Conduct clinical assessments and ensure compliance with mandatory competency requirements. Be aware of, and practice according to, the organisation s mission, objectives, core values and strategies Demonstrate the ability to work positively within a team to achieve team goals Work harmoniously with other team members to achieve service delivery excellence & form a cohesive healthcare team Regularly attend staff meetings to participate in policy development Resolve any workplace conflict in a professional manner and through the correct organisational processes Maintain and initiate regular and professional communication with all relevant colleagues and managers. Participate in the recruitment & selection of participants for education programmes Provide leadership and promote & support ongoing professional development of individual staff members Act as a role model for professionalism in nursing and promote a positive culture in the workplace.
