1 Academic Strategic and Assessment Plan (ASAP) Department: Nursing Academic Year: TWC Strategic Plan 2000/Curriculum Goals 1. Ensure quality by creating an organizational structure which enhances academic programs. 2. Develop programs which are consistent with our stated purpose and which are consistent with the resources of the institution. 3. Ensure quality in existing programs by introducing concepts of internationalization in the curriculum. Mission of the Department: The mission of Tennessee Wesleyan College Fort Sanders Nursing department is to prepare professional nurses for lives of significance, leadership and service through quality baccalaureate nursing education within the Christian tradition. Department Goal 1: Prepare graduates for entry into nursing profession in congruence with the mission of TWC and TWC- FSN Plan for Assessing the Learning Outcome 1. Develop plan for integration of service learning (SL) into nursing curriculum Collaborate with TWC SL Director and VP of Academic Affairs to identify strategies/resources for effective implementation. Collaborated with SL Director who came to Knoxville campus to speak to faculty and students about SL. SL integrated into two (2) junior courses: NU 412 (Pediatrics) and NU 300 (Foundations).

2 Assess current curriculum to determine designated SL courses. Identify current student/faculty activities that support SL philosophy (mission trips, RAM, flushot clinics, service projects). Faculty determined appropriate courses to pilot SL during Curriculum meeting. Consulted with SL director as to appropriate activities that would satisfy SL objectives. Students participated in Influenza vaccination administration; Health education in Secondary schools; participated in fund raisers; & will conduct a health fair in the spring of Department Goal 2: Maintain/increase resources to meet program needs and improve program quality Plan for Assessing the Learning Outcome 1. Obtain funding for online nursing education opportunities/certification (RN to BSN curriculum, school health nurse certification, MSN Collaborate with TWC-IT department regarding online resources. Investigate available certification requirements/resources. Collaborated with IT as to recourses necessary to conduct on-line curriculum. Submitted documentation to SACS for curricular modality change. Implemented initial on-line RN to BSN curriculum on 07/2012. SACS approval received 07/ Continue to address technology needs of 3. Faculty requested funds to support faculty development Foundation funds utilized to purchase ipads and Nursing Central software. Expected delivery date for ipads - Fall 2012 semester. VP of Academic Affairs secured funds to provide partial tuition reimbursement for three (3) faculty in doctoral

3 (grants). Outside finding sources explored programs. Faculty will receive at least $800 (per fiscal year) for professional development. Faculty will receive $200 each towards their TNA (Tennessee Nursing Association) dues for Continuing to explore grants to fund professional development and technological development. Department Goal 3: Meet identified needs/expectations of the communities of interest in providing a quality nursing education Plan for Assessing the Learning Outcome 1. Determine program satisfaction and achievement of department objectives through feedback from surveys to communities of interest. Analyze data from clinical agencies, Board of Visitors, students, alumni Clinical agency surveys collected; analysis completed. Faculty continue to be involved in Sigma Theta Tau activities and governance. Three (3) faculty pursuing doctoral degrees in Nursing. All nursing faculty are being encouraged to pursue certification as a Nurse Educator (CNE) Three (3) faculty pursing doctoral degrees, one (1) additional faculty considering doctoral pursuit.
