5 1 COMPARISON OF PROPOSALS The following table summarizes the proposals 1. Broadcast for Idle MSs by QC, Samsung, SKT. Broadcast by CCSA, RITT, ZTE, Nortel, Nokia. Sharing FL Traffic Channel by Lucent 4. Forward Multicast Fundamental Channel by QC 5. Forward Multicast Fundamental Channel by Via Discovery of service Broadcast System Parameters Message on F- PCH/F-BCCH Broadcast System Parameters Message on F-PCH/F-BCCH Not specified. Could be through applications Not specified. Could be through applications Not specified. 6 Channel Configuration: FL F-BSCH (shared), with attributes identical to F- SCH, plus optional outer coding using Reed Solomon code F-BSCH (shared) and per-ms F-FCH or F- DCCH. Power control commands from BS are punctured onto F-FCH or F-DCCH. Outer coding on F- BSCH possible F-FCH and optionally F-SCH (both shared among all MS in sector), F-DCCH (shared among some or all MSs in sector), F- CPCCH (Each MS s Forward Power Control Subchannel is a TDM ed sub-stream) F-MFCH (Multicast Fundamental Channel, shared among all MS in sector), F-DCCH (shared among some or all MSs in sector), F-CPCCH (Each MS s Forward Power Control Subchannel is a TDM ed substream). Sharing an F-MSCH possible F-MFCH (Multicast Fundamental Channel, shared among all MS in sector), F-SDCCH (shared among some or all MSs in sector), F-CPCCH (Each MS s Forward Power Control Subchannel is a TDM ed substream). Sharing an F-MSCH possible Channel Configuration: RL None (MS goes to R-ACH or R- EACH for registration and access) R-DCCH or R-FCH R-DCCH or R-FCH R-FCH without continuous transmission requirement. R- DCCH possible Same as 4. Active Set Not defined by standard (MS chooses autonomously) BS assigned. F- BSCH can be from a subset of the Active Set of the F-FCH/F- DCCH One Active Set for F- FCH, F-DCCH, and F- CPCCH. Possibly subset for F-SCH One Active Set for F-MFCH, F-DCCH, and F-CPCCH Same as 4.
7 Soft Handoff FL only. Based on neighboring sector information carried on the overhead channels, MS can autonomously add FL legs. No PSMM or BS involvement Similar to existing procedure (Pilot Strength Measurement Message, Handoff Direction Message, Handoff Completion Message, etc.) Similar to existing procedure (Pilot Strength Measurement Message, Handoff Direction Message, Handoff Completion Message, etc.) Similar to existing procedure (Pilot Strength Measurement Message, Handoff Direction Message, Handoff Completion Message, etc.) Same as 4. FL Power Control None (no MS feedback) MS feedback (Reverse Power Control Subchannel punctured on the Reverse Pilot Channel) as in the various forward power control modes (FPC_MODE) Not specified. Could be similar to. Split feedback from the MS about F- MFCH and F- DCCH/F-CPCCH independently, as in FPC_MODE 001 or 010 Same as 4. RL Power Control N/A. No RL transmission in general BS commands punctured on the per-ms F-DCCH/F- FCH BS commands sent on the F-CPCCH BS commands sent on the F-CPCCH BS commands sent on the F-CPCCH
8 Support of many MSs per sector Very high capacity, limited by paging capacity of the sector Relatively low capacity. Up to the Walsh code limitation (from the per-ms F- FCH/F-DCCH required), FL power limitation (by the total of F-BSCH and per-ms F-FCH/F- DCCH), and RL interference limitation (per MS R- PICH and R- DCCH/R-FCH) Medium capacity.
