November 20, 2014 Volume 9, Issue 7 We're Baaaack That's right, Emily's Wire is back for a fourth consecutive week. The news just keeps happening so we'll just keep reporting it. We're taking off next week for Thanksgiving. Got football to watch and turkey to eat, ya know. Reminder: COE is Here on Monday Nov. 24 Representatives from the C ouncil on O ccupational E ducation will be on our campus on Monday, Nov. 24. If you haven't already done so, please visit the mailroom and get a framed mission statement to post in your classroom and/or office. Teamwork is an important part of our accreditation efforts; let's let 'em know we're all on the EGTC team. Welcome to Cafe 14er Emily's Cafe on the 14th floor now has an official name: Cafe 14er. Congratulations to Debbi Grieve and her winning name. Debbi will now be Jeff Barratt's guest for lunch at Cafe 14er, and also get a gift card from Jeff for use at Emily's Coffee. That makes Debbi a winner from the ground floor all the way to the top floor. Congratulations! Ready...Set...Shop Don't feel like braving the crowds at the mall? Cyber Monday not your thing? We're got you covered. Emily's Gift Cards are arriving soon. You can buy 'em where you use 'em: Emily's Cafe, Emily's Coffee, Emily's Salon, Emily's Spa, The Barber Shop, and Cafe 14er. The gift cards are rechargeable, so if you do this right you may never have to shop again. Don't just gift your loved ones this year card 'em.
Giving Thanks This week, EGTC students in the ESL program took time to reflect on what they are most thankful for. Visit the fourth floor to see how your thoughts of gratitude this Thanksgiving season may relate to individuals from other countries. Reading these notes of appreciation, you may also get a new perspective on the meaning of Thanksgiving. Throughout the halls you can read some touching stories and also gain an idea of the dramatic advancement students go through from level one to levels four and five. These notes of appreciation will be up in the halls of the fourth floor through Thanksgiving. To view photos, please visit EmilyGriffith.edu to see "Thanksgiving in Their Own Words." Collecting Winter Gear for Refugee Students Can you imagine coming from a life in the tropics and facing 3 degree weather at the bus stop? This is a reality for many of our newly arrived refugees and the resettlement agencies report that Coats 4 Colorado is running short this year. Kate Goodspeed in Room 425 is collecting gently used hats, mittens, gloves, heavy socks, and coats to give to new adult refugee arrivals. "I have already given out 200 scarves from Women 4 Women Knitting 4 Peace along with about 50 coats from my church friends," Kate reports. Please don't contribute summer clothing, underwear, or things that are more than gently used. If the door to 425 is locked, you can temporarily leave clothing in the ESL office. 'Tis the season of warmth and giving; here's your chance to give a little warmth. Thank you!
You Oughta Be In Pictures Got pictures of yourself during the holidays? Do you own an ugly sweater? How about pictures of you wearing an ugly sweater? Read on and learn how these items can lead to fame and food at this year's holiday luncheon

We are in the process of finalizing configurations in the new system and will perform a first data conversion pass at the end of December. Our Jenzabar trainers will be back in January to help us validate our data and begin administrative training on the new system. We are looking forward to a June 2015 launch! Please stay tuned for more updates and Ashley at ashley.pendergrass@emilygriffith.edu with any questions, comments, or suggestions!
Get Ready to CollaboRATE Got an opinion? Of course you do. Get ready to share. Beginning Dec. 1, you'll have a chance to provide feedback to EGTC about your leader's and your team's strengths and areas for improvement. Sharing your opinion is the first step toward making a difference. Watch for an with instructions for accessing the CollaboRATE survey. This just in: When the arrives, take note of the attached video. The interview of Tom Boasburg was shot by two students in Shawn Montano's Video Production and Editing Program. Thanks to Shawn and his students for adding an EGTC touch to a DPS system wide effort! Sewing Program Winding Down Due to various factors and after careful consideration, we have made the very difficult decision to close the Professional Sewing & Fashion Program. Students who are currently actively enrolled in courses within the program will finish their program through a teach out, but we will not be accepting any new or returning students into the program. In order to continue to meet demand for sewing skills we will begin offering individual courses through our Continuing Education program. We will communicate more as details are confirmed. Trivia In what year did Thanksgiving become an official federal holiday? Answer to last week's trivia: The 1968 movie "The Odd Couple" starred Jack Lemmon as Felix Ungar and Walter Matthau as Oscar Madison.
